every round, teams should be reseeded instead of just straight bracketing. Sure, it may take a bit longer, but it will ensure that the better teams don't meet so early, as to ensure excellent teams a chance to prove themself when it really counts. Having top teams face early and one be eliminated is stupid on so many levels.

i'mgonnahave to respecfully disagree with this. having top teams face each other early on is one of the things that makes pro sports playoffs so interesting throughout all the stages. for prime example, look at the NHL, particularly in the late 80's. the two top teams back then were the Edmonton Oilers, and the Calgary Flames. it was no coincidence that for 6 years straight the oilers and flames alternated cups ( with the oilers typically owning). both teams were,and are,in the same division, which meant one of them was eliminated relatively quickly. this meant that fans could expect some great series very close to the beginning. now, admittedly, hockey playoffs take far longer than the CPL, but having top teams face each other early is still a positive. if nothing else, it forces the top clans to not take anything for granted in the early rounds, and ensures that they will play at their top level by making every victory count. so, i say stick with the original seedings, which if they are done right, make for exciting matches all the the way through.

i'll say. and further, on behalf of canadian rednecks everywhere (ok, alberta) i would like make clear the distinction between "redneck" and "yank". redneckism is now a pan-national movement, that is imho proudly supported wherever beef is a staple, where pickups are a religion ( with many sects) , where oil gushes cheaply, where belt buckles are massive, and where country western music is played in nightclubs by POPULAR request.



so please, next time you confuse redneck and american, please remember the canadian redneck. we may be an endangered species, but we have a good time ;-)

I am a huge NHL fan, and I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with your respectful disagreement. The thing about the NHL is that there are only 16 teams in the playoffs. The seeding in the NHL is pretty fair the first round, because it is (mostly) based on their records (division leaders nonwithstanding), and in the second round, teams ARE re-seeded. The best two teams from each conference play for the right to play for the Stanley Cup (arguably the hardest to win and by FAR most BEAUTIFUL trophy in all of sports)... the CPL championship is different because there are a TON of teams playing, and 2 losses knock them out, as opposed to 1. Re-seeding ensures that the best clans will go the farthest. Plus, there really isnt a way to seed the teams fairly as there would be with one unified league... maybe if we took CAL-I and CAL-I-Europe and used those standings as sort of a East/West conference... the only way I could think of to make these events fair is to A) Do brackets with re-seeding every round, and have the seedings be based in stats somehow, and B) Have each clan pick a map that they designate their 'home' map (like baseball parks [all have small differences, even though theyre basically the same field... the other option is to play ONE map so everyone has equal opportunity to have their very best strats]... only with say, 6 official maps to choose from) and whichever team has the seeding advantage gets to play on their home map, with the finals being first map loser's bracket home and 2nd map winner's bracket home.



oh, and all not doing re-seeding does is introduce more luck into the tournament, and luck is bad.

how are things reseeded in second round of NHL playoffs? the enitre bracket is laid out at the begining, and each team knows who they play next, or rather which two teams they possibly could play next. i agree taht seeding for this can be difficult due to the sheer volume of teams. and the conference thing is agood idea, i think, and one that i've tought ouf before. now, some people are going to say that you can't split them up by continent, because that means that if, for example, europe had all the best teams it wold be unfair. well, in that case i say tough titties. to once again use teh NHL analogy (guess where i'm from ;-) for the last number of years the Western Conference has had, on average, better teams than the east. yet the Western champs haven't always won the cup. so maybe CPL should change to a europe/north america scheme. i'm just throwing that out there. and don't start saying "if that happens, europe will alwasy own" or vice versa, because honestl, stfu. anything can happen in a game, as this tournament showed. once again, just throwing some stuff out there, although i am sure for not the first time. if you think i am a total retard, please don't tell me in expilicit, asinine language. i have low self-esteem, and my therapist says i can't handle that ;-) but feel free to offer a substantial response.



now some may say that this is an incoherent, somewhat confused post. and yo know what? some are right,but based on what i've seen here, on average, it will fit right in.

It's been a good CPL although this is actually the first one I've taken any notice of but thats only because I've had nothing else to do this past week.



My local team Infinity eSports have really impressed me. I caught the second half of the IeS v GoL match and it was amazing even if they did lose in the end.

The only sport I regularly followed previous to developing an interest to the CPL was basketball here in America (which, at the present time, seems to be much more dominated by America than say, CS is, heh). With this in mind, I'm used to the championship playoffs taking place over the course of 7 games, 4 to win it all. Seeing as each game lasts roughly an hour or so of playtime... that equated sometimes to as much as 7 hours of nail-biting excitement, wondering who would pull ahead.



With the CPL, granted, people can't play CS full-time, so it makes sense that there's going to be less sheer volume of games played and such. But somehow, while the final matches between SK and GoL were awesome, I was left feeling like playoffs between teams were just too sudden... no room for a team to have a bad night, really... demands absolute consistancy, something which a team with more overall skill may not always have. I guess I'm just not used to a favorite team going from being a definite contender to being completely out of the competition in half an hour.



As far as reseeding, yeah, I won't try to design the perfect system for it, but I do believe that the rankings should accurately reflect who the best teams really were, not having a potential 2nd or 3rd place team getting knocked completely out of running by the best team before they had a chance to defeat teams that end up placing higher than them. Seems like that's what they'd want to do, anyway.



Well, it's been great, thanks again Sublyme for the fantastic job you've done covering the CPL this summer! I for one really enjoyed it. Congrats SK and all you crazy Swedish folk. :)

Yeah, no kidding. What happened there? (Although Sublyme's noted that they probably didn't have 100% ready experience playing the de_clan_mill map). But they knew about it for a while now, they should have been preparing for it.



mTw really messed up my predictions. I emailed a list of my top 5 predictions before the tournament started to my CS buddies, and I nailed #1, #3, and #5 dead on. mTw was not in there at #2. *sigh*

Hee hee :). I'm bored, and I'm a software engineer, and I just had some coffee. So don't take this personally. According to your code above, every flame is atypical. You should use == (double equals sign) for equality checks. A single = sign is an assignment, and since you're always setting equal to 1, your if() statements become: if(1). So both checks will go off, with the final check taking precedence over flame's value.
