i do believe VALVe said that the beta testing period was supposed to last about 30 days and after that they will probably need months upon months to code all of the bug fixes.
As far as the questions about 1.6... this is the Steam Beta of CS1.6. That means that the official version remains CS1.5 while this beta test is running, and when the beta testing period is over (likely early February) then the official version changes to CS1.6, there's full normal installs released on the 'net, and CS:CZ is co-released.Comment

Erm CS 1.6 WILL not have the CZ engine, you will have to pay for that. The two will be compatible with each other tho.
CS 1.6 will not be released this year. (only as a beta) - my guess is that some stage in the beta... the valve guys will be playing CZ against us using 1.6steam beta to check the two do work properly together... hence it will be longer than the other beta...
The riot shield... we will have to see how it works... perhaps like the redfaction shield? will it block AWP fire or reduce it ? who knows... cpet valve..
and yes your english does suck :pComment

It was said that 1.6 would be released to the public soon after the 30-day beta test period was over, not months after the beta. So it could be that 1.6 will be released in mid-late December, before CZ is available on the shelves. They won't need months to code bug fixes, as they stated their goal with the Steam beta was to release a new beta update through Steam every 3 days. Also the final version of CS 1.6 for public use will be Steam only. There will be no more patch updates or full installation files to download. I'd assume all patches to CZ itself will also be through Steam.Comment

If only either of those statements were true... but they're not.
Cs 1.6 will include the "engine'' of CZ so...better graphic!!!
It will be probably release the 1st decembre after the beta test :SElectronic Punk wrote..
They've already stated the answer, and it's been covered in the comments several times. Weapons which normally penetrate walls will penetrate the shield (with reduced damage). Weapons that normally don't (normal pistols, smgs, shotguns) will be completely blocked.
A bunch of stuff that made sense, then...

If it wasn't for the fact that VALVe stated that CS1.6 and CS:CZ would be co-released, then that would make sense. But they did. And early February is not "months" after your predicted late December cutoff.

One thing I'm curious about, as far as the Steam release... since Steam itself is currently still in "beta" mode, will everyone involved in the Steam beta test automatically be boosted up to CS1.6, or will Steam feature both versions of CS? Seeing as no one has "purchased" CS over Steam yet, I would guess that they don't have any reason to leave CS1.5 on Steam. Also the final version of CS 1.6 for public use will be Steam only. There will still be patch updates and full installation files to download, IF YOU WANT. Everyone can still download CS the mod the same way we've always been doing. But, if you want, you can let Steam take care of all of that for you. You get the choice this way.
Steam will be required, but in its final form (in CS1.6) it meshes just fine with the normal downloaded version of CS, and lets you do things pretty much like you always have. You're not going to have to re-download all of CS over Steam, if you already have CS installed, when CS1.6 is released. For the beta test, however, you will d/l everything separately.Electronic Punk wrote..
It would honestly make a lot more sense for VALVe to hold off on the CS1.6 release until they can advertise that you can "Buy CS:CZ and be upgraded to CS1.6 with no downloading!" Honestly, the co-release just makes sense, as far as pushing CS:CZ as a product. If everyone is too lost in CS1.6 goodness to notice the release of CS:CZ, then VALVe has hurt its own business.
CS 1.6 will have to be out for a few weeks before CZ anyway... I don't wanna buy a game then realise I have to wait while CS 1.6 is made final...
1.6 will be sat comfortably in place and will be ready for CZ to arrive... or at least the 1.6+ will be
I'm not saying that it's impossible for them to change their mind and follow this course of action. I'm just saying that it's not what they stated they would do, and would be quite a blunder, financially speaking.
Oh, yes... one more thought. With the final release of Steam coming with CS1.6, we will theoretically be able to buy and/or subscribe to VALVe games with it if we choose to do so, right? With this in mind, anybody know if CS:CZ (the single player element) will be available for rent/purchase over Steam? For those who won't be seeing boxed copies of CS:CZ for quite a while after it's released, it'd be a nice alternative...Comment

Check the Next Version Info page, it states Steam will be the only way to download and play CS 1.6 and beyond. The point I guess is to get away from the patch and full install downloads completely, so the casual CS players who don't follow the updates won't be confused when CS stops working due to a new patch being released, or for the 56k players that need to spend hours downloading the updates manually. It'll be automatic with Steam. Also it should facilitate faster bug and cheat fixes getting to the clients.Comment

From the Next Version Info page...
"Steam will be the only way to play Counter-Strike 1.6 and beyond, we've been told. "
Yes, you have to have Steam to play. But it doesn't say anything about Steam being the only way to download the updates. It simply says that Steam will do it for you, if you haven't already done so.
You know... not that they'll do it like this... but wouldn't it be nice if Steam could download a patch a few days before it went live, ie, have a few days of downloading time where everyone could still play the old version of CS, but in the meantime give a few days for the servers to handle everyone downloading CS. After a few days, when most people have the necessary patch information on their hard drive, have Steam update everyone at the same time. It sure would solve some bandwidth issues when patches are released, and let a huge group migrate to the new version all at the same time.Comment
