Redef, my ICQ nightmare, has posted a CS 1.4 preview over on Planet Half-Life. Mostly it's a list and a few screens, but it has a nifty Tracker write-up:
Most interesting is easily the Tracker. This tool is essentially valve’s version of ICQ. With the Tracker you have yet another piece of instant messaging software on your desktop, but with a twist. It operates fully in-game, allowing you to see where your friends are playing and giving you the ability to communicate with them while you or they are in-game. I was very skeptical about this first, but have found it to be incredibly convenient (no more annoying mIRC scripts to tell your friends where you are playing). However, there is one draw back. You can communicate with your friend while they are dead, giving you them the ability to alert you to the enemy’s location and stats (no idea whether this will be changed in the future or not).Check out Planet Half-Life for the screens and the l33t list.
