Surely game manuals are there to be ignored for a week, then once you realise you can't do half the stuff everyone else in the game can, you read it in a frenzied moment of anger and dismissal, ignoring most of the important stuff before trying again, throwing expletives all over the place and blaming everyone else for making the game unfair by cheating.

No, I couldn't find any mention of 'OGC' in my CS manual either. Must be a reprint.

Being a newbie were the most fun times of cs life. Im not saying I dont like it anymore its just that when I was a newb everything was new and exiting. Now I have seen everyting a million times and done everything a million times. I hope that CZ will bring back some of that old exitment.

Very true. The best moments of games are always the first few minutes/hours/days (delete as appropriate) of getting them. Everyone remembers the first level of Doom, Quake, Quake II, Half-Life and the fond memories they had of travelling through the new and exciting locations. As time goes by you see them more and more and they're just not as exciting the 3rd or 4th time.

Seriously, the best moments are had when a game is young. I know the HL engine inside out (well, maybe not, but I know what I need to know) and it seems so simple. When I first saw HL, I wondered if I could ever map for it - it was so complicated.



Personally, I'm awaiting for Doom III or TF2 to rekindle those first moments of awe and excitement, and hope I don't get to beta test either of them.

Me and my mate started playing at the same time, and we could never believe some of the kills that people were getting. He would always, always shout "CHEAT!!" and I would tell him to shut up and die.



Now of course, I can pull off outrageous MAC10 killathons and AK snipe. But I'm still shit. I also realise that when we started, during 1.3, cheating was at it's peak. Which makes me wonder, were the people we were playing against good players, or did every bugger have OGC?



Another mate of mine is currently in n00b land. Whenever he plays he maintains that the shotguns are great and tries to outshoot someone with an M4A1 across the other side of the map... OMFG wot a n00b!!!!

Good mailbag, I liked it. Except for the hostile and sarcastic remarks on rizzuh's part. (But that's in every mailbag, so... yeah.) Anyway, being a newbie was really cool in hindsight, but I don't think I enjoyed it. The only thing I liked at the time was the seemingly infinite amount of weapons to choose from. Anyhow, I must be going now... Toodles!

I really don't get why n00bs are so bad. I think they are just really stupid idiots. I got the game, started to read the manual, then I went to aztec and guarded the bombsite on CT. Got about a 2:1 ratio and then went T and planted the bomb with ease. So the bottom line is the n00bs should READ THE FUCKING README.

About 6 of my friends and I started playing cs in 5.2 at the same time. So i enjoyed being a newb :) We were all newbs together. It was fun to have one guy refresh alll the game servers in cs (cuz we didnt have gamespy), then call everyone up and go into the servers. I remember I had a sleep over and about 2 blocks down from my house there was another cs'er sleep over and we ran over in the freezing cold to obtain the IP adress, (cuz it was like 4 in the morning). i dont remember anyone calling us n00bs though. i asked a lot of questions too! i still have like 4 IP adresses memorized from 2 years ago. its crazy :) being a newb was fun. cs has come a long way since.

don't diss the guns till ya can use em....actually try to snipe with those guns in 1.4, the accuracy is like 50% better. once you've playe with em for maybe a half hour, you can own most n00bs

being a n00b was probably the only time I really had that much fun playing CS. I used to be able to laugh like crazy while trying like hell to actually stab someone without using the mouse and looking like a total idiot by doing it.



and there was also a time when I thought that you were supposed to throw the bomb at someone else. (yeah. I used to be a really crazy player. haven't changed that one bit.)



but now, my primary concern is getting to the top of the scoreboard. i've actually sank to the depths of CS hell by being an individualistic player... but at least i can 0wn a few rounds now, and I can reach the top of the scoreboard with a P90-deagle combo.
