I would not go as high as 3 strikes. This is like saying you get 3 tries to beat the system. I think you should get 1 strike with a large warning that your ID has been placed on a hotlist and an explanation of what was found. Giving you the chance to clean up your game. If You get caught one more time, perm ban list. This limits the cat and mouse game and allows someone to clean up their act. However, if there is ever a glitch in the system and the system bans outright even if there really is not a cheat, then that could be another world of troubles. I don't remember exactly (the names), but didn't people get kicked by one anticheat who were running another anticheat in the background. These are situations that can only be known as they occur.

rizzuh is right, most of the people (if not all of them) that are complaining about a central ban lists are giving little "what ifs" and "maybes". No one will "hack" into the central database, if someone bought a copy of hl or cs retail and got a "cd key in use" error then that means that someone generated a key that just so happened to work on won and was also a key that packed with a boxed copy, good for them, does it happen often? no, in fact have any claims been made with proof that this happens, no.



Most cheaters that have multiple cd keys trade for them, that means that the majority of people using a stolen key are cheaters (also because a regular player would never have need for more than one...). I don't care if a cheater has 2 keys or 2 thousand, I'm willing to put money that if anyone complains about getting a perminate ban because of a stolen cd, then they're a well informed cheater who's trying to work the system



Steam is still in testing now, I use a cable modem and I notice no difference in the connect times, not that I care if steam takes 30 seconds or even 2 minutes longer to connect, as long as that means I a) don't have to worry about cheaters as much, b) don't have to worry about some sucker who's mom won't pay for cable or dsl lagging me out.



The fact is that if you compare the ammount of cheaters 1 year ago to now, the number is dramaticly reduced, and those that still cheat can only sometimes use wallhack (if the server admin is so stupid as to not run hlg). So people can bitch and moan all they want to, but the efforts valve has made have been effective, and they have restored my faith as well as the faith of many others that valve is not only willing but capable of killing off the majority of average joe cheaters.

If a security fault does happen, however, they could always revert the past x hours or remove bans from a specific origin, etc. I'm sure VALVe knows what they're doing.

what i'm talking about is writing a program that, to the Valve ban database, looks and behaves exactly like a real server. see in this case it's in the interest of the user (the hacker) to run software that is "hacked".

i'd prefer if they logged as much info about the cheater as possible and let the admins do the banning.

I don't care if you spoof your IP or do anything else, your host is still encoding inside. You ban the persons won and and ip then check back. If the same source comes up with a different IP and wonid a few times, you ban the whole area. Some innocents might get banned. Big deal the majority of the dumbass hackers are gone.

I've seen this happen before, and it's simple to resolve. Valve is great about fixing such problems. All you have to do is send them a photocopy of your cd-key stuff from when you bought the game, and ask for your old WonID to be discontinued and a new one generated and given to you. Boom, you're back in business. But, if you're already banned, well, tough luck. Should have been more careful with your key, end of story.



Cheating, or attempts at it, will go on, but face it, the cheating community was effectively smashed after their short hayday. Most of us aren't worried if there's a few dozen people who manage to hack for a few days now and then. The days where the mass of newbies could easily download cheats without fear of retribution are gone, and back are the days where cheaters are cautious, fearful, careful people.



To the cheaters... well, sucks to be you. Might be a good time to reform, eh?

Bad origins, and bad hands. I dont mean theyre bad because theyre not CZ, (well, that too) but they look messed up in game. The ejector is too big also.

- 1 for the stupid arms (I like 'plain' arms but those look like David Dickinson's judging by the flesh tone)

- 2 for the most boring, uninspired animations in the world

- 1 for the worst draw animation in the world (it's so bad it deserves it's own minus point)

- 1 for poly waste (3028 polies? It barely looks more then half that... could be because of the 'old skool' skinning style of the textures)



I love the MP5k and MP5k-style weapons. I like that short, compact, can-probably-hold-four-in-each-hand type look on any non-pistol and non-sniper rifle. But this is taking the piss. One of the worst models I've ever seen.
