Ignoring that it can be completely disabled, when your recoil is very high finding the center of the reticle is pointless. You can draw a little dot on your screen, if the dot doesn't really reflect where the bullet will go then it has absolutely no purpose.

True, Valve generally does a good job on non-gameplay changes. However, I would rather the gameplay be managed by more competent people for CS. How can you expect to make reputable changes when you don't play CS much, or at least not religiously? Same as for Minh and cliffe. If they have lost interest in the game, just say so. Don't make stupid decisions and ruin it for other people, and then be too proud to admit you fucked up to change it. This also applies to you rizzuh. Why do you run a fan site if you don't care? Your usual response to an opinion that disagree's with your own is something along the lines of that's nice, you're an idiot, even if the opinion is constructive and well thought out.

Even if the area of randomness is expanded, it is still possible to center the target so there is more chance a bullet will fall on the target. The more area of the target is covered with the random area, the more likely the target will be hit. If the center of the crosshair is not definate, you will probably not be able to accurately center the target in the area of randomness.

I like how GonePostal knows if cliffe and Gooseman play CS. He also knows what I think. He knows what I care about and what I don't care about.

This is why I don't take you seriously, or even like you personally. You just assume left and right because you miss jumping. You make up things like me calling people who miss the jumping change idiots. If I call someone an idiot it is not because their views, it's because they're an asshole like you who chooses to flame my site's credibility and re-hash the same arguments over and over and over and over and over because Mary lost her doll and Mary wants it back. You're an "idiot," as you would say that I would say, because you make false accusations and then blame me for not taking your opinion seriously.

The CS team didn't "fuck up" anything. In case you haven't noticed, it's been two months and a lot of people are happy with 1.4 and 1.5. We didn't all just leave like you and zimzap would have predicted. Those who are unhappy with the changes are basically screwed; I feel for them but I simply disagree with them. The game is not going to change back until, possibly, CS2 or the plug-ins become popular.

Once again you attack the people behind the change and the people who support it rather than presenting a conclusive argument as to why jumping should be reverted. And then you act like you presented a real argument when you just flamed three people for "being out of touch." Gooseman does not play CS because he is making CS2, but cliffe does play CS quite often and I can almost promise that he was the one who pushed the change through. I play CS almost daily; time permitting, of course, because this site is a large responsibility. We're not out of touch we're simply not of the same viewpoint as yourself.

Why don't you just get over it? You don't see me bragging about how jumpers are no longer viable in our post-1.3 world. I am getting very tired of your personal attacks that lack merit. I have addressed you many times before and it seems like at least twice a week you have a carbon-copy post about how jumping sucks and we, the people who play CS, are clearly wrong for still loving the game.

You also seem to entirely miss the point of argument. You're supposed to develop sympathy, empathy, or understanding, not expect someone to simply change their viewpoint. As I've said many times before, I feel sorry for the jump-fans but I'm not going to lose my personal opinions over the matter. The amount of empathy I did have for them has been shrouded, I admit, by the countless spam attacks to my inbox, the credibility attacks in the comments, and the lack of empathy and understanding that they give me.

Well, at least rizzuh had some good replys in this mailbag.

The thought that suprises me the most is that Gooseman created CS almost single handedly back in the beginning and it has outlasted so many professionally crafted games.

If I were replying to this mailbag I'd say something along the lines of "The biggest change to CS was the HLTV spectator client. It (and the CPL) set in motion what could turn CS into a professional sport that someday may be broadcast on ESPN".
yeah, rze is smart (according to what his friend told me). never attempt to underestimate him.

also, wut is HLTV and how do you use it (to avoid breaking rules, e-mail me at: doctorssr@hotmail.com) thanks.

There ya go. Anyway, I'm not that pissed about jumping anymore, although I wish it would be changed back for the simple fact that it changes map balance in very subtle ways. Fix all the physics bugs, make the penalty after the first jump, something. All I wish was that headshots were reduced, to reflect how CS was around 1.0-1.1... that would more than make up for the jumping. But back to my point... has Gooseman played enough to adapt to the jumping? I would assume that he doesn't spend 100% of his time making CS2, and that he still plays CS occasionally... I'll make my third wish, genie, and wish for a response from Goose that yes, he has adapted to the change and if he does or does not like it, and if he does or does not like someone spraying an ak from 100 yards and getting a random headshot... pretty please flame me!

BTW, whoever stated that the point when the VIP gained the USP was a great thing in CS is wrong; although the fact that he got the USP is good, the amount of damage the knife does per attack decreased in that beta, as well as the adding of the utterly useless secondary knife attack, which still isn't as powerful as the original slash which could kill a a guy wearing a helmet with one quick slash to the head.
Good point. Knives should obviously be more powerful than say, a glock bullet. Why, you ask? Take a 9mm bullet, and stab your leg. Think about how much it hurts. Now take a big sharp knife, and stab your leg. Hurts a lot more doesn't it? And yes, in case you're wondering, that is a complete joke, and probably stolen from some other idiot. :)

HLTV=Half-Life Television. I'm going to mangle this explaination, but it's basically a program that allows clients to spectate internet games that are "broadcast" by the game server. A huge bonus is that it also allows for the recording of "demos," basically a replay of a CS match just like you were watching it real-time.

HLTV was used heavily during the CPL last summer and is now quite frequently used for league play so people can watch the matches.

As for using it, I've never been too good with using it and so I just use GeekPlay, which you can d/l at http://www.sogamed.com, the former GeekBoys site.

I thought stubborness and resistance to change was a trait fettered to Florida and its incredibly high concetration of old people and Geritol! I've only been playing CS since 1.3, but already I'm getting a lot of that "new fangled crosshair" sediment. Out with the old, in with the new. Time for your medicine, Mr. Thompson; quick, you'll miss Matlock!

Remember how recoil was shown in b5? That's what i was getting at. I had no real dissatisfaction with the way it was handled then.

I find the lack of a clear indication of where the center is to be annoying, because there's enough confusion over where your shots are going to begin with. It makes aiming seem more sloppy than it needs to be, especially with longer range shots.

Yes, as Nighthawk posted earlier, which you may have missed, the variable "cl_dynamiccrosshair 0/1" turns the dynamic crosshair off and on, respectively.

As for the confusion to finding the center of the reticle, I understand your point but I would think that such confusion is intentional. It's supposed to be difficult to hit someone with an AK shot, for instance, at extremely long range, even if you wait for the recoil to die down, much less when bursting or going full-auto. (Which, I might mention, seems to be oddly accurate of late...I've seen many long-range kills by someone holding down the trigger and emptying the clip...Perhaps with all those bullets flying, statistically one of them or even several will probably hit...but it does seem quite odd.)

Yes we have the benefit of a high-precision pointing device that a real-life person holding a rifle doesn't have, but either way it's not supposed to be easy to make a long-range shot. Just a few degrees in any direction, at long range, will throw your shot off completely!

By the way, how was recoil handled in beta-5? I'm interested now.

I certainly don't disagree with you, mouth. Aiming is, basically, a cone. Certain variables increase the base area of the cone. The code picks a spot within the cone and there's your bullet. I would hope that CS2, or something sooner, actually starts to account for real physics and stops the randomness. Summerblue.net has an excellent report on why this inaccuracy helps many weapons simply turn into shotguns.

The expanding crosshair (while moving?) isn't really related to the aiming system so sorry if I didn't get what you meant.

I'm glad that you seem to agree that long range shots are arbitrary. I've believed this for a while now and have purposed that headshots be removed at a certain distance, in lieu of changing the entire aiming system. It probably won't happen because most CS players simply don't agree with the change in theory. They thinking aiming for a headshot at a long distance is possible. Most skill movies I watch have the guy aiming for the chest and riding the rocoil to the head, but whatever people want to think.
