rush but rush cleverly.. if u spawn at the back of ct spawn on dust say.. if u rush your likely to find about 5 ts ready to shoot your head off. where as if u spawn at the front then u can rush and catch the same 5 ts with their knives out :)
silence is golden.. no.. it is.....
when in the latter stages of a round don't take routes that require breaking windows or opening doors.Comment

My favorite tactic is in CS militia. it is when you climb up the ladder, and jam your self between the house and the rock and hold strafe and you can float there. (or drop easilyby tapping strafe) Anyways i love floating there with an AWP on the T team and just SNIPING AWAY BABY!!!!Comment

most of the time the cts have to go out to reach the bombsite so camping doesnt work too well.
and now for the best knifing tactics, by yours truly
rule #1: always go out by yourself; it is impossible to knife someone when ur teammate shoots everyone before u can slash them
rule #2: always attack from behind; this may seem obvious but i see ppl all the time rushing at me with a knife somehow expecting to kill me. KNIFING ONLY WORKS IF U HIT THEM AND THEY DONT HIT U
rule #3: always be unexpected; the worst thing for a knifer or any cs player is if the other team knows where you are and what weapon ur using
rule #4: NEVER back down once u give urself away; if u see that ur target has a buddy with him once u run up to him, running away will get u shot. just try to kill the first guy as fast as u can. there have been tons of circumstances where i knifed one guy while his teammate just stood and watched me, and then i picked up his gun and killed his teammate (or his teammate shot me as soon as i was finished)
rule #5: know how you are going to attack; knifing is very hard, and sometimes the difference between life and death is the line seperating ur 2 mouse buttons. always try to kill ur target as fast as u can, as most ppl will be stunned for a second and will try to shoot u after that. so know what attack u will be using (example: 3 regular slashes and a right click to finish him)
rule #6: practice; i learned to knife on iceworld, and then took it to every other map. you will find that if u dont knife constantly, you lose your abilities quickly, as knifing is a lot harder than normal cs
rule #7: dont be afraid to draw ur gun; if there is a guy 30 ft from u and u wanna knife him, but hes running away and doesnt see u (its happened to me) take out ur gun and shoot him, and by the time he stops and turns around u will be right next to him with ur knife in hand. also if u get shot at long distance running around with a knife wont keep u alive, so u will have to draw ur gun to stay alive
rule #8: dont draw your gun too often; ive followed ppl on iceworld for over 30 seconds and they never saw me. dont assume that they know where you are. if you find yourself in the position where u need a gun, that means you're doing something wrong
rule #9: camp intelligently; dont camp at your spawn and expect to get knife kills. what i usually do is rush as fast as i can and then camp, and allow the enemy to pass me. then i just knife them in the back. this works well on all maps, but it is essential that u are alone, because if the target feels like there is someone around he will come out of his "tunnel vision" and might see you hiding behind that crate
if i think of anything else ill post it
oh yeah
rule #10: try to kill isolated ppl; the best time for knifing is at the end of the round, when almost everyone is dead and the ppl that are alive are spread out.Comment

besides my mailbag entry ( :-D ), i think there are 3 basic things to always remember:
1)shoot to kill: don't shot to scare people, or to let them know you are coming...pick your target, and only shoot if you know you wil hit them, otherwise you'll just give yourself away
2)pick your battles: if you hear awpers and some gunshots one way, and you know that rushing out will most likely get you killed, don't rush out (duh), but don't slowly walk out or jump out or whatever...if there are too many people one way, and you can't handle them, then go another way...run away and live to see another day (or minute of the round)
3)get the drop: always, ALWAYS engage your target before he engages you...if he engages you first, and you return fire, unless your enemy is extremely bad, you will be killed. make sure you are always the one to start--and to end--the firefight
oh yea and:4)think of your next move: run for cover THEN shoot, don't shoot then run for cover...if you're moving up from one area to another, move up from box to box to box, don't just run straight up the middle (if someone spots you, you'll be down like that* /me snaps fingers*)
hmm, that's all that i can think of that hasn't been mentioned...Comment

ok, ok.. in all serious-ness, lets clear up this 'slicing the pie' thing.LuftWaffle wrote..
this article shows exactly what 'slicing the pie' is, although if you have a limited vocabulary like me and had to read it about 5 times, it's going to need some explanation:
Read this: Cutting corners
slicing the pie, in real-life or in games that aim for realism (r6, Rogue spear, America's army..) is a commonly used CQB tactic to quickly reveal what is on the other side of a doorway (or corner, or pretty much anything), all the while keeping your cross hair positioned so you can fire at a revealed enemy in a moments notice. this is how it is done-
approach the opening, and place your cross hair slightly inside the very edge of the corner (or frame of the doorway). now, sidestep and keep your cross hair in the same position relative to the corner (...or frame of the doorway) and you will find that you will always be aiming at the place where an enemy would be, should you spot one.
in counter-strike however, this is not a technique which can be used efficiently and effectively. in order to have enough control over your cross hair while slicing the pie, you would have to press the walk button. and... a slow sidestepping person + CQB + a fast-moving enemy w/ a ak/colt 2 feet away from you = bad.
however, a cs vet will find himself using a modified version of the slicing the pie tactic over and over again w/o even knowing it. imagine this: its been a few minutes into a round in de_dust and you are the only ct alive. you are running toward the ct spawn from just outside bomb site a, and all of a sudden 'the enemy has planted the bomb.' what do you do? run right around the corner and straight under the arch? oh no my friend, you back up as far from the arch as possible, and sidestep, keeping your view at the bomb site afar. you see an enemy under the arch, and since your cross hair is already on him, you dispatch of him quickly. you continue to sidestep and and see an enemy in the distance, ready to fire. of course, your cross hair is already on him, so u quickly crouch, and fire.
this is a modified version of 'slicing the pie' minus the 'cqb'. instead of being as close as possible to the corner, you try to be as far as possible from it, simply because you would get owned in cqb.

Can we stop talking about this? Honestly, if I had known a stupid joke was going to spark such a moronic debate I wouldn't have said it.
Mostly everyone here knows what it is. You're all saying basically the same thing (with the exception of a few), but for some reason you all KEEP POSTING ABOUT IT. This is turning into a forum.Comment

Cheap and lame. I like it.
...select which team you want to be on, but not the player model. Just leave it sitting there at the player model selection screen. This doesn't actually put you in the game as a living player, but you still take up a slot on the team, and gain money just as if you were playing. A few rounds later, join, and you've got all the money you need for several rounds at least!...laugh at this, but don't actually do it, you freaks!
Oh, and your attempts to "show your disapproval" of doing this aren't fooling anyone, you know. Judging from your detailed explanation, it's perfectly obvious you do it every chance you get, you big turkeystuffer you.Comment

Why not? I sure as hell do. It makes tons more sense than just jumping into the middle of an AK vs. M4 vs. AWP game with only a glock/usp, especially if you joined the losing team. Chances are that unless you luck out and get a weapon off someone, you're going to be just as useful with that pistol as you would be in "half-joined" limbo.

LOL! Wow, "turkeystuffer" heh.
Yes and no, actually... I have to admit, back when I was living in the dorms at college, my roommate and I would sometimes do this when we felt like getting dinner, and 10 minutes later we'd be back with food and maxed out on cash, lol. Anymore, though, my CS time is rather limited, so I'd rather be playing (even at a monetary disadvantage), than just sitting there. (Not to mention that you run the risk of being kicked for being idle.)
And now, it's time for another...
Random dirty tactic...
If it's down to you and one other person, and you're low on health, then type "let's knife fight!" into the game chat. When they reply enthusiastically, set up a meeting place to have it out, and go there with your knife out and your flashlight on. When they see you, begin the intricate dance that is the knife fight. Don't let them get to close, just let them chace you to a place where they've got nowhere to hide. Then pull out your M4 and shoot the hell out of them. Sure, you'll be called and asshole, and you'll actually be an asshole if you do this, but hey, it's titled "dirty" for a reason, eh?
Random quick tip...
Pull your pistol out instead of reloading your gun in the middle of a one-on-one firefight. Sure, this seems to make sense, but I can't recount all the times I've watched two people empty clips on each other, then run around in circles while they race to see who can reload the fastest. Just whip it out (your USP, that is) and finish them off while they reload.
(And no Para?noid, unlike the previous dirty tactic, I have never actually done this one... yet been the victim of it many times.) :)Comment
Actually dust bunnies refers to dust that collects into a ball-like form thus the coined phrase, dust bunnies.
