Honestly, i think CS is dying. Do u all notice that when game developers are in desperation to continue some games' longevity, they try to release an expansion first, then to the climax of publishing retros, or classics of a game? This is where CS is coming to now. ...

Finally, I wanted to say sorry for posting previous stupid and useless comments, but I am serious here. Maybe this long comment I have typewritten may not relate much to CSC, but...why don't you guys come up an idea how to continue the CS legacy with honour? I want to pinpoint your mistakes:1) CS 1.X upgrades are quite useless these days, revise back on what are the 'right things' to put in. 2)CS:CZ will indirectly shorten the CS legacy year span, do something with these.

I hope you take your time to read this, It may give you some points and it may not. But, I tried my best to voice out my comments. After all, what are message boards for?
I don't think retro gaming signals the impending death of CS, I see every CS beta as a seperate game to a point - so in a way a CS has died with every version and people would naturally want to try and play their 'dead' games. Personally my memories of b4 or b5.2 are left as they are, I'm not going to try to relive them because, tho my memories are fond I remember all the flaws and crap that came with them that got fixed along the way to v1.5 now.

CS has been trying to revise and put in the "right" changes since the start. It's too late to make significant changes now, I'm hoping that CS 2 will have all the changes from the wishlist ...I don't think CS can die, it's always getting new players who experience everything that's kept me playing for 2 years or so and even when I get tired of it (not yet :-p ) it's been fun.

As for the compatability issue the survey Valve conducted showed that a large proportion of the multiplayer community do actually have the specs and internet connections needed to run halflife at an adequate speed and they developed Steam based on these statistics.

I think CS has already proven that it is unlike any other multiplayer game. Since I joined the community about 200 genius' decided to prophesize about the oncoming "end of Counter-Strike." As you may have surmised, none of these predictions have come true. CS doesn't fit into a normal timeline that you describe.
Okay. About what you said that CS stands out unlike other multiplayer game, you are right. But my main point is: implement what is right to the changes and upgrades of CS 1.X, and the upcoming CS:CZ. When you fit in the right thing, all of us will be glad to play it.

For example CS:CZ's graphics. It was completely overhauled. In a way, it provides more eye candy play to us, but to how much extent it should be? I am not the right judge to decide that. But I can say that it really taxes some computing power to produce nice graphics like that.

I have played CS since BETA 5 and I tell you all what interests me to continue playing CS: not because i am a good fragger, not because I like to be fragged, but because of the nice changes in it. New weapon cameos, ample graphics advancement(which is until now, still highly playable from many of us), and server stabilities-wise. And NOW, I am not really impressed with the minor and unnecessary changes nowadays(maybe due to ideas ran out?). And I can assure you I am not the only one who thinks about this. You just go to any cybercafes at your nearest place and ask any CS players about this(not CS mad fans ok?), they will give you the same answer as I do. Or better still, refer back to csnation's previous message boards, you can see many players out there who voice unsatisfactory quotes and comments about CS nowadays.

I am not trying to prove that I can predict when CS will die. I am just telling you what should be in, and what should be out!. I am not a genius either. I am just an average local university student, just like any other guy. I do not even want know how much longer CS can survive. I just wanted CS to be carried on longer!

it is a substance almost, but not quite, completely unlike tea...

As for all the "CS-is-dying" ppl out there, it doesn't exactly emphasize your point that your writing on the biggest CS-Site known to man...

Valve sucks, because they haven't put out games?

Well, anyone who can make a tight enough engine to make it run 4 years down the road are pretty nifty to me :)

Besides, who do you think make all the frequent patches? Santa?

Not to mention the massiveness of the support they provide CS, and other mods... even adminmod speaks of the wonder of valves tech support to them...

And last, but not least, to the ppl for which CS:CZ is the end of the world, don't buy it... as I understand it, it should run alongside the mod in multiplayer... And besides, what did you expect? That they didn't develop new engines or graphics, simply because ppl can't afford new pc's? That the worst "Status-quo" crap I ever heard... if that really was the case, then we'd all be stuck with Donkey Kong, and PacMan... if we would even convert to the expensive pc, when we did have our superb c64...

And when you take big game distributors, like Interplay (don't know about blizzard and EA) they have different developers, like Sierra had Valve... plus, HL had not come this far, not even with CS, if they didn't constantly tweak the engine to support new features/better code, like voicecomm, netcode, higher resolutions, extensive bugtracking and so on and so forth...

        _____

Any contradictions in the statement above is either on purpose, or a figment of your imagination :)

And for you, puffycloud..... :) :)

To what length would we go to distract us from the fact we are waiting for ConditionZero...

CSC is just a way to wait like another.

          I prefer waiting with 1.5

CS is to young to get back to "good old days".

As you know CS-Classic beta 1 and the update 1.1 have been released. There has been a mixed point of view in the community, some love it, some hate it.

Many people who actually played the betas must have been fairly disapointed as it was pointed out by rizzuh to be just CS 1.1 with old maps, skins etc.

CS-Classic was a kind of experiment, a bit of fun where i was going to play with my friends. But 1 night i thought to myself, i'll go and tell cs-nation to see if they're interested. I never even dreamed that it would be posted on CS-Nation (to my surprise it actually did get posted)... I was about to faint.

I can see that rizzuh isn't really supporting the idea and i dont think he likes it at all. But due to the mass mailings I got, I decided to assemble a team...

What will the future bring? In beta 2 we'll be trying to get it as close as possible to CS Beta 5.2. Because that is what you people are asking... I understand that there exists lan-games. But that is (sorry to sound so harsh) only for freaks. You need to go through a hell of a job to get back to that old thingie... No servers are available etc...

When I first "released" it on CS-Nation, there were about 50 servers running (thats 25x more servers then lan- games have).

Though this attempt to "create" a modification has to be called a little dull. For the next attempt (CS- Classic Beta 2) we make the promise it will be as close to CSb5.2 as possible.

As you can see, we decided to keep the name. Main reason is: it's a damned good name. It's spoiled due to this beta 1 and 1.1.

So this will be something to look very forward too. But though I now have the help of an experienced coder, it won't be out for quite a while as we need to rewrite the whole code!

Most mods would die after facing something like we did. We won't! We will stand up and fight! Fight to bring YOU the ultimate fun, the ultimate pleasure of killin' friends with a knife while dancing around them. We will bring you back the pleasure of the scoped M4A1. We will bring you back the fun of the old days, bringing you the fun of CS b5.2.

Features where you were all waiting for:

              - scoped M4A1 (yeah rizzuh, you will be able to snipe again :))

              - quick knife run

              - Where-you-aim-is-where-you-shoot

              Features that MAY BE included:

              - Old Netcode-simulation over the new netcode-network

Thanks for your time and we will keeping you up-to-date at our homepage (http://csclassic.cjb.net).

I wonder why people really care about CS classic when most of the people havent even played before 1.0...

Anyway Sierra/Vavle is a bad company. Look at their history and they have VERY few games they just take a few and milk them. Look at King's Quest didn't it go to like 10 or 15?

Now look at all those other good companies like EA, Rockstar, Blizzard etc. They bang out good games often and Valve gets NOTHING out in 4 years? I don't care if they are working. Working on a game not helping me at home. I don't care how good or bad CS2 will be, no good games from a company for four years means a company sucks.
You mean the EA sports series? and the Swat series? and 4 versions of GTA? and the warcraft series?

Point is all companies will produce sequals to classic games. Its good business sense. I'm glad they do, I hope they release more sequals. I like seeing my favorite games rereleased on upgraded technology and you have to understand a period of developing a good game takes time, and any time when you're producing a game it's a good idea release smaller projects in between to subsidise the money lost during the production of your main title.

Valve is a bad company? Sierra? Is that some sort of joke? Have you been licking the glue off the top of the captain crunch box again?

I'm not going to waste my breath explaining how they're behind the most popular game ever... that they support and nurture their communities... etc etc

Unless you work for valve you really have no place to judge their current projects because you have no idea what they're working on.

Those companies have huge backings by major corporations as well so their budget is much higher than Valve's is. It takes a lot of money to release games on a regular basis like EA and Blizzard do.
Er.......... I dont think Blizzard releases games that often..........." many " of its games like Diablo 2, Starcraft and Warcraft III are often long overdued...........

And other than making the Warcraft and Diablo franchise, Blizzard HAS NOT made other successful games except Starcraft..........StarCraft 2 anyone ???????? :)

However for EA this is quite true, considering the amount of Fifas and FC Managers they have relased on a yearly basis..........

P.S. ALL THIS IS POINTLESS, ME WANT CS:CZ OR CS 2
