Recently (the last three months), we've really kicked the site into high gear. There hasn't been a week without at least two new good reads. Sadly, this site doesn't get any money from our hosts (not their fault), so we have to turn to the community.



Everyone on this site does what they do for free. We have all done it for free since the site was born in August, 1999. In order to reward the people who work so hard on this site (and me!) CS-Nation is asking for pity donations!



I'm not going to demand that everyone pay, but if you find yourself reading all of our content, posting comments all the time, and getting a lot of information/entertainment from the site, maybe you can find it in yourself to spare us some loose change.



If you really want to donate a lot of money ($25+), I'll even code stuff for you. Perhaps POTD comments aren't that far off, hmm.

As if I'm lying to you... I said we're not supported by our hosts. The banner ads come from our hosts. We only profit from the various button ads. If you think 5% of a $6.99 yields anything tangible, it clearly doesn't.



So far Amazon.com and all the other ads have netted < $100. For a site with over 1,000,000 ad views a week, it's pretty bad. Also, most of these annoying little button ads will probably go away if donations do anything productive.



If you don't want to donate, that's perfectly fine. Please don't accuse me of trying to swindle you when you have been viewing a free site years.



We all work here because we love it, not because of the money (money that has never existed, mind you).

I think this is fair enough if only a little optimistic. I consider myself amoung those who frequent this site a lot and have done so for, well ages, way before I started commenting anyway. In regards to donations, I just find it hard to convince myself it would be worth it, I mean as a self-supporting student my $50 (thats australian and worth about $2 american) seems to be worth a lot more to me than it would be to this site. Convince me otherwise, how would you use the money from these donations or commissions rizzuh? And can the quote be a political statement?

Going on what you say, the 'little button ads' don't do anything productive anyway, so they should go away anyway, regardless of your paypal or not hehe.

All CS sites are free, if it wasn't CSN, someone else would've been the 'official' site. Perhaps that's the burden you take on when you are the official site....lots more coverage and constant updating to please.

Blitz, your bias is showing. UKT and CSN are both great sites, coming here just to antagonize seems childish.

All CS sites are free, if it wasn't CSN, someone else would've been the 'official' site. Perhaps that's the burden you take on when you are the official site....lots more coverage and constant updating to please.

I reject your the notion that CSN has a "burden" to provide anything. It is all well and good to expect from the CSN team a high level of quality, but to go so far as to take that service for granted is an insult. Its a community remember, give, take and do it for the love of it.

The use of paid in this context just doesn't sit with me well. When you get paid in this industry, of which I too work in, you get paid well. There is no analogy between the returns from donations for the effort the staff put in and the returns from a putting the same effort into a paying job. Its a community remember, give, take and do it for the love of it.

Okay, so maybe it's not a burden. but I see it as more of an obligation.



But I don't want to get into a flame war, (I've been in enough here already) but if Rizzuh wants to ask for donations, whatever. At least he isn't charging your ISP for every time you visit the site. If ya you don't wanna donate, fine. If you do, then you are an upstanding citizen.



But really, I never thought a CS site could become like a church, and then I saw the electronic collection plate come toward my pew.

however, i would like a garuntee that a certain amount of it would go back into the site, and not just spending change for rizzah.



you guys (especially rze) spend a lot of time and i mean a lot of time making my hobby more enjoyable.



btw, has site traffic increased in the last three months since the sites improved?
