WCG Update

The World Cyber Games is competing in Korea as we speak, and I thought I'd stop by and post some updates. In 3D news, 3D lost their first match to the Hungarian team FoP 11-13 on de_prodigy, and just defeated the Korean team 1v1 18-6 on de_cbble. Defending WCG CS champions LnD (Legends never Die) tied the Koreans 12-12 on de_prodigy and will be facing 3D shortly. It's important to note that in WCG there are no overtimes, and that things are decided via pool play. 3D and LnD are in perhaps the toughest pool, with notable teams being 3D, LnD, and Sweden's representative A-Laget. For those of you unfamiliar with pool play, a group of teams all face each other and the top two teams advance to double elimination brackets. For a pool play listing, click here. In other WCG news, defending Quake 3 Champion and, incidentally, American ZeRo4 was knocked out of the Quake 3 tournament in the pool play before even making it out. Controversially enough, russian Q3 player cooller is claiming that he threw his match vs radic so radic would have a better record than ZeRo4 and thus, not allow ZeRo4 to move on. Although this is not counter-strike news, I felt it was an interesting enough eSports newsbit to show how unsportsmanlike some players can be, especially since the defending champion was knocked out so early.



In unrelated news, I myself am about to go compete in Georgia's One Act play competition for my school's region, where only 1 in 6 of the schools will move on to state competition. We won sub-region last saturday, so I'm looking forward to today's competition; for those who don't know, I'm a theatre major and thespian (meaning actor), and that's what has been eating away my time lately. I've had nothing but shows and rehearsals the past 2 months straight. Wish me luck today!

i don't see how you say that is unsportsmanlike. It's part of the tactics. Of course it's good if one of your toughest enemies is eliminated already in the group play. They are playing for money down there.. and honor

I hear americans are making some appeal to it which is pathetic. If zero4 wanted to continue he should have beat cooller in the first place :) Also i hear Daler got dominated :)



And for 3D losing to FoP... lol! FoP lost their next match to A-Laget 3-21 so good luck to 3D in WCG, they wont have a chance vs A-Laget & Mouzesports & M19

Very interesting news, and wonderful to hear a pro tactic in gaming. In International club football, and in all paid sports, the aim fo the game is to win overall, and maximise earning potential. So I agree with xredibility. Par example In the Champiions League many teams field weakened sides when results dont matter, adn have in some circumstances allowed much lesser teams to win in order to stop helping a better side thru to the next round. A classic example is the forthcoming Juventus vDynamo Kiev Game. If Dynamo draw or win they are thru. If they lose and Newcastle win (then provided Newcastle win their game which they will) then Newcastle will go thru. Obviously the proffesional sportsman would way up the opponenets in the next orunds and see a) who woudl they most like to meet again, or b) who has the liklier chance of knocking out any further enemies or threats along the way.



In unrelated news, my clan lost its first ever competitive game last night 23-1, but we are n00bs. I believe drage is competing in teh same tourney with fightclubclan and with much better results. GO fellow cs natioinalist!!so thanks to fcc silent bob for the following listings form last nights jolt 'amateur' tourney

we are in the loser bracket this evening, and it is nice to see that we werent the only terrible team on the night. All I can say is at least we took our ass whuppin like men (and a 13 yr old girl!!) and stayed for the whol match. Well done to WES our oponenets, who were well organised and much, much better than us!
