    CPL 1.3/1.4 poll

Angel from The Cyberathlete Professional League has started a poll on the CPL forums: Which version of Counter-Strike should the CPL use at the $100,000 Counter-Strike Tournament taking place at the Summer Championship Event? The options are, of course, 1.3 or 1.4. Go vote!

On a related note, I don't know if CS 1.4's client.dll will work with CS 1.3 HLTV servers (demos, I know for fact, won't work), so switching to CS 1.3 could quite possibly kill the whole spectating thing unless we all have a CS 1.3 and a CS 1.4 installation.

While I think they should always use the latest version at these types of events, there have been some somewhat substantial gameplay changes and not enough time for players to adapt, so perhaps its best to go 1.3...but then again the tourney isn't for another couple of months correct?

It's ample time to adapt for these players, they just don't want to. CAL-I gives players a week. The tournament is in about 2.25 months, I believe. It should be noted that CPL players in last Summer's event used a NON-FINAL Counter-Strike 1.3.

The thing to consider here is that no major sports let the players vote on the rules of the game. It is a simple conflict of interest. Clearly you're not the best CS player in the world if you don't even play the latest version of CS!

Sports are not a democracy. If you want to earn $50,000 (or whatever) for your team, you should be forced to earn it, not have the league cater to your wants. If the CPL chooses to use a democracy model, however, there's no question that CS 1.3 will win.

It'd be just like jumping (pun) back to BETA 5.2. Dual installations are required in both cases. Older Half-Life patches would be neccessary. There is no logical difference between any sort of leap backwards in the CS timeline, the only difference is that CS 1.3 isn't nearly as old.

But then again, people signed up for the CPL when CS 1.3 was out. Someone wrote "I signed up for one game, now I have to compete using another." I do not believe it is that drastic of a change, but the guy makes a valid point.

Let us see how the poll turns out.

What's the other recourse? Valve only releases CS in the two months between event and registration?

I do believe it was announced that CS:CZ was going to be the "official" version played at the CPL untill it was delayed. So I don't think you can really use that in your argument scr0ll...

            1.4 it is I guess :)

Maby all the whiny bastards will quit and I can have 100k to myself...oh, i have to be registered. Darn.

Of course, option 3 would be everyone says 1.3 .. and VALVe, realising their mistake releases an emergency 1.41 patch which puts the gameplay back to 1.3 ...

And Rizzuh, beta 5.2 has similarly the same gameplay as 1.3 .. between that many versions, there aren't any changes that modify the gameplay so drastically....

Personally, I've stopped playing CS alltogether since last Friday .... I've been playing lots of SoF2 ... decent game, still not as good as CS.. but a ton of fun...

And I can see the argument where its a completely different game, because it is. Before you would rely on stealth, deception and coordination to win a round, now its going to all come down to reflexes.. and patience... Its like playing Ureal-T Assault vs Unreal-T domination... Yeah, sure they're basically the same game, but they're also completely different.

I'd love to play CS again, but I don't like 1.4 .... I'm done complaining, it just isn't fun to play 1.4, I've given it enough of a chance... moved onto something more entertaining... if 1.3 gamestyle comes back, I will be as well... Frankly, I'm glad the CPL is taking the poll... I want the game I loved back...

Do we have to go through this again rizzuh? I don't think you can qualify to say what should be played for CPL when you don't believe it's possible to headshot someone at 70 yards with skill. They clearly know the game better than you, and probably the CS team and Valve. Do you really think Valve was thinking of the competitive side of CS when they designed 1.4 besides the nongameplay additions such as spectator? Of course not. If CPL wants to play a different version of CS because it suits the needs of the compitition community much better, than so be it. It's not like Valve knows that much about competition anyways.

Yes, we do have to do through it again.

I seem to have forgotten what major US clan you're in. Care to remind me? Will this team be playing at the CPL? If not, your opinions on this subject do not matter.

Do I have to be in a major US clan playing at CPL to know a clownpot when I see one?

Well if my team joined the CPL tour i would vote to play on 1.3

Not that i would be whinning if 1.4 would be the game that we would play at the end.

Anyway all i want to say is that CS lost all the fun that had b4.

In 1.3 u could do anything like jump if you want, have a knife all the time b4 u see an opponent, etc. Now the game requires serious play only if you want AT LEAST to have a decent score rather than mix that with fun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a fair amount of us paid for CS?

                              I did.

I bought the retail version (even though I still use the DL'd version), to help support a game I had come to love.

Now that 1.4 has come out, I do NOT enjoy playing, I do NOT enjoy watching the money I spent become useless. I'm not saying they have to do what I say, but a lot of us paid for this game, and we have a right to be heard.
