I only use the glock and the only way that I can live is by jumping towards my Colt Wielding opponent by zig zag jumping TOWARDS THEM.
jasinner I think this is EXACTLY what everyone is getting at. That kind of tactic is completely unrealistic...you would NEVER EVER see a member of Seal Team-7 do anything even remotely approaching something that foolish. (not to mention [at least in my opinioni] that's rather foolish in CS if all you have is the T pistol...) You can most definitely have fun with CS while eliminating some of the cheezy and stupid things like bunny hopping around like an idiot to avoid being shot.
And realism is good right, isn't that the whole angle of cs in lieu of quake and its succes in its type of fps..?
This has been said many times but let's say it again in another attempt to get through to people: If you want crazyass deathmatch, GO PLAY QUAKE!!! But if you want a realistic game that requires some mental effort as opposed to pure reflexes and some skill, that's what CS is about. Some of the CS vets have (rightly) complained that so much of CS is about Deathmatch these days, which I feel is a sad decline in the game. Oh well, if we don't like the changes in 1.4, all of us are free to go play something we like more.

Finally, though, Expressing your opinions is one thing, but going on and on about your dislike for an already eminitely clarified and highly-central aspect of CS is pointless when you've made a choice to play when informed of that aspect.

Dude, why be happy that the game is about to be more slow paced? The game will potentially become so slow that people might as well just turn off their brains anyways. Mental effort, phbbbbtttt. You hear, somebody, you run, you shoot, you guess where they will be. If everybody will no be pretty much sitting still because movement is gay, I say just turn the game off. Sitting around takes little to no skill. Camping is necessary at times but it doesn't require a genius. Stop patting yourselves on the back.

I'm happy b/c I enjoy slow games that take thought, as do many people. It seems to me that many games today are based on an instant-gratification fast-paced schema that, in the end, leads to a rapid loss of interest as well as less long-term enjoyment, in addition to a small amount of reward due to the utilization of a minor area of your total abilities as a human. Dumb and fast, that's all people want today and I think it's stupid.

By the way, I don't think you jump around the map 100% of the time. There are such things as running and even -gasp- walking in CS. If you think that the entire movement system in CS is based upon jumping then I strongly suggest you get some more exp. Watch the demos of X3 vs NiP and see how they play. They may jump here and there but it's not when they're outside of cover or at the critical points in their manuvering.

Dumb and fast, please. All it will be now is dumb and slow. It doesn't take somebody with a 180 iq to play this game. Please notice that they don't use counter-strike as part of the entrance exame to mensa.

Uhh, exactly. I am not advocating the usage of quake3. I am just saying that regardless of which game it is or what they add or subtract from it, it doesn't take a genius to play. My dog could probably play counter strike if he had an opposible thumb, the question is, would he want to if jumping was contstrained to how it is in real life? CS has balanced on the thin edge between point and click deathmath and terribly slow realism for a long time now. I wonder why they chose this release to slide the game towards the terribly slow realism?

oh please, you all talk about realism, and saying that hopping around ruins the game..... let me ask you... does getting hit 40 times in the chest sound realistic? its not, if you want realism, go play day of defeat, look at the statistics, how many people play "realistic" day of defeat, and how many play "not-so-realistic" counterstrike... i tihnk people would rather enjoy bringing back 1.1, that was jamazing, and also, for whoever said its unrealistic to see some guy with a glock take out a person with a colt, well... if you are taken out with a glock, thats pathetic, you should just stop playing, and for whoever killed him, mozeltof... youjust glocked someone, enjoy

I signed up for it as well, and I got the e-mail. And I typed in a valid e-mail address (hotmail). And I did not get it (yes I check my junk mail - what day was the e-mail sent?).

I will have to tend to agree, I've had the luxary of being in a big ass clan tournament (Recon 2000) anyone who jumps around like a rabbit gets blasted in the head on LAN.

It's alright to jump around to gain a little speed around ledges, or off ledges, but if you get hit in the air with a USP you'll stop dead in your tracks. I've seen it happen before, and my clan even sets people up on lan like that =\.

How many SWAT teams do you see jumping around and making loud sounds?

Of course CS isn't as realistic as DoD or RTCW, but it's made for tactics, and as long as your not cheating, or taking advantage of a bug, it's all some sort of tactic.

Face it people, camping is a tactic.

Recon 2000, clan uH vs clan SUPER, 38 HP I had to camp under the "bridge" in dust to take out all of clan SUPER with a USP and a TMP... nothing better than good old USP juggling!

Amen BlackCat the usp is deadly. As for the TMP i'm surprised u bought it in a clan match. . . As fun at that must have been I must suggest people watch the demo of the SOA v. NiP match in this year's cpl. NiP-Christianssen (HeatOn) took out all 5 SoA guys in one of the rounds on aztec. He took out 2 with a usp, grabbed an AK, and killed a third. Then ran up the ramp to bombsite A and killed two guys in sucession - both as they ducked behind crates or a wall, both with headshots through the crate or the wall (this was done with about 12 bullets). It's really an amazing round. Not sure what is HP were because it was a damn HLTV dem not a POV.

jasinner, what are you gonna do now that you aren't gonna play CS?

What? You're still gonna play? Suprising...

I would have to agree with people like Half-Pint as teamwork is suppose to be the main objective in the game. It is why i bought the game, to have a simulation of a type of "SWAT" game where teamwork is reqiured. The voice commands: 'stick together team!' & 'storm the front team' are good examples of teamwork because they are addressed to the TEAM. When an individual departs his team and starts to jump around, ending up killing the enemies with a deagle and knife...it sorta defeats the purpose in counter-strike...(in my opinion). So the new anti-bunnyhopping input in 1.4 is good. CS is a perfect blend of realism and DM.

I've seen NiP play before, they are very good... but nobody is unbeatable , there are alot of CS players out there that can't afford to fly out to every CPL match there is.

What I like about NiP is they don't claim they are unbeatable... if we had some 11 year olds that won a mini-lan party they would claim they were unbeatable, then when you beat them, they would claim your cheating. (I had this happen at a local lan party, we went to this thing for the first time... and this clan of 11 - 13 year olds always won, we went and ripped them up the first brackets =), they made the officals go through our computers and make sure we weren't cheating.

And I didn't buy the TMP , one of my guys did... which is probably why he died. I just picked it up and used it... TMP isn't a bad weapon, if you know how to use it =).

We just have to deal with it, CS is going to change... although I do think the jumping thing will probably be a bitch to get used to... it's not going to make the game unplayable, and if any of you ever seen LAN play... there aren't many people that jump around. On the internet it's one thing, LAN is where it counts... which is a whole another thing.
