I'm sure there must be more people in my position - I'd love to do something, but parents just don't see sending my money off to some Internet site as worthwhile, is there anything like beenz that we can do?
support CSN!

BlitzUKT wrote..Good luck with it though, but I don't see any reason for it other than staff wanting paid for doing what lots of other people would like to do (run the official CS fan site).
CS-Nation didn't start out as "official" and I don't even enjoy the title. An official fansite is an oxymoron. We took the hosting offer because it was good for us. I have yet to seen a site that has matched the content we've provided in static form for years, or, more recently, emulate the vast amount of features coming from talented people. We're the longest running CS site.
Of course someone else could have came along. Someone else could have made a uk cs site that decimated your niche, as well. The point is no one did it, and we should both be proud of our respective sites for that. I shouldn't cringe at the fact that CSN was basically the only good fansite in September, 99 when we were asked to move. I should be happy that we kept the tradition of good news and a strong focus on content to back it up.
It's as if some people think that all these features and content came out of us being official. Let me tell you that we use the same keyboards as UKT, CSC, and that other CSC. Them asking for donations or not is up to their site.
AlltheWhile-RockSteady wrote..btw, has site traffic increased in the last three months since the sites improved?
Tripled, yes.
I couldn't wait for the IGN analogy, James Bond. Guess what? I pay for IGNInsider and I pay for FilePlanet Personal Server. A lot of the best things in life are not free.
CS-Nation is one of those things that is free. Don't donate if you don't want to, we'll still love ya :)
I might create t-shirts or something, if that's better than straight donations. What do you think?Comment

Would you be interested in something tangible, like t-shirts or (cliched) mousepads?
I understand your position. Payment isn't for everyone. Thanks for your interest (and those who mirrored it above), it does mean a lot to us.Comment

Its very hard to run a website, especially when you run a site that hits approx. > 100000 per week! My site, GFrame.com doesn't get that much hits, but most of the time the hits come from CSNation. I'm glad that there is a site like CSNation which supports the community. But I believe now is the time for the community to support some of CSNation. Given the fact that its been running for the past 2 or so years, without any funds, is a staggering result.
Sites like CSNation find it hard to provide funding, I take it from personal experience, for my site, I had to find a job in order to support the yearly TLD registration ($US 20 = $AUST 45), internet access costs ($40-50 per month). Also time which is a very valuable asset, time. For a university student like me, this is a premium. I try to find the time to update the site, even during class. Writing up articles take up a lot of time also (approximately half a day playing and checking out + 2 - 4 hours trying to slap up a review!).
Its great that there is a fansite like CSNation for you and me to check out every single day, but without your support guys, well it may fall by the wayside, and enter the web limbo like various other websites which have gone in the past few months.
Thats my two cents on the problem, and I feel like buying one of those mousepads! :)Comment

I think it would definately be worth it just to see little ol rizzuh writing 1000 requested features at the same time ;-)
I would donate... but I have never used my paypal account, and got rejected from my first credit card request. Then again i would just be happy if rizzuh wouldnt ban me from #
anymore :\

Everyone who says IGN Insider is a rip off - here is your wake up call.
From Gamespot's no-downloads-anymore-for-free policy, to Fileplanet's you-need-to-wait-in-line, I don't see why ANYONE is surprised when people start asking for donations. The web economy SUCKS people, LIVE WITH IT. I, for one, am an IGN Insider and would pay it even if it was just a donation and didn't get anything.
CS Nation, on the other hand....I hardly ever view it anyways, so the bandwidth I cost CSN is hardly nil. Good luck guys though.
If all else fails, just ask Gooseman for a little donation

See, I've seen a few sites actually use PayPal and make it work. Look at these examples and learn, RZE.
DeviantArt - They provide a community that no one can challenge despite first looks, they really care about art and when a good piece comes (they boo and his and hate the "normal trendy shit") they all seem to artistically know what to say and show help to others. Without this site, most "starving artists" wouldn't have a place to come for peer-eval/help. They offer Subscription and T-Shirts. If you do use T-Shirts (which I think would be cool, cause fuck what anyone else thinks), look at their site and look at their T-Shirts. Their T-Shirts DO NOT look like their website. I love this website, and the way it looks, but I won't wear a T-Shirt that looks like this Website. Make a T that looks like a Shirt. Make it cool. Make like 10 designs and have everyone vote on them, it's publicity, and when the winning shirt wins, everyone will want to get the shirt they voted for. Subscription gets rid of the ads and gets new features early, and stuff. I'd get a T-Shirt. Cept I'm in college. But they do make enough money to have like 5 1.8 P4's running dedicated DeviantArt servers.
Trillian made by Cerulean Studios - I love Trillian. If you're not that crazy phrase "In the know", Trillian is a Instant Messaging tool that connnects to Yahoo! IM, IRC, MSN, AIM, and ICQ while allowing multiple connections. Good program. Go get it. Blah blah. Anyway, they were in this little battle with AIM. They wouldn't let Trillian connect to AIM servers. This pitted a fight of the little guy vs. the man. David and Goliath. Everyone roots for the underdog. That's why your girlfriend rooted for the Patriots to win the superbowl, even though clearly the Rams were the better team on 20 other weeks this season. (damn you patriots). So find a guy that you could be up against and so you get people in your corner. I donated when Trillian put back my AIM account. I know lots of others that voted extremely large amounts of money for a free peice of software. And it sounds like you wrote most of this php code. This might be hard, but hey, it would work. Just don't go so far as to make us Pitty you. Be the man that fights with honor and does the right thing. You'll get money.
Yay.Comment
