Shield = bad idea, especially for clan matches.

            Why?

The Five-Seven already costs $750... how much more will the shield be? Most likely... a lot. There's no way any clan would waste that much money on something that doesn't provide firepower. (Firepower as in actual stopping power, which the 5-7 does not have.) You can buy a Deagle for less and have a better chance of actually killing something. Not to mention that you will probably move slower and your field of vision will be reduced when you have the shield. Excellent idea when you're in a clan match, being slow and blind... When you only have 5 guys to a team, hampering one with a useless weapon and "SUPER ARMOR PROTECTIVE SHIELD OF GOODNESS" (that will most likely cost more than elites) isn't exactly a smart thing to do.

It seems more like a novelty more than anything.

About damn time.. In either way, there's already a great Galil skin for the AK - Wonder what took so long for Gooseman to recognise it existed =\

So the shield is effective at stopping the weapons that few people use now anyway because they are underpowered compared to the all-powerful AK, M4A1 and the AWM. Also, it and the new cheaper FAMAS rifle for the cts means that Ts are probably gonna get even more screwed on DE maps.

On the server I play, so few people even bother to play on the assaulting teams anymore. Now they are giving CT defenders an extra advantage against cash-poor losing T teams. The problem is that the maps weren't made with this stuff in mind. If you add smoke and gas grenades, then you're going to have to reconfigure the maps to balance them or restrict the weapons. Frankly, I am sick of only seeing M4, AK and AWM. I try to use SMGs (esp. MP5, TMP, P90) and the M3 but how often do you see someone use the M3 anymore?
See, that's the thing. The shield should be an accessory, like the vest and helmet are, but it would be obviously overpowered to the point of making the MP5 and the like more useless than they already are. The only feasible way to balance such an item is to make it usable ONLY with a weak weapon, which makes it pointless to buy in the first place. Valve/gearbox have caught on to this. What they haven't caught on to is that it makes it pointless to buy in the first place. Basically, anyone who buys the shield ingame is going to be a needlessly annoying-to-kill sitting duck and that's about it.

As for the other 2 weapons: are they going to fix the dominance of the AK and M4? Only if they're more powerful/accurate, which can only be thought of as a half-assed "fix". Are they going to make the TMP, UMP, G3, or mac10 any more useful? Nope. At this point, the only thing we have reason to believe is that they're just adding stuff at random. In a few months time, i'd fully expect CS to ironically be a clone of mods like FLF and FireArms; Plenty of weapons that were added without considering if they'd actually be useful.

Glad to have this site loading again... rizzuh, you trying to make us feel lonely like you?

Why is it that so many people don't seem to pay attention to what the assault rifles being added really are? Most of what I've been hearing over this thread is either "yay, new guns!" or "wtf?!? The CT's are gonna dominate if they have a $2500 rifle!"

Take a look at the two weapons being added.

The Galil. Yeah, it LOOKS somewhat similar to the AK47. $200 bucks more, and you get greater stability in firing. However, you also lose the almighty 7.62mm ammo, and instead end up shooting 5.56mm, just like every single other assault rifle in CS. (Yes, some variety would have been nice). Who would have thought that you'd get less recoil with a much smaller round? Wow, isn't that incredible, say it isn't so!

If your aim is up to CAL standards, then the AK47 is still going to dominate, as you can usually down an enemy with 2-3 shots with the 7.62 ammo (which is about the limit before recoil becomes excessive). For average CS players, it'll be a nice compromise between the cost of the AK47, and the stability and ease of use of the SG552. Granted, I think it should be more like $3000, assuming that it's somewhere near, but not up to, the ease of use of the M4A1.

The FAMAS. Who wants to bet that this sucker loses accuracy in full auto a lot faster than the M4A1 does? I'm really curious to see how accurate they make the 3-round burst mode, as this could potentially be deadly, or worthless. Kind of like 3-round burst on the glock... much more useful in some situations (if your aim is good) for a quick triple-headshot, but worthless at a distance. Even among the 5.56mm rifles, there's some varience in power in-game, and chances are this won't quite match the M4A1 in this regard either. Plus (if you like it), no silencer.

Point being... these weapons are different prices, and the reasons for those different prices will be shown in their performance. Seriously, if they're releasing a beta every 3 days, I think that will give them ample opportunity to tweak the weapon balance beyond what they're sure to do in-house.

The Shield. Yeah, we all want it to be cool, but in reality, chances are it'll suck, as honestly two people with assault rifles pointed the same way are more deadly than one guy with an assault rifle cowering behind a pistol weilding movable obstacle, which blocks his own line of fire just as effectively as it does the enemy's. One of those things you'll get to goof around with when you're in a wacky mood, not a serious element... kind of like the elites.

The shield would be cool in CS:CZ, though, where you could just set up a scenario where the terrorists are a bunch of pistol-weilding psychos with maybe a SMG or two among them, no assault rifles. Suddenly it would make sense to use it, as you'd be practically invulnerable (as riot police typically are), and it'd let you enter into areas without your team getting gunned down in the doorway.

And yes, the 5-7 does suck. Sure, you can kill with it, but the same goes for any other weapon you "know how to use" correctly or whatever. It's just that other weapons can kill faster, more easily, and at a lesser cost. IMHO, the 5-7 should have been what the CT's spawned with, so they didn't by default have such an advantage over the glock-weilding T's. (The 5-7 is to the glock much what the P228 is to the USP -- better against armor).

But hey, 2 decent additions out of 3 ain't bad at all. Now I'm just hoping that eventually the M60 does get added to multiplayer, but who knows. (Not to be Rambo, heh, but just as an alternative to the rather ineffective M249). As it is, these two weapons seem to fit niches in the assault rifle category that were rather widely separated before. I know I'm looking forward to trying them out. :)

I wonder...when a player has a shield equipped, will it be possible to toss 'nades over it, or will the person behind them have to do that? I could see shots ricocheting off the shield disrupting the holder's grip on it, but perhaps they could take that risk...

I think the FAMAS is great: the Ts have too big an advantage with the cost of the AK.

when Ts are the losing team they can still buy it just about every round, CT's cant do that with the m4.

Am not sure what to think about the GALIL. I'll have to see it in action.

If the shield can still protect you well from the riffles, it will be good to give a cover spot for your team-mates

Eric said that cz mulitplayer will be identicle to cs, what about the maps? Sure, you will be able to load up a cs map in cz, but i doubt its gonna work the other way around.

Shield sounds like a gimic to me. Strafing left-right quicky with the de can kill an armoured player very quicky whilst still avoiding serious damage.

Actually, the Israeli sepcial forces use the M4, the Micro Uzi, the Galil (and a version that can be fitted with a scope and a tripod), and a few different handguns. What I am saying is: Sure, the European counter-terrorist teams are good, but they don't see action everyday like the Israelis do. They are probably the best in the world, with only the American Delta Force and the British SAS coming close.

Now, you racist, motherfucking, sonofabitch, your second paragragh shows how little you know about the Middle East. If your country is attacked almost daily by terrorists you'd do something about it. If children threw greandes at your soldiers you'd do something about it. If you were attacked by overwhelming odds (1949, 63, 72, and so on) for no other reason than "because you are Jews and we are Muslims" you would do something about it. The Israelis have an excellent military, if they wanted to, they could kill every Palestinian there was and begin taking over Jordar and Syria within a week. But they don't, and unlike the terrorists, they don't sprinkle rat poison on shraonel, put it in a bomb, and blow it up on a city bus. I take offense from waht you say, but not very much because you have no idea what you are talking about.
