Limited jumping...we'll have to see. I would guess there will be more sniping, since jumping is a good way to dodge snipers...I don't think I like that.

I don't think realism is a goal in and of itself. The game is supposed to "feel" real and be fun, but realism is not always great. (If the CT's could pick up the bomb, de maps would be kinda silly).

Oh come on! It's a part of C-S that people jump around a lot! I think it's pretty cool that you can jump out of an opening and place a few good pistol-shots! (If you shoot a rifle you have to be damn lucky to hit anything though...) It's CINEMATIC, not realistic, I know - but C-S isn't realistic!!! Was it ever intended to be so? Let people jump around as much as they like! You have to be pretty good/lucky to hit with every shot anyway if you jump around...

Introducing STAMINA would ruin some of the fun in the game... Go play Rainbow Six or something like that if you don't like a CINEMATIC game... C-S is FUN FRAGGIN', it should stay like that!

Realistic, cinematic, hey, we're not watching a movie here guys! I know some people in the comunity don't mind the deathmatch qualities that are still a part of cs, but having played since beta 1 and reading way too many interviews with Gooseman, our opinion doesn't really matter. We are injoying prob the most successfull multiplayer game ever (at least it seems that way) because of Minh's vision of what would be fun for him, not us. Sure we have some influence but it's his concept that has us all wound up like a crack whore waiting for the next hit! You think it's fun to hop around like a bunny on crank and shoot people, maybe your hayday is over. But, no matter what I trust what Minh has in store for us, and if doesn't pan out he'll prob take it out later. My guess is that it will take some of the least desirable players out (they'll prob go back to Unreal or Quake, or maybe straight HL deathmatch) which is fine by me. Add to that (hopefully) an anti-cheat system that will ruin the game for the multitude of cheaters/hackers that I encounter almost every time I play. Combine the two and we'll be left with a solid core of players who can finally enjoy some excellent gamage without a lot of the headaches.

if the jumping is really like how all these people say it is, half of all the servers will just start awping, and the game is dead, i think valve has no sense at all doing this, they should have left it at 1.1 and just made the lag issues better and enabled bunnyhopping again, thats what made the game fun

Yeah, I have to say that I like the ability to jump around like a monkey because its the only good way to kill people that are shooting you with machine guns and rifles if you are using a handgun. Limiting the jumping ability will make hanguns virtually useless except when you run out of primary weapon ammo. Booo.

Um, its called cover. In real life when you get shot you seek cover. If jumping was made less prevalent players would be forced to make more cautious approaches, cover each other and stay behind objects...hmm that might mean tactics.

Half Pint is correct. Bunny hopping was simply a way out of having to use REAL tactics. Sure, being able to hop out of a doorway and while in midair, plant two lead seeds in your enemy's eye sockets is a skill that requires practice to get good at, but on the same token, effectively using a grappling hook to swing around Quake and not get killed is a skill. This isnt Quake. Just because you WANNA bunny hop doesn't mean it's needed.

Time for you all to learn a new skill.

                          mm, tactics

what's this OpenGL "fog" thing I was reading about on the Day of Deafeat website the other day? That new or something?

Here's a quote from the day of defeat 2.0 manual (on dayofdefeatmod.com):
New Fog System - 2 versions, the Valve version of OpenGL, and then the plain OpenGL version. cl_fog (1 = opengl, 2 = valve). You can set the color of it with (cl_fog_red, cl_fog_green, cl_fog_blue) give those a RGB value, default is 192 for each (grey). cl_fog_start is used to show where the fog starts in relation to your view point, cl_fog_end is the ending point for it in relation to your view as well. Fog is completely optional - no player will be forced to use it, as it limits your view. Simply an 'eye candy' feature for now.

JUMPING = LACK OF TACTICS and TACTICS = NO JUMPING? No way... Jumping is primarily used as a defense or a defensive attack (lol), I'd say... Just because you use jumping in your moving around the map doesn't mean you haven't got any tactics. Many people who don't jump also don't have any real tactics...

This is the way it's played, jumping around. If it's changed - the game will change. I think the ones who say "for the better" are the ones who really never got into that jumping... perhaps? I didn't jump at first at all too... But it helps, and you can pull off some crazy shit if you do it. Which makes the game fun... I never jump vs. snipers, though, cause they just aim where you're gonna land, and you're dead. It will be easier to cover corners now, probably, cause if people just pop out - you know where to shoot. And if people jump out, they slow down - and you'll know where to shoot. That kinda ruins a DE-JUMP-surprise attack.

Exactly. I only use the glock and the only way that I can live is by jumping towards my Colt Wielding opponent by zig zag jumping TOWARDS THEM. Messing with the jumping is going to cause a sever increase in camping by people with some of the "crappier" guns because they are going to have to just wait for somebody to walk by them to attack which, while making it more realistic I guess (if realism means being a scared little boy), will lead to extreme camping. I guarentee it. And we all know how fun that is. Valve needs to decide between fun and realism because the two are not completely compatible.
