If you're stupid enough to think that an executable was made for one map then you deserve to fucking get a virus. And you shouldn't be running an IRC channel.

a lot of maps come on self installing executables. but anyone who just runs a random exe off IRC that prolly came through a DCC with the message "Hi this is the new aztec plz enjoy thx" is a fewlio.

In other news, a binary executable file claiming to have pornographic pictures of John 'rizzuh' Jensen's cat "scout" is making it's way around Internet forums and other online communities. Symantic Research is calling this worm "W32.1337.Scout.Action@mm" and is giving it a severity rating of 1.

The mass mailing worm, which has quickly spread over John Jensen's semi-professional website, [link omitted], is causing mass hysteria. This trojan first introduces the infected system to a buggy key logger. Instead of recording keystrokes to gain passwords, the key logger changes certain typed phrases, including changing "please" to "plz", "thanks" to "thx", and "Internet" to "INTERWEB" among others. Further code analysis suggests this virus will steal the owner's girlfriend. However, no cases of this have been reported. (For the tech savvy, it gives a '#DIV BY 0' error in almost every case.)

Symantic urges all computer users to buy Norton Antivirus, and always practice safe computing.

Ok I have to wonder why are some people stupid enough to download a file in a IRC channel to begin with? It's the same practice with email's, if you weren't expecting a file from anyone, be IMMEDIATELY suspicious.

I sure as hell wouldn't download a "supposedly" new map update because someone's trying to tell me too on IRC. If I want maps for something I go to official map sites for CS/TFC etc.

Finally, like spoonman said, that's why we use Gamesnet anyway! It's why my clan has a IRC channel on Gamesnet, along with a *LARGE* majority of other clans/groups/guild's etcera.

            About IRC networks:

QuakeNet sucks, because this kind of virus things spread there. Ban thee!

IRCnet sucks, because a bit different virus things spread there. Ban thee!

DALnet sucks, because virus things spread also there (and you even have to register to get the full advantage). Ban thee!

Gamesnet sucks, because there are also some lamers who spread virus things. Ban thee!

EfNet sucks, because there is also viruses. Ban, ban, ban thee-ee!

(those are not my opinions, try reading between the lines)

Wrong. Right now, Quakenet is the biggest IRC network in the world and has almost 5 times as many users (average) as Gamesnet which is on 9th place.

Heh Dalnet is pure shit. Whoever made that network is probably very sad to see whats happend to it. Didn't Dalnet start out as like some sorta trekkie network or something? Yuh then all the IRC newbies get thrown in there and they prolly eventually learned from trekkies how to op a chan. Then they made stupid channels with teen in their name and the newer newbies decided to stay... Then along come the pedophiles from some foreign country looking for preteens. Yep... I'm glad my occasional use of IRC got me banned from Dalnet because then I found out IRC had a use by going on good networks with ppl that knew stuff.
