I can't get over the number of people that say they didn't enjoy being a n00b and have more fun now that there skilled... look at it as being a child and wanting to grow up; then you look back and realize those were some of the funnest times in your life.

I started in 4.x ... All I can remember is the first map I played was de_nuke I think. I slowly began to understand the game... but you might say quicker then others. I told one of my friends about this game... he didn't like it at first but I told him to give it an oppurtunity... so him and his brother began to play it with me regularly; we'd go on servers running cs_militia, me and him would go camp in the bathroom almost all the time... it must of been some of the funnest moments in my cs carear... he would boost me on the light... id toss grenades... I remember him always laughing at me because I ran slowler then most everyone(i was running a p1 200mhz with a 2mb video card, so eventually someone suggested i lower my resolution, i played in 400x300 until I got my next computer in beta 7.x)... but just the thrill of getting ONE kill was amazing... now I can't even get that fufillment from getting 6 kills in one round. Also people were a lot more understanding and friendly back then... considering its lack of popularity and skill needed it took a dedicated person to become a veteran player. I also enjoyed CS because of the community back then... most people stuck to the same server day after day... with the unique l33t speak that was used so fluently. Something that is interesting about Counter-Strike over games like Quake, Doom, is the people it brought in... I know so many people in my city alone that hardly touched a computer until CS... let alone the friends that bought computers just for it. Thats why I don't compare games like Quake and Doom to CS.

Also being hazed as a n00b is part of the process... I mean everyone was to a certain extent... so why should the 1.4/retail nubs have it easier? Of course it is over-used... the amount of people that get called n00bs is insane... but in the end it all helps. Just get over it... appreciated the attention. Because when your at the peak of your game... you know every map... you know which guns work for which situations... youll too will look back and say "Why was I in such a rush to get good... those were the best times"

Thats why I have to agree with one of entrees in the mailbag... I''ve played CS steadily from Beta 4.x until 1.3... but now when I play 1.4 I feel CS has lost that flavour for me... maybe its the slowed down gameplay... even though I wasn't a big jumping fan. Either way "if its not broke dont fix it"... i think this should of been a guide for 1.4...

I read the manual when I got CS so I didn't ask stupid questions and I(thought i) knew what was going on. I even planted the bomb in the 2nd server i played in. It was cobble i think. My newbism more consited of shooting full auto with every single gun. Then I started exploring Counter-Strike.net. Of coarse the info i got didn't consist of how i could not kill that guy with my whole clip yet he got me in 1 shot. Then i followed the hosted sites link to cs nation. All of a sudden i knew how to play. I then spent about a month learning how to burst properly with the mp5, ak, m4a1, and the aug. Then i owned

I remember bein' a noob (like 5 months ago...) I really sucked the big one. I did things like tryin to attack a guy with a glock and me with an m4a1 and instead i accidently would attack him with my knife. Trying to plant the bomb at the spawn point. Attacking an awp'er with an mp5 on full auto. Talk about dumb, I left my night vision goggles(yes I bought them.) in broad daylight. Then a friend on a lan game taught me how to burst with an ak, and i owned:)

              Hehee..

              Us noobies rule..

I don`t remember much from my early CS days, but then again,

I can`t remember anythin older than 2 weeks.

But I guess that I`m some kind of a "noob-for-life",

cus I really don`t have any ambition to be the best player around.

I just play it for the fun, and I get a :) every time

when that green +300 blinks on my screen.

              Have fun, everyone! :)

You only celebrated after every kill? I used to do it every time I shot a bullet.

                          being a newbie was fun

i can still remember the 1st time i ever played cs...it was a little over a year ago

it was on cs_office on 1.0 (i had got retail)

i remember running around looking at the map and weapons.....

i remember having a hard time making a diff. between cts and ts

i remember buying any gun to see what i looked and shot like

i also remember that i had played goldeneye for the last 4 years of my life so my first games had ratios like 1:1

and a few days later i was in the 5:2 and 10:1

Yes people still alt f4, use windows key (lose sound most of the time), type kill in consol, and ive even gotten people to turn off their computer telling them if they hold the power in for exactly 6 seconds they get a money glitch. Not to mention killing them with worldspawn and watching them cry

                            N00bs are stupid.

I'll admit I tried gg money 16000 in console once.

I think being a newb to anything is fun, what was more fun to me then just starting out in the game is the clan aspect. Scrims and matches are so much fun, I don't bother trying in pubs anymore, I can get 4:1 while playing winamp... So long live matches! =]

The one thing I notice is the different type's of noobs:

There's the fps gamer, who can get kills but still needs to learn about the goals of maps and the overall feel of the game.

Then there's the person who read the manual/listens to what I'm trying to tell them(wvu).

Then there's every one's least favorite type of newb, the "n00b". These are the people who have never played an fps in their life. They stand still and spray at everything that moves. They never listen to what people tell them, they try to talk to living people when they're dead. They don't know how to buy, (sometimes) they're never team players and don't know how to do anything. These are the people that you scream "OMFG!! gg n00b!" and "WTF, i got n00bed!!!" over. These people are also the most likely to cheat because they're not willing to learn, or practice and they come in with no skills.

                              Thus ends my less-then-intelligent writing.

i was first introduced to the terrorist faction at the beginning of 2002. but not long after that, i converted to the counter-terrorist force but i still cannot frag down those krazy terrorists. eventually, i became the "prince of frag", thanx to my trusty Steyr Aug Bullup, my dear ol Five-Seven, and of course "THE KNIFE!" =)
