Sikki, to bad every game Blizzard creates has records. Also, HL won because there were no other FPS released in 1998. VALVe is not the brightest of companies, otherwise they would have released a new game of it own creation instead of buying off one and nerfing it to hell. Also, if it wasn't for Quake2's engine, VALVe wouldn't have been able to make the game, so ppl need to stop saying "HL engine" and say something like "Quake2 Modded Engine" or so.

Lastly, from my readings, I've noticed that every game Blizzard creates is rated lower than expected because they expected MORE, unlike VALVe would they expected very little. In 1998, when HL came out, I got it THAT day thinking "Man, this game might own." and it straight up sucked, so I let my friends borrow it and see if they wanted it, same result, they thought it sucked. The only game VALVe has that makes HL worth anything is CS and the other mods. HL lives off mods, not something to be proud of.

I'm sorry if you can't except my views toward that company you believe is good, but everyone knows that without CS, VALVe has nothing. 6million users in the past 4 yrs compared to 6 million in 3 months.

Whops, forgot, SC is still one of the top 10 sellers per year. :)
Modified Quake engine, not Quake 2 fuck you very much. That expectations bit about VALVe and Blizzard was worth a laugh. It's also obvious how much Half-Life sucked because you and your friends didn't like it. As for the 6 million users in 4 years compared to the 6 million in 3 months, I think you might be getting your info mixed. Maybe the 6 million in 3 months is total amount of connections (or auth's by battle.net or whatever, I dont play SC) compared to the 6 million individuals that have played CS in the past 4 years? Someone please inform me on the last bit.

Future of CS is going downhill. Thanks to valve. And the kids these days are going to know nothing but death and violence.

Why do I say that? Because I already am one of those kinds of people. I'm 20 years old, been playing CS since 6.5. But I have members in my clan younger then what they're even supposed to be allowed to play this game. It shows right on the CD and M rating. M meaning mature. HA how many mature CS players do you find out there??!?!?!

Here are some examples... "OMG YOU FUCKING CHEATER YOU SUCK OMGOMGOMG.... BUNNY HOPPER OMG YOU SUCK YOU GOTTA BUNNY HOP..... Lack of team work in the game in the first place, Admin power abuse, The Bragging, Spam, and the 1337 talk that doesn't make any sense most the time.

Do you realize most of the changes from 1.0 and up have been a result of the little kids whining?

But there's where the market is right valve?

These kids have no respect for life. And don't tell me they do, half the younger amount of CS players I know and seen play. Want to kill everything.

And when girls play... any little amount of maturity that is in a server goes right out the door, because when someone finds out a girls playing it comes down to.... A guys pathetic attempt to hook up with them, and if that doesn't work then the girl has to be fat or ugly to be playing CS in the first place.

That shit makes me sick. So I love it when girls kick guy's asses in CS.

There is one thing though and I heard this someone else before, and believe it to be true, is that younger kids that play CS seem to react faster then older people. I can say that is true because my dad is slow as hell. And a few years ago I used to be really good. Today I'm ok, still considered a good player. But I'm tried of CS. Because of the changes and the people that play it.

But is it right? I'll tell you one thing whenever I have kids, they won't be playing any of the M rated games until they are old enough to buy it themselves.

My younger brother thinks he's god's gift to CS. Yeah he's good. He has his own server. But guess what? I hate playing with him, and don't play on his server. He talks way to fucking much. And brags when he kills people "You suck haha." And then whines when he dies... Every fucking time, and you see that a lot of places you play.

So, that is why I say this game is going down hill. And please, no little kids reply to me trying to argue against me, it will be pointless.

I agree with Overkill. I'm a long time friend of his and weve grown together through Counter-Strike. I admit everyone has there "childish" moments.

But the fact is that there are too many "Little" kids that come into the server and act like they own everyone until they die. Thats when the "Legacy you hacker!" crap comes out.

To many times have I gone to servers where i've been banned because I get so many headshots cuase they stand still and spray. I'm not saying i'm a super good counter-strike player cause there is always somebody out there that can kick your ass. This apply's to everyone. Not just little kids.

I believe that the direction this game is going is somewhat "retarded" as a little kid might put it. I think valve needs to talk to the more serious players that really want to help the game. Not make it more appealing to little kids who just want to talk some shit when they would never even swear if their parents were home.

        Nuff' Said.

Was the Quake2 engine sorry to say. Also, it's 6 million unique CDkeys, not total logs, every minute on b.net, at least 120,000 ppl are playing. Also, I used my friends as an example, seeing how most of my friends play FPS like Doom, Duke, Unreal, Quake, and yes, even CS.

There's also something about this whole VAC that makes me laugh, it's the fact it took THAT long to finally put it in, when you would of thought they would have anti-cheats when CS when n00b Retail.

Hmmmm unless ive been reading and hearing bullshit for the past 3 years, Half-Life is based on the Quake engine. The similarities between the 2 games is also striking, whereas Quake 2 is entirely different. Will someone besides lopinboy chime in on who is right? I could care less about being right, I just want to know what is the truth.

Read the graphics part. It explains there. I didn't expect very many ppl to know that it was on the Quake2 engine, seeing as the tragedy VALVe has caused by making CS Retail and ppl not knowing anything about HL.

(Btw, I really don't hate HL as much as it seems, I just hate VALVe, but I do hate HL overall because it claims to much and doesn't give props to its predicessors. I like dm FPS (and teamplay) but not storyline unless its like a Tom Clancy, but those aren't story line.)

^ n00b, otherwise he would know that if SOF2 hit it big for multiplayer, it would have cheats just as bad as CS, but the developers might try to fix them earlier.

Btw Shag, what's your wonid? What is the original name used in CS for the Artic Warfare Magnum? Any nonn00b knows these.

Anyways, why did that article even compare an RPG to an FPS? Thats retarded.

I have on very good authority that, technically, it's the Quake engine base with some Quake2 enhancements. Valve had access to both technologies when they licensed the Quake engine, and simply implemented many Quake2 components into it.

Still today you can see many of the more technical aspects from Quake if you compare the mapping side of it (no 'surface properties' from Quake2 is one example), and engine features from Quake2 (such as the skybox, and model animation interpolation - but both could have been created in-house anyway).

I've updated our Next Version Info page with some Counter-Strike Source information. Also, the Counter-Strike Source player models remind me of the older beta models in the way they run and hold their weapons, just saying.

                            The Future of Counter-Strike

Halflife.org has posted an interesting article concerning The Future of Counter-Strike. Here's a small preview of the detailed article:
But what happens when you find a product, which in the last 4 (four) years, where the number of people using it gets to over 6 million? This is an amazingly long time and an absolutely immense number of people. Especially when you consider all the rival games like Quake, Unreal Tournament, Wolfenstein, Delta Force 2, Every RPG game, etc, etc. What has given it the ability to stand the test of time?
The article is well written and deserves a look. Pass by Halflife.org and check it out.

I think it's cool (the models). But it's hard to tell with the low quality videos floating out there.
