I like wavey cobble roofs :]
Episode 1 was awful, just AWFUL
I haven't really watched the first 3 movies. A friend of mine gave me an Episode 1 cd and I slapped it in my comp, sat back and ENJOYED EVERY FRICKIN MINUTE.

I was expecting boring dialog but it was just a cool action movie with a little story thrown in.

    Here's a tip, avoid hype.

I was thinking about this yesterday - aesthetically, Dust and Aztec are pretty odd. They feature run-of-the-mill areas, with pretty shoddy brickwork, and yet they have elaborate trims ending the tops and bottoms of walls everywhere!

      It's Just Not Right.
Yeah, neither of them really make sense as a real life area either. They're nice and all, but if you think about it, there's nothing in dust and aztec. There's just walls and crates. The rooms don't particularly go anywhere in. The layout isn't something you'd see in real life. Strikingly different then say, havana or even 747.

Yeah, very true. But, despite that, I can still play Dust and BELIEVE it's real. I can feel the heat, and I've even once or twice moved into shadow because of that.

boot_camp (HLDM map for the uninitiated) is the best though. With the ideal weather outside, I play it believing I'm there. If it's frosty outside, I see the frost on the ground. Of course it isn't there, but the mind makes up the rest of it. I blame the ideal envmap and envlighting.

That's what determines a good map for me. The ability to convince myself it's really there and really exists to the extent that you move your avatar as you would in real life - but just for comfort.

But there is a limit to what people can do.. Most maps on cs wont be soo realistic enough to even have that same effect yours does

That effect may just be individual to me. Others might feel sick.

I know that some maps just make me want to choke - I don't know quite why, but they just don't 'click' like boot_camp and/or Dust can. I blame Dust's intense sun for its ability. Some maps just haven't got the combination. Cobble hasn't - I think it needs harsher shadows. Aztec hasn't - again, needs more contrast. Office needs sounds of ventilation and ringing phones, and sunlight bursting through the windows.

Yes, I light harsh shadows and insane amounts of sunlight.

I still think that cs_office from b 7.1 is the best.

cs_desert sky swimming was great fun! Except when you made a mistake and just fell on top of someone, dying in the process.

Of course, those were the days when people knew about how to kick others by using the standard CS voting commands...

lol i remember votemap! It was fun trying to tell people how to do it if they didn't even know what the console was.

Anyone know how to get Geekplay to play demos in Steam? Seems not to be able to use the cstrike.exe program.

I did, lots of times, usually on servers with 6-12 people. It was especially fun making stuff up to get the good people on the other team kicked. The fact was, players had a combined power to kick, and we'd use it whenever we could at whatever opportunity! Just like how everyone wanted to use Uzi's after they were introduced, just because they were new, then dumped them because they were crap.
