1.4/1.1.0.9 Issues

Planet Half-Life has posted word of the following issues:

• for lan play, you'll want to add "-insecure" to the hlds command line.
  
  
  
  
• the skies aren't showing up for some people (and not because they have their blinds closed). if you suffer from this problem, visit this thread at the catacombs. yep, the fixes work for hl and cs too.
  
  
  
  
• server stats programs are useless because the same uniqueid is given to the killer and the dead guy. a fix will be released soon, server-side only.
  
  
  
  
• erik has another server bug and solution; this issue will be fixed in the new server-side release: ``we've found a bug in the engine that will prevent clients from connecting to your server if you have "sv_allowdownload 0" set and your server is running in "secure" mode. ... if you set "sv_allowdownload 1" and "sv_send_resources 0", clients will be able to connect to your server (running in "secure" mode) and game resources will not be downloaded to them.'' it only affects cs.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what the "secure" thing means. Is this part of Valve's anti-cheat thingie? Exactly what does having a "secure" server or using the "-insecure" command line do? I think I'd like to know before I start fiddling with my server...or is the explaination buried somewhere in the CS1.4/HL1109 documentation?

another 1.4 issue: it sucks :P that and all of my custom weapon models are left-handed and all of my default models are right-handed.

Yeah, I had the sky problem. I managed to fix it yesterday however by getting someone to give me their gfx/env folder on irc though.



My other problems are CS asking to update, even though it is. Also, everytime I get onto the HL Browser it tells me that my favorite file thing is corrupt. Kind of annoying. Suppose I'll just have to wait for the patch?

I can't seem to disable Auto-Help or the vgui menus.. on either of my machines. Is this a 1.4 or simply my doing?

how about the major bug that one of the best known cheats xzq2 works in cs1.4. This is because Valves amazing anti-cheat stuff only disables cheats that use hooks. zxq2 doesnt use a hook and so can be used ive also seen one wallhack already.



I think that would be classed as a bug wouldnt u?

WTF is up wit this, I can't play the new maps

I know probably no one else have this problem. But last night, i updated my HL to 1.1.0.9 or whatever the new the one is called. Everytime i start a game (lan game/netgame/singleplayer), my computer throws me back to desktop no matter what. I can be in Opengl, software, D3d, it still happens, in all resolution, at all setting. My computer is OLD OLD OLD on win95 OSR version 2, and im using a voodoo 3. But I have been playing cs for years now. Why has this happened? I have tried reinstalling a fresh HL, along with the update. But it still crashes like this no matter what. Has Valve ended support for 3dfx videocards/ Win95/ or have they added some new code that upper system requirements?



Lastly, can anyone tell me where i can ask questions for valve's tech support? Do they have an email address for this?

Man, I updated and CS has no sound and crashes when it tries to join or create a game. Oh well, guess i'll just have to wait for a fix or something..... Good luck to everyone else who has problems. :)

The console commands for those two have changed slighty I believe. Given that I don't know the commands by memory, try with a _ before the old commands. Failing that, just do it in the customise menu.

There's this little thing good servers have. It's called CSGuard. You should try it sometime.

valve claims that the new CS 1.4 patch is the one of the best patches that have come yet. I think its one of the worst. skies not visible? skins not working? maps not running? this is just crappy

Yeah my brother has no sound in HL and its mods, CS/DoD. He is running Win 98, has a 2 year old soundblaster card with the latest drivers.

NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 64 meg

DirectX 8

Windows 98 SE
