    VAC Beta Modules Test

Eric Smith sent this update along the HLDS mailing list concerning the beta testing of new Valve Anti-Cheat modules. According to the email, server admins wishing to participate in the test will find that these beta modules detects all OGC versions and reports them to the Valve ban list, at least for the duration of the test. Click through for the full email in all its glory.[break="click here for the full email"]
We're currently testing some beta security modules that catch all versions of OGC and will report detected cheaters to the ban list. We'll test the beta security modules over the weekend and release them next week if there are no problems.

If you'd like to help test the beta security modules, the information you need to know is listed below (the information below ONLY applies to servers that want to run the beta security modules).

    1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.

    2) Anyone detected cheating during this beta test *may* get banned for it, but only for the duration of the beta test. This means if you test a cheat on your server while running the beta modules, you might find yourself banned from your own server. At the end of the beta test, we'll most likely clear the bans that were collected before releasing the modules publicly.

    3) We're no longer using port 27013 for the ban list. You will now see traffic (in/out) on port 27011. This traffic is to/from the ban list server. Make sure you have this port open in your firewall.

    4) The password for the beta modules is "vactest", so make sure you have...

    -testmodule vactest

...in your command line and restart your server.

Let me know if you have any problems with these modules and we'll look into them right away. Thanks for helping out.

    -Eric
As mentioned in #2, the fabled Valve master ban list will be active during this test. Hopefully this means that the list will be activated for regular everday usage soon.

Will this add OGC-light users to the banlist too? That's not a cheat.

"Hopefully this means that the ban list we've all been waiting for will be activated within the next few weeks, or months"

      ... or years, or decades...

Aiboh, I just changed that sentence before I read your comment because I knew someone would gripe about it. Looks like I was too late :)

Does this put in that anti wallhack thing? I'm really tired of HLguard 1.07. I mean there's nothing quite as helpful as going catwalk as a T on dust2 and jumping to see up the stairs as you run by and all the CT's vanishing, or dropping down to shoot and the person vanishing for some reason. I love it.

anything with the word OGC in it couldn't hope to be considered anything but some sort of cheat fleko..... oh wait you're one of those morons that is still trying to justify cheating so it probably is just a cheat, nevermind.

and still, I cannot play, and have not been able to play for 2 months now because valve refuses to work with the WineX people to stop kicking linux clients. Not only can I not play a game I payed $30 for, but now I'm going to get perm-banned for even trying? wow, thanks a lot valve for protecting me from all those cheaters by not letting me play at all, I appriciate it. Can anyone guess who's not going to buy Sierra games anymore?

sierra had nothing to do with all that.
