I'm not one of the "original" players of CS. However, I have been playing since beta 6. Every time a new beta/version was released there is invariably a segment of the player population that does not like the changes implemented. I for one liked most of the changes including those found in ver. 1.4. Many of the posters in here state that the "skilled" players are impacted by these changes the most and that the noobs are ruling the servers now. Those statements imply that the "skilled" players all hop around getting headshots and utilized the speed walking exploit. While I don't consider myself a l33t $ making CS player. However, I do fairly well and only rarely do I drop below a 1:1 ratio even when playing on a 56k connection against cable/dsl players. I do not employ multiple jumps or speed walking into my game style. However, I rely on accuracy, knowing the maps and keeping a cool head while under fire. In summary, I like the fact that players are not hopping all around with shotties killing me like they are in Quake or UT and the walking change has not affected me at all.

P.S. With every release there are new bugs/exploits that the other "skilled" players can utilize and the same is true for ver. 1.4. The "skilled" players will adapt their playing styles as they always have to maintain near or at the top of the score board.

You guys have no idea what real teamplay is....Real teamplay is where an entire team is one organism.

When I play a clan match I KNOW where my teamates are and if there in trouble - i dont even have to look.

In a top clan match both clans will play like this. SO what will differentiate between them? In cs1.3 it was indduvidual resilience and flare. In cs1.4 its damn luck...

So whats the point of clan matche now ha? ha ferret?

Im not going to leave cs because of this. I still never leae the top of the scoreboard and I still make a joke of most newbies - you just make it a lot harder and a lot less fair on those who have put in all the hard training.

Of course you newbies dont care but one day when you incredibly good youl look back and say "if only they hadnt dont that 1.4 thing"
lol so we dont know what real teamplay is huh? hhhmmm I thought being on the same team, giving covering fire, throwing a flash bang when my team is in trouble, trowing a smoke nade to protect my team from enemy fire, going after the enemy with a pistol to protect the person with the bomb, buying weapons for someone who doesn't have the money, run to there position when they need backup, and covering there back while planting the bomb was called teamwork? Dang I must be a n00b|E

I am a beta 6.5 player. I didnt get good till 1.0. When i got good i got into good clans such as e7 and a|2. I cant tell you what CS was like before beta 6.5. But i can tell you some things. I for 1 are owning at this version because its all about aim. My clan is struggling. OUr strats are useless and its almost impossible to defuse a bomb or attack as T. Rizzuh you are right but, you are also very wrong. In irc there are 5 people quitting a minute and these are the RGL, CAL players. The good ones. You can't tell me goose or cliffe are happy that what they did is making good people quit like Porter or k0z. There is a huge problem in the CS community now that I feel should be addressed.

There is a Schism or a division in the CS community. SOme people like 1.4, mostly new comers, and some hate it mostly the "almost" professional players. Vesslan, ex NiP, has clearly stated that scrims and gatherings aren't fun anymore. I have to agree. I scrimmed atleast 5 times already and T side is impossible. The walking is way too slow, even rizzuh will agree. All I can say is nothing will change. However in CZ there WILL be jumping and a faster walk. Otherwise most won't buy CZ a game I dont think I will buy either. CS isnt realism, its a fun fast paced game thats pretty simple to learn and impossible to master. CZ will make the pro's think twice when they buy a gun now. Thats another issue. For now just wait for the serverside patches because thats a bad issue in itself.

PS - Rizzuh, tell me why you like the new jumping. I am very curious seeing your basically up there with the 3D's and rs's.

As one or two people posted before...

*CS is now pretty much in Valve's hands.

*Hence they will listen to the majority, who are n00bs (Hey, I only just reached 1:1 kills before 1.4 release, I've been playing since 1.1).

*n00bs bitch about not being able to hit the broadside of a barn, hence Valve will tweak the game so that they can. eg. AWP (I thought the 'scope' delay someone suggested a while back was a great idea)

*I myself played UO for the first two years that it came out. You had the hard working people who really got into the game, the cheaters, and when the game got mainstream - the n00bs, who just bitched about how hard it was to get a decent character. The game got gradually tweaked until everyone had a maxed out character with about 1/1000th the work that it required for the original players. Now everyone just sits about remembering the good old days. (Remember before T2A anyone?)

*I wouldn't be surprised if Valve started charging for CS... oh hang on... they are. (CS:CZ)

Just my 2p (I am English)

the new jumping really isnt that bad.

having said that, all the changes Valve is making are stooooooopid

Just out of curiousity, how are we supposed to avoid snipers now? I mean basic tactics-wise. I used to jump like a MOFO (this was the extend of my jump usage) and hope to god he just hit my leg.

Now I have to just run and hope he cant track. I dont mind jumping the way it is, except that ONE jump screws up, so if you jump while someone is sniping at you, you're toast.

I used to tell all my non cs-playing friends that it was a combination between Rogue Spear and Quake. Now its Rogue Spear with more health.

I dont know how many of us have had this problem, but I can barely RUN CS anymore. It lags twice as much, my FPS is halved, my choke and loss are 5 - 10 times what they were before. THis isnt just on the new maps, its everywhere. Am I one of the few with this problem?

Come on guy's. Please stop with the whining, it isn't gonna help anyone. If you just adjust to the running and jumping, and adapt your gaming after it it will be just fine. If you don't like it, then quit playing CS.

As well as the weapons adjustments you'll have to adapt your gaming skills after it, and quit the whining.

I've been playing since Beta 1 and I think this is the best release yet. The jumping makes no difference to me since I can still get around as well as I always have. But, it is nice not seeing flying Tangos. Slow walk? Who cares. I do it and it works fine for me. Lucky head shots? All I can say is prove it. Aiming seems a lot more important this time around. I'm loving 1.4.

If you don't like it, fine, but give it more than a few minutes. If you still hate it, why not go over to Front Line Force, Urban Terror, or TacOps? One of them has to be better than raising your blood pressure over this.

This is right from the horse's mouth at CPL which speaks wonders [sarcasm]how great v.14 is.[/sarcasm]

"I, like you have heard complaints from whiners every time a new release comes out. I thought that much of the complaints (prior to release) were more of the same9just trying to get attention), and hoped that all the changes were for the good of the competitive community. I was hugely dissappointed to find that 1.4 is not at all competition worthy. There are a few points I would like to address.

                              1) The biggest complaint by everyone is the jumping "stamina" addition. This basically makes your speed drop by 50% every time you jump. This very much detracts from the overall skill required to frag players, as they can no longer do anything to avoid your fire.

                              2) Running accuracy. Guns are now not accurate at all while running. At the same time, walking was slowed to literally crawl speed, without adding accuracy. This basically ensures that a player must stand totally still when firing at range to get any hits. Again, this unbalances match play by making it extremely difficult to ever use skill to overcome the advantages afforded to the opposing team on a lopsided map(especially on offense).

                              3) Limited strategic options. This is due to the lowered walk speed. You cannot walk to the other side of a map within the time allotted in match play, due to the slower walk speed. This is a huge problem, as any good player can tell you, sound is crucial to locating enemies(and every step you take while not walking or crawling makes a ton of noise). Basically, either round times will have to be drastically increased, or gameplay will be strictly limited to rushes - which are pointless, as you will be running(with no accuracy) towards stationary(and thus accurate) enemies with no way to "dodge" (aka jump around).

Topic one and two are related, and are problems because they remove skillsets which were required to achieve excellence in 1.3. 1.4 has essentially made cs into a 1-demensional "run-stop-point-and-click" tactical shooter, instead of a multi-faceted, relatively-fast-paced action game.

If it is not realistic to have Valve re-tool 1.4 to make it competition worthy, then I suggest that the CPL either revert to 1.3, or speed up the process on the "special CPL developed Game."

I recall the q3 community rejecting a point release which completely adjusted physics to remove strafe-jumping. I find our situation to be very similar, as this has slowed match-play to a halt."

Is there a way for VALVe to monitor if less people are playing 1.4 and more are sticking with 1.3? I'd like for change to happen, but I really don't want to stop playing. I will keep playing 1.3, and hopefully there will still be 1.3 servers up. I love CS, therefore the best thing I can do for the game, and the community would be to continue to voice my opinion and promote change where the whole community will be happy.

Thank you rizzuh for keeping us informed, thank you valve for supporting our favorite MOD, and thanks to the community for making everything worth-while.
