    CS 1.4 NDA

Rant House has added a new rant. I can see what the author is talking about (and have to deal with it myself), but I just don't get why he chooses to violate his NDA by stating he is a tester. Here's a tidbit about what he's talking about:
I get to try out CS 1.4 with a few hundred anonymous people before anyone else.

Unfortunately, Valve saw fit to make me agree to a rather binding non-disclosure agreement surrounding the beta.

I'm a journalist. A professional writer. I find the facts and report them to the people.
    I'm sure everyone feels sorry.

Just for the record, I don't see stating "I am a CS 1.4 beta tester" is a violation of my NDA.

Why? I received notification that I was a tester before I even saw the NDA, much less agreed to it.

While I won't divulge details of CS 1.4 (not that I need to at this point), I'm not paranoid enough to disavow all knowledge that it even exists.

This is a game, after all, and Valve isn't the CIA.

However, if you want to get really hard-core with the interpretation, Rizzuh admitted in the post that he's a beta tester. As such, I guess he and I are NDA violation buddies.

Now long will it be until we see the [NDA] clan in the CPL?

Rizzo has become the moral conscience of the beta community. Maybe he isnt happy about so many more people being beta testers instead of it being just him and 30 other people.

I think the only reason rizzo even posted this "news" (if you even want to call it that) is just to point out that The Reverend Dr. Jake "violated his NDA".

Really though, Rizzo and I are not much different in that, while he posts news that, according to his comments of NDA violations, shouldnt have been made public in the first place, I say incriminating things about him while working at his website.

      Its a double double standard.

What I dont understand is, while cs cheats are posted on other websites and we 'all' feel that cheats shouldnt exist... here at csn its absolutely PROHIBITED to post such cheats. Yet when other people 'violate their NDA' we are quick to post the findings of such violations. What a strange people we are.

Well I don't know about you but I haven't see anyone from Valve executing NDA violaters. If you ask me the NDA is a lot of hot air which doesn't care about you or me, the NDA is there to protect CS 1.4 from magazines and such that make money from this kind of information.

If your a professinal writer, shouldn't you realise that sentence has no verb?

Thanks to all the idiot testers who are leaking all this information there will probably never be such a public beta test ever again. Good job MORONS.

ya there will. CS has grown out of its "30 beta testers" shoes.

                    lets see... 'professinal'? 'realise'?

Ironic isn't it, that your mistakes are worse than the ones you point out.

Jake is a professional writer. When he is on IRC he says everything properly. He doesn't even leave out a period! I'm going to make a I hate Jake webpage

I didn't say I tested 1.4. I have tested BETAs 2-7, this is how I know what you're talking about. On the other hand, you didn't imply anything -- you clearly stated you test 1.4 and feel sad that you can't post your feelings about it.

You found out you were accepted into the program without an NDA. You applied without an NDA. You confirmed your acceptance by agreeing to a ULA which includes an NDA clause. The only reason you have 1.4 is because you agreed to an NDA. It's the difference between authentication and authorization.

Of course, no one really knows if there's an NDA or not. Saying so would violate the NDA.

Oh, back to defending yourself about chatting about the beta in a public room, I see.

They submitted the news to us and if you visit their site you'll see they were fairly anxious to get it on our site. I do not judge the author. Many people have spoken about the beta and, sadly, Valve can't do much about it.

Valve has not violated the first admendment. We post items that are submitted/e-mailed/on public display. I am not violating an NDA that you assume I agreed to.

We do not post cheats, because cheats are not news in the typical sense. It is simply not what most of our visitors are looking for. CS 1.4 info is what our visitors want.

CS-Nation is prohibited to post nothing. People have posted links to cheats, cheat sides, and beta leak previews. Many links were removed based on my own set of standards, not a third party's. I'm sure GameSpy and cliffe resent the accusation of censorship.

In case you're wondering, there's a difference between censorship and journalistic values. I would get a lot of flak for "encouraging cheating" by posting links. What will I get for posting CS 1.4 info? Visitors.

The only purpose for the NDA that i can see is to protect the new Anti Cheat system from those damn b*****$ who write cheats, i really don't see the harm in anyone knowing the accuracy of spud gun A or the effects of backflipping off map B - this sort of information was reported for all the releases of CS that i remember anyway, and the world didn't end for the persons involved in those info leaks as far as i remember

I suppose at worst you might encourage some nieve little tester to unwittingly hand over their copy to some unscrupolous haX0r, but they'd most probably do it anyway...
