if shooting guns is a sport, counter strike is sport.

    1. both don't require physical prowess.

    2. both involve skill.

    3. both involve machines.

computer gaming is a new breed of sport. it's very different and in no way better than say soccer. it's less like chess in that it requires reflexes, hand eye movement, team play etc. but it doesn't involve running around and jumping like "most" other sports.

so it's not like chess (a game) and it's not like soccer (a sport).

    maybe it's a weird sport/game hybrid.

rizzuhsHO added close to nothing to the conversation, gg.

According to the dictionary, CS really isn't a sport, but I enjoy it.

rizzuhsHO, it's called strategy. They get into position and wait for a move by the other team. It's not all for themselves.

                              CS is NOT a sport.

Not at the moment it isn't.

I compare "eSports" to "action sports" or "extreme sports". I skateboard, and I did before it hit the mainstream. Skating was just kids fooling around, having fun together. (CS's pubs) Then came the comps, (CAL) and I think most skaters semi-frowned on them. (rizzuhsHO) They were content just, well fooling around. Then came the bigger competitions that gave out real money, not just a couple hundred bucks. (X-Games and eSports CPL) If it weren't for these competitions then skating wouldn't be where it is today. All this because the best skaters decided to compete and now - thanks to them - skating is huge.

I believe - and hope - that eSports will become that one day, it will be mainstream and it will have comps to thank. Wether the average CS player can realise this or not is yet to be known. I know skaters now know this, and they seem to have done it just at the right time. Will CS's turn come at that time, or will it pass, or maybe come to early?

Tune in next time, for another one of sw1tch's rants.

I'm fully aware that I'm an idiot so you have no need to tell me.

                              edit: comps = competitions

I forgot that comps mean something different in eSports.
