    interview: Vasily (part 2)

The creator of hook.dll, Vasily Pupkin, has posted a response to all the hate mail and spam he received after his recent interview on cached.net:
Every lamer could write a cheat, but writing an unhackable anti-cheat which would catch all the cheats would be a challenge for a skilled programmer like you.

It is just a hype, which is constantly repeated by some anti-cheater parrots. No one of them have ever tried to create a cheat. Actually, modern cheats are very complex programs, which use a lot of advanced technologies and aren't easy.
This guy likes being hated it seems.

Reading that was a complete waste of time... I could really give a damn about why he may think cheats are ok or if a bishop says we all shouldnt play because it is taking away from the time we should be spending on leaning about god... or about how cheating is non important because terrorists flew into buildings killing tons of people.

This guy is a waste of my time

Too bad you were distracted by it. I read his first interview and sensed this one was going to be long - therefore I avoided :)

"VALVe releases a bloated 30 MB upgrade with useless things like HLTV and voice communication"
This guy is a moron sorry. He doesn't seem to see past his own little world. He is one selfish SOB. Voice communication useless? HLTV useless? These are some of the best updates we have seen! Maby valve is a little slow in addressing certain issues, but sheesh...

                  He seems to think that...

                  -Cheating is perfectly ok.

-Cheating is just another way for people to play the game.

-You should not get upset over someone cheating because it is just a game and thousands of starving kids in africa are dying.

                  -It doesn't bother him.

-Anything he says or believes must be true.

                  Pitiful.

You lot must be complete fucking idiots. The poor bloke has had loads of e-mails from weaponry like yourselves because all he did was write something that then enabled cheats to be written. He did not write cheats. He does not encourage cheating. He did not make this with the express purpose of ruining CS. He just did it to see if he could.

Jesus, why should he give a flying one what dickheads like you think of him? Perhaps if you didn't jump down his throat he would have given his considerable talents over to an anti-cheat....

And I believe the reason he described HLTV and Voice-Comm as bloatware is: if Valve had nipped cheating in the ass as it began to appear, instead of concentrating on those aspects, we wouldn't be in he situation we are now. Which is a reasonable thing to say.

Vasily is a wonderful example of how immature people should not have power.

                      Here's what I love...
I told them about [the security hole in HL]. They just ignored me; they didn't even ask me to keep this information until they released a fix. So I decided that it would be nothing wrong in publishing this information.
Of course Valve's alleged negligence makes it okay and allows this guy to arbitrarily "decide" that it's okay to publish info on a security prob with HL.

                      And then there's this...
On ordinary public servers skill competition is impossible at all, because players don't have equal opportunities.
That's Vasily trying to say that cheating doesn't give people playing in pubs unfair advantages. I disagree, because cheating changes the fundamental nature of the gameplay.

And this statement, trying to refute that honest players don't care about cheaters.
But most honest players also don't care! They spent a whole year playing the game, and they kill other newbie players with score like 30/0, ruining their fun, because no one likes to loose. Cheaters do exactly the same.
This is his rationalization as to why it's okay to cheat in public games. sheesh, this is pathetic. People have fun because of the way CS is played nominally. When that normal play is disrupted by cheaters people don't have as much fun because of the disruption caused by those cheating players.

Some of Vasily's arguments make sense and are even respectable. But he sounds like he's trying to worm out of responsibility for the ultimate results of his work by using poor logical arguments. I don't have time to go into logical fallacies, etc. but have a look at them, they're pretty poorly constructed. Vasily is a wonderful example of how immature people should not have power.

He just did it to see if he could.
Then released it for hacker's to exploit.

Stop bugging Vasily, i'm sure he really did contact valve about the security hole and said he would fix it, and valve didn't give a fuck about the hole... so its actually valve's fault, please everyone spam their inbox with 16,000 messages saying to fix the cheating problem that they started.

I know what you mean in a way, I agree that he wasn't really responsible for cheating directly - and originally I sympathised with the sod.

The thing that really grabs my nipples and twists is that he constantly repeats that he doesn't care about the community and puts cstrike down, preaching about how trivial it is in the grand scheme of things. He then goes on to say that he isn't trying to justify himself but then releases an interview with himself!
