LoL man, the HL engine is a modificated / enhanced Q2 engine, not Q1. I'm pretty sure about that. Well, of course, the Q2 engine itself might have been an improved Q1 engine, but that doesn't make HL based on Q1...
edit: oops!The Half-Life engine is based on the Quake/Quakeworld engine, not the Quake II engine .
(from a Gunman Chronicles page on www.gamers.com) Shame on me. But it also says:There are so many modifications on the code, however, that it's basically the Half-Life engine now.
