Most important in your effort to help improve the CS community, have a good time while playing CS without needing to make fun of others. Ridicule is funny a lot of the time, but when the other person isn't in on the joke it can build a lot of resentment. Make sure they know that whatever you say is all in good fun! That goes for you too, pal -- never take the game too seriously. Some people are just rude in general, but most CS players are just trying to have a fun experience.
The cheating, the immaturity, and the newbies are the undying embarrassment of all CS players when speaking to Quake 3 or Return to Castle Wolfenstein fans. True, there are plenty of warm-hearted, humble CS players, but most of us are trash-talkers who laugh at our own teammates and rarely, if ever, rely on teamplay except as a DeathExcuse (tm). Why is this? Do we act immature just to fit in?Once again, yes I most definitely agree. But, in my opinion, it's a necessary evil that's spawned by the fact that the majority of computer gamers are quite young. Still, it would be fascinating to do a "CS census" and figure out the demographics of the entire CS community.
