Any good game would make you want to play it, not watch someone else play it.

High-level sports Can draw an audience because not everyone has the opportunity, massive amounts of time, inclination, or the physical attributes to get drafted into an NBA/NFL/NHL/World Cup team.
I completly agree with the first point. But I keep watching soccer on TV.

This is the second point. I do not have the skill to join any national team of any sports. This is why I like to watch sports on TV. They do things I cant.

This point apply to CS. I do not have the skill to play in any high level team. This is wh I like watching demos.

They do things I cant do. I learn by watching them.

Face it. All CS players like to watch demos. Even the best.

This is why CS and all e-sports will come to TV.

Furthermore, I do like watching any sports I dont practise.

I watch baseball, but I cant hit any size of ball with any size of bat.

But it distracts me watching baseball.

e.g. Take Quake. Never played Quake. But why not watching some CW on TV just to enjoy.

    Pretty long post.

If you are still here, know that UK will be part of the Europe. Will bet that with anyone.

I'd like to watch CS played on TV and I'm sure there would be lots of people who don't play the game who would watch it. The only problem is that there wouldn't be the same level of interaction you can get on the computer. But I don't think that is a serious problem.

There's a channel that shows the proceedings in the Welsh assembly everyday which I can't believe anybody watches. So it shouldn't be so hard to get a channel dedicated to online professional games.

The UK is part of Europe of course and nobody from the UK tries to deny that or is ashamed of it. Apparently most people don't want to be part of Europes single currency. But they will want to soon as the Prime Minister is cleverly converting everyone into wanting to join it.

Substances diffuse through a semi-permeable membrane, I defuse the angry father by saying I never touched his girl.

And I love it when you Brits say "holiday" insead of vacation. It's so, darling, mate. Erm.

          Ahhahah.....ahahahahahah..ahaha..

.hahah. Okay I'm done. However, I do agree that Americans basterdized the english language since Britain did "invent" it.

          -Back on topic-

I think it would be rather amusing to watch .ska (or whatever the clan is called) against 3D. in the final match.

Us Brits are the people who can spell (honour, colour etc etc etc), and we don't invent pointless words like "hospitalise" instead of "cure" people.
Hey, look! He's British! That means he knows which words have completely useless "u"s in them! Fucking prat.

My point is that online games don't have anywhere near the requirements that actual sports do. When a soccer player moves up and down the field, the sheer amount of physical training comes into play with his leg strength and endurance. When a CS player moves, no such things come into play. They are simple, static attributes that are shared by all participants. Online games are quite open because of that. Everyone has a pretty good shake, so it stems to reason that the majority would rather be playing than watching.

Playing World Cup soccer requires some huge commitments (not to mention luck of the genetic draw), while playing CS requires you to turn on your PC and move the mouse a bit. I'd wager that becoming good at an online game is more feasible.
e.g. Take Quake. Never played Quake. But why not watching some CW on TV just to enjoy.
Because i can download that demo and watch it on my computer, at any resolution my computer can handle and without commercials. The people who would watch PC game matches on TV are the people who most likely don't have one and/or don't know squat about the game. That's a dubious demographic to cater to. Entertaining that group is the only way to make up for the costs of televising PC games, and i don't like that one bit.

Maybe you are one of the few not amazed when seeing a NiP demo (although they are dead ant they?). When I saw the Worst CS movie Ever, I dropped from my seat.

I would like to have a TV channel to turn on, rather than 10 min of dL to wait. Thats just comfort and lazyness.

Everyone says Frag Or Die is the best Cs movie ever. I did not dLed it because I wont wait nearly an hour for any CS movie.

TV is quicker than the web atm.

would you really sit through 10 mins of commercials to watch 20 mins of a cs match..

i really dont see the point.. unless you have a rubbish computer and want to see what it looks like at 100fps

Nothing could be further from the truth.

With my Dled demo, i can watch it whenever i choose. It gets saved to my HD, can be played back with higher quality picture than TV, is easier to watch due to better FPS than TV, and stored in far less HD space than recording it with TiVo would take. With my DLed demo, i have complete control over quality, viewing times, and storage. As far as watching matches goes, my computer ends up being completely superior to a costly broadcasting deal. You're just about the only online gamer on the planet who isn't aware of that.

If it were televised, i'd probably have to wait HOURS before its slot came up, making 10 minutes look like nothing. You'd have to wait for hours again to see a rerun unless you have a TiVo or they constantly run the same matches 24/7 (which is not something you want to do with a network). If you think that televised matches of online games are going to offer shit up on demand like downloadable demos can, you've got another thing coming. The only way TV is going to be faster is if you're still on a 2400 baud modem.

I have to agree, Cs on TV would be Stupid.....Unless we had a 24/7 Cs cable channel.........LOL.........with inter-active viewer capabilities, Virtual-reality suits, Hollow-gram joysticks, and plenty of cold and frostys so as not to get bored...Ya, id go for that then.

ok, that's horsecrap. not all cs players have ridiculous twitch reflexes that allow them to play at really high levels. case in point is my buddy ryan, who back in the days of beta 7, and occasionally today, would run around with an awp, shooting people with a zoom time measured in milliseconds, or no-zoom firing as he jumped around corners. there's no way in hell i could play like that, or like many of the players that i see demo's of. now, i'm not a great CS player, i figure i'm like rizzuh and asspennies in that i am wildly inconsistent. for the most part, i am in the top third of the server though. and there are people out there that can do shit that i can't even dream of doing. and no amount of practice is going to make it so. perhaps the differences are not genetic, but due to a childhood which i wasted in my sandbox and outdoors, rather than in front of my NES and SuperNES. But the differences are there, just as in soccer, although perhaps not as noticeable as in soccer, since shitloads of people play it compared with cs. and yes, this is really starting to ramble on, so i am going to stop here

As it seems, the USA seem to be the only people who can't spell properly (to further ignite the flames) :)

Can I also point out that the USA and Australia (and maybe Canada, I dunno) are the only countries almost that call soccer "soccer" when clearly its proper name is "football". What the hell is the point in calling American Football "Football" when you use your hands?

In regards to the original topic of conversation, I still don't think CS will be popular on TV. When you watch a replay, *YOU* have the choice as to what you want to see, first-person view, third-person view, overhead map etc etc etc.

You just won't get that kind of choice to watch what you want. All you American's will demand live time showings of games - which means it'll be a lot harder (note not impossible, you can foresee a some firefights) to show the good bits. Shortened down highlight programs would probably attract more people (not within CS circles) as they would be able to edit and broadcast the relevant bits of the matches, although I am quite aware this isn't quite what some CS players want. Also if it were a a highlights program, on say every night of the CPL, for 1/2 hour or something, then probably the bigger networks in the USA will be more likely to show it (note I doubt Europe would ever get much of it due to Germany's draconian game laws etc, and the UK only really bothers with 4 TV channels - that are reasonably good quality, as opposed to 100 TV channels that you jump between every 1/2 hour like in the USA - btw UK Channel 5 is excluded from this as it is clearly a pr0n channel).

Oh yer, and can I just point out that the USA only got to the quater-finals of the World Cup, because a fair few of the good teams were in the other 1/2 of the draw, and the god teams you played where most definitly off-colour this year (definitly Portugal). Don't think you are a footballing god country yet (not that England aren't yet anyway, but we're well on the road to it).

</end long post, and back to work>

I couldn't tell which side you were trying to defend with that line.

Not once have i ever heard someone -Brit or otherwise- say "That colo-UUUUUUUUUUUU-r was once worn by hono-UUUUUUUUUU-rable kings". I'm fairly convinced that English people spell it like that just so they can act like ponces about it.
not all cs players have ridiculous twitch reflexes that allow them to play at really high levels. Blah blah blah, blah blahblah blah.
You don't just "get" twitch reflexes unless you contract Parkinson's disease. Beyond that, it's a matter of getting familiar with the concept of hand-eye coordination.

The US vs. Mexico match clearly answered this question.
