The full download of HL 1.1.1.0 is around 86 megs. TFC, DMC, and Ricochet are 61.5 megs combined with max RAR compression and 68.1 max Zip compression (for comparison's sake). If that ratio of necessary/unnecessary files seem anywhere near reasonable to you, i don't think i'll have too many regrets in saying that you're a goddamned idiot.

I was using Steam to play the 1.4 Beta, and i thought it sucked ass. I was on a T3 connection in University residence, and it took fucking forever, and was laggy as hell once I started playing. When 1.4 was released, it was faster for me to spend 5 minute downloading the upgrade once than 2 minutes or more every god damn time I wanted to play.



That said, I'm still a little unclear how Steam works, so hopefully someone can help me. Say I join a server running de_dust2. So Steam downloads the bsp, and I play away. Now, does this stay in a temp file? or will i have de_dust2.bsp installed permanently now? Cuz if it's a temp file, that licks nuts. With hard drive space as cheap and prolific as it is, there is no need to keep things in temp files. If Valve ends up using Steam to deliver the exe files, it might be worthwhile.



The new map kicks shitloads of ass. It's a hell of a lot better than de_chateau, de_storm, and de_nuke. It looks great, is massive, but the routes are short enough that it never gets too slow on a public game. It might not be so good for 5v5 clan matches, just due to the sheer size. But, time will tell.



As for Richochet, If you don't like it, try starting a server of your own and get used to moving around. It's pretty fun one you get used to it. setting it up so you pogo is pretty neat (or I am just easily amused). Little of Column A, little of Column B. Oh, and DMC and TFC? They fucking kick ass. DMC is so fun and hectic, it sometimes makes CS seem like a snail on quaaludes.



PS Props to CSNation for the mirror list. I got the whole deal in under 15 minutes (oh, I love my DSL).

As for the updates - well I have not installed them yet but jeezus, the comments posted are putting me off already. Will somebody please post a balanced view on the changes in this update instead of bitching about Steam / Valve / broadband etc. another time, another thread.

Yeah hi. Demoplayer - ain't working for me. F2 does nothing during the demo, it's unbound. So there must be a command to launch it thru the console... any ideas?

However all you can do with it at the moment is fast forward, rewind and pause etc.

I have F1 and F2 bound to communicate "affirmative" and "negative" respectively (by radio and/or teamsay) in every FPS that I play which has the option.



As I can also bind my 4th and 5th mouse buttons to F1 and F2, this allows me to make quick responses to other people in game, without moving my hands from the keys. Now I'm going to have to go through the autoexec configs of every Half-Life mod that I play (including CS, TFC, FLF, ActionHL and more) and reset these scripts to different keys, which (a) will take ages to change and test and (b) is difficult as I already use all the alternative F-keys for other radio/teamsay phrases...

i also have the same problem on secure servers with 'Error! Server verification failed'. Seems to me that a lot of people have this problem, and i think it has something to do with a firewall and/or router. Valve please fix this, 'cause playing on unsecure server... well....

dang, steam won't even work on my comp, i tried using it for a while, i join a server then while its downloading the map, it moves up a little bit then it errors out, i thought -****audio would work for it since it worked for cs 1.4 when i installed it, but it doesn't. i wonder what the problem could be.

has it been asked whens 1.6 coming out! :P lol good coverage i have noticed that 1.5 runs smoother (in my opinion) than 1.4 crazzzzzy and could u class a "easter - egg" somethings name in it! new map check out da sundial! "mad" emporer Freds had me realling in my seat with loops of laughter ! then i blew it up!
