OGC, the infamous CS cheat that basically hacks every single thing in the game, has ceased public development for CS 1.3. They are "tired of fixing anti-cheats." The bad news is that the 'complete' source code has been released. This means that if the OGC hackers don't update it, someone else will.



Either way, this is a major victory in a so-called unwinnable war against cheats. Cheating-Death is largely responsible for this temporary victory. The sad news is that CS 1.4 is getting close to release and it's lose-lose for C-D. Either Valve's anti-cheat code works and C-D is no longer needed, or it fails and the C-D team will have to work under further limitations due to Valve's code.

Well, it seems to me that this is generally a good thing. OGC is the most widely publicised hack, and even if the source code gets used in other cheats, it's unlikely there will be such exposure for a single cheat again. And as someone said the other day, part of the reason cheating is such an arse is because it's so widely talked about...

Cheats, as well as games, are coded in C++ (I think? sry if im wrong).. Many people know how to code effectively in it, so it sorta sucks.. oh well. I'll shut up now

Hmm.... don't see why it's necessarily a lose-lose situation for the CD team if valves anti-cheating system actually works. Sure, if it doesn't then it gets harder but if it does work, then won't it be a goodd thing for the CD guys? After all, the reason people make anti-cheat programs is to stop cheating in the first place right? So why wouldn't they be happy that cheating has finally stopped and at least they know they have contributed to toppling OGC.
