Sources inform me that Valve has begun silent and limited testing of a new module for their anti-cheat that detects all versions of OGC, a popular cheat, that said source has tested. This may be some sort of hook fix in general. Once released, the anti-cheat update will automatically be downloaded to servers and possibly clients.
We still don't know much about Valve's anti-cheat, except that thus far it has eliminated many popular cheats. Almost all old cheats were instantly disabled, while a few are going to be addressed in a time-frame of "soon."
It's easy to notice that cheating in Counter-Strike 1.4 has decreased by a large margin. With a built-in wall/zoomhack and Valve's slow development cycle for their anti-cheat it is unknown how long this relative cheat-free CS can last.

I agree that I would prefer a working version of CD in 1.4. Why, maybe it's tried tested and true, or I have more faith in CD's creator(s) then I do in VALVe. VALVe kinda screwed up the game I loved so much.
