I don't think it's been officially decided yet, but we're talking about Valve here so you'll probably get it for free (depending on which version of HL2 you buy I guess).
you COULD argue that because it's valve, they will charge ...I'm not a valve basher however, so I'm keeping my hopes up

Valve really needs to shut down WON and integrate the CZ multiplayer code into CS 1.6 before CSS becomes available. This will take 3 groups, and turn it into one. Then you have the next-gen engine, versus the current one, and 2 neat groups emerge; at least, until CS2 comes out, which will create the same mess, but let's ignore that for now.
      Yeah, I totally agree.

Also, since 1.6 is Steam, which can be updated incrementally, does that mean there will never be 1.7?

I doubt it will split the community again. I have a feeling that once they port all of the HL1 content to the HL2 source engine the traditional CS + other HL1 games will be slowly phased out of the steam network. That is of course, if the ported verions of the HL1 content actually do well enough to warrant the phasing out of the original HL1 content.

I have a feeling with all the probablems Valve has had with HL2 and this stuff, that they are not going to try and force people into buying a bunch of stuff. I say 60.00-70.00 for everything, make everyone happy... Hell I would pay 100.00 for it all :)

it's going to be weird with cs 1.6 and cs source. i think it's going to split community.
you know what? Screw the community. I don't care if 5000 ppl play CS source at any one time compared to the 100 000 that play it now. Its about time that CS came into the 21st century. If anything it'll bring MORE ppl, since HL2 will be incredibly popular anyway

I'm not sure about "screw the community", but yes, at the end of the day, CS cannot continue in its present form for much longer, CZ is essentially a nice little graphix patch, source has gotta come to bring the franchise up to date.

We're going to stop this "outstanding" thing now. Thanks.
(((((( you party pooper. running gags are the life blood of the community, fatso.

I am concerned about the source engine's netcode. You have all these crazy details and physics and what not, but will that consume alot of bandwidth? I don't want my ping to soar up 100ms when it's only like 8 people in a server. A few examples of this would be early versions of bf1942 and Natural Selection.

i never said it was a bad thing though. heh. valve should just give cs source out as a free upgrade to everybody that has a cd key. if you have hl, you should be able to dl cs source. if you have cz, you should be able to dl it for free too. it would be a good way to advertise hl2 by showing off the capibilities of the source engine. that way, cs, dod, and etc. can be on the source engine without splitting the community.

Yeah, I'm very iffy about this too. One of the main reasons CS is so popular is because of it's practically flawless netcode and thus smooth gameplay. But with physics, vehicles and all of the new stuff? We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Have they said anything about the netcode yet? Or are they keeping it under-raps? I thought I heard something like they're using CS's netcode. But can a 5 year old netcode handle all of these new features?

I thought thered be 3 versions of HL2, one just single player, one with single and multiplayer, and one with behind the scenes crap. I think the one with single and multiplayer is what they mean by itll cost extra. Maybe?

Word on the street is that CS:S will be available for separate purchase concurrent with HL 2's release. It would be cool if the special edition (of HL 2) included CS:S and the other source conversions.

Yes that would be nice. O by the way on that ping issue. If anyone has played UT2004, FarCry or Painkiller you would know that the multiplayer engine does have fixes to the ping issues. Yes the ping might be a little different, but I think in due time of testing after a good solid month of getting everything to work correctly, Valve will fix any Ping, Xms issues, and other stuff. And if Valve is going to make me pay for to just play CS:S HL:S and other stuff, I say the hell with them. I think we are paying enough just as is for HL2... If they want another 20.00-30.00 out of my they can sue my white freaking ass for their games. That is why I hate our socity. Damn capilists and their ways. Why can't we bring around a time of Marxism ^^:) Power to Commies :)
