    review: strat guide

Please welcome our latest features author, RockSteady (aka AllTheWhile). His first article is a review of the Official CS Strategy Guide. Many people have criticized the book, especially people in our comments pages. Does the book merit criticism?
The last and longest section is the map strategies. All of the other information in the guide isn't really "exclusive" and can be found by puttering around the web for a while. For each of the maps listed there are public server strategies and clan match strategies. I think that the authors totally write off the team play that actually does occur in public servers. They suggest that you shouldn't expect anything but deathmatch in a public server. A bit exaggerated to say the least. Everyone knows that there are a quite a number of pubs where teamplay is valued over deathmatch style play. I'd recommend skipping the public server map strategies, as all of that stuff you'll most likely find out on your own after playing for a while.
    Read the rest here!

Any book that promotes deathmatch play in a team game is full of fucking shit and is doing nothing but hurting CS. I find it funny that ``professional'' clans (X3, DoP, whoever else; I don't follow mainstream CS) bitch about how lame everyone is and how everyone plays the game wrong, and then they go and say not to expect teamplay and playing solo on public servers is the best choice.

yes csnation has an affliate program (notice the number of amazon.com links on this site?). But affliate programs give very small commissions (5-15%). Still every little bit helps. WHENEVER I go to buy something on Amazon.com I try to go through csnation to give them a little monetary boost (hey rizzuh can I get a free Avatar b/c of my generous actions?).
no, i mean with the UK site, i dont see any links :)

I've never heard any of their "bitching" how we all play the game wrong. And, I didn't know I was "lame" and that I play wrong.

i dont see why you should get that book. i mean, this is a game witch you are supposed to learn for yourself, and besides, you will learn just as much by yourself as if youd read that cuz you`ll NEVER EVER remember the whole book completely, especially if a guy jump out of nowhere, then you`ll never think: "hmmm...yeah right.. now i have about half a sec to...hhhmmm.. aim at he`s head while he`s jumpin around and shoot"

you just shoot, its instinct. so id rather save a little longer and buy something better.. like counter strike: condition zero..

i agree with muffinman, who needs a book to teach you how to play a pretty straight-forward game? i can sum that book up in a in a few words...

                    What your suppose to do:

step 1: buy a gun if you have money

step 2: do your job (ct's: rescue or defuse. t: plant or puppy guard)

                    Combat stuff:

Only ONE step: see someone on the opposite team... Shoot!

see, i can sum that book up in a few sentences. Don't get me wrong, the book probably helps and has lots of details, but i would rather use my mental book of instincts rather than spend money on a book.

Am I the only that feels after playing the game for a few months, these tactics are just learned? I mean, do we need a book to teach us that by strafing, we are harder to hit?

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are,

29 so that no one may boast before him.

                            JdeFalconr is a cool dude.
