Not like this has anything to do with the article at hand, but somebody had to say it...

I just got back from 12:01 showing of Episode II, and it was great. Though this review is partially biased from a Star Wars fanatic, the movie was much more kickazz than Episode I. Highly suggested movie. Go see it. w00t!

      ...

This post already has SW comments... thats what I get for jumping on the first article w/o actually reading the comments...

I liked th first version of Cobble the best. There I go getting all nostalgic again.

But that bomb area... ugh. I found the RMF the other day and realised how much it changed. The current version is so much nicer. More tactical opportunities... and it looks better too :)

Yeah, that's true. But you can't tell me dust is better now than it was in 5.2 :)

I can't remember Dust in 5.2... my mind is just flooded with other less important details.

BTW, those screenshots really remind me how out of scale Cobble is. At least we learn from our mistakes (mostly).

It had less boxes, a missing chunk in the ledge at the sniper nest, and the black mesa background. I still play 5.2 so that's how I know, not because I have great memory.

I remember! After 5.2 I decided to add more crates since the previous versions had showed how tactical they can be. Dust without crates would be ridiculous - and probably wouldn't play (as) well.

You know how I said I saw the early Cobble RMF? You just reminded me I found an early version of Dust too (must have been around BETA 4/5 time), so I know what you're talking about now. The tunnel area seems so empty without the current plethora of cunningly (some would say carelessly)-placed crates.

I'm so glad the Black Mesa envmap has gone. Chris did an awesome job with the new sky.

I think it was the version previous to the current one which had the most boxes. No, wait, there's Dust 3999 - http://www.mapperstrike.clanpimp.net/reviews.shtml [No, I didn't make it - Paul Shuttle did as an April Fools joke] [doesn't seem to be working right now]

I had always wondered about the size of those boxes and huge steel doors.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like cbble, but I think it's probably one of the most "unrealistic" official maps. Realistic does not a map make.

Hell, they're all pretty unrealistic if you think about it. Cept for maybe office.

I was thinking about this yesterday - aesthetically, Dust and Aztec are pretty odd. They feature run-of-the-mill areas, with pretty shoddy brickwork, and yet they have elaborate trims ending the tops and bottoms of walls everywhere!

                              It's Just Not Right.
