Fps shooters for consoles are crap. Thats just my opinion. Then again CS would run hella lot smoother on the Xbox than on my crappy comp. Ah well. I need a new computer...

My final saying on this is that I think the Xbox CS version won't be compatible with the PC version anyway.. I think it will be restricted to MS Xbox Live only..

It's only fair to let console play v console, and PC v PC.. Because if both versions are compatible, the best console players wouldn't stand a chance against the average PC player imo, FPS control on a PC is so much more easy (aiming etc)..

I finished Halo a few weeks ago on my Xbox, and have developed descent control over aim in it, but I couldn't imagine playing CS even near to the same level as I do on my PC, not even with the claw setup.. Also, the claw is righthanded only, so for lefties like me that option is out of the window right away..

I bought Halo for my Xbox because it is a must buy & play game (it ownz!), but other than that I'll stick with my PC for pure FPS games.. I.e. 4 player tagteam Dead or Alive 3 is as much fun as you can get out of any game imo..

A few years down the road the CPL might have CS tourneys on the Xbox.

probably no one will read this but oh well:

                          1. CS is an FPS.

                          2. FPS is a genre that originated on the PC.

                          3. Your average home PC costs more than several XBoxs.

                          4. PCs are a alot more complicated than consoles due to the fact that the number of possilbe PC configurations is nearly limitless where as almost every Xbox console sold thus-far is identical. This is why PCs and their programs are known to require frequent updates on just about everything.

                          5. It is a known fact that the keyboard/mouse method of controlling an FPS is more effective than the XBox controller due to the fact that you aim where your hand moves, unlike using a joystick in which you aim where you push the stick.

With the last section in consideration, I doubt that they will ever release CS for a console unless you made the keyboard/mouse a requirement. FPSs orignated on the PC. There is a reason for this. Somebody with a good idea, thought that by using a computer mouse to aim and a keyboard for all other functions, you would be able to simulate a first-person perspectice while allowing percise control over a game. I would bet you any amount of money that the best Xbox controller FPS player in the world would not stand a chance against the best PC mouse/keyboard using FPS player in the world. PC users would dominate a online-multi-gaming-platform-fps. This poses challenges. If Microsoft released CS for Xbox and it was multi-platform online, Xbox users would not stand a chance against PC users who used a keyboard/mouse. Sure you could give the Xbox users a 60 dollar keyboard and mouse to use, but who would want to buy that? CS users on Xbox wouldn't like CS because it would be too difficult, it wouldn't sell, and it would fail miserably. Of course you could have the XBox's CS be only Xbox to Xbox online play, but that would severely block XBox users from the large online CS PC community we have come to known.

The one thing that has kept the HL community alive for nearly 3 years is a little word we have come to know as mod. Mods allow anyone with even basic computer knowledge to edit their games in small ways, (ex: the logo you spray somewhere in a level) or more advanced users to change things in larger ways (ex: creating a total mod conversion).

If CS was released on a console such as XBox, it would force an end to the familiar update that all us CS users have come to known. No more new guns, maps, models, styles of play, etc. To patch an XBox game would be pointless and probably wouldn't happen. CS is a game that thrives on updates. Updates are what keep CS going. Think about it: If a Counter-Strike that was 100% free of all bugs and errors identical to v.1.3 or 1.4 was released 3 years ago instead of beta 1, and until this day no updates were released, do you think CS would be as popular as it is today? Of course not. Updates are what keep CS interesting. CS would have probably of died out within 2 years. Sure the XBox could come out with a new CS a year later, but this long period in delay would surely prevent XBox users from being compatable with the frequently updated PC CS we all know.

In my opinion, if CS were to be released for XBox, it would work best as a single player game with less realism than the PC version. Split screen multiplayer with friends would probably be fun. The buy system would probably become much more simplified, and the money system might even be eliminated altogether. Online play wouldnt be very wise unless they announced a finalized CS on PC using a specific engine, in which the XBox could then reproduce that version.

All in all, CS as a single player console game could work, and split-screen multiplayer might even be interesting for a while, but as far as an online game that could keep up with the fast pace of the Online PC gaming world, I doubt we would ever see anything of the sort. If XBox were to turn into a Windows based system capable of downloading patches for it's games, in order to keep up with it's PC companions, what would keep you from calling XBox anything but a PC itself.

                          That's just my 2 cents...

Another thing: one of the reasons CS is so popular is that a new version comes out every few months. But XBOX users wouldn't have that feature, would they? Surely they couldn't release a new XBOX CD for every new version of CS. So while CS users are getting new features XBOX users will be left in the dust.
