I recall seeing a video of Resident Evil scenes that went along with Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." Granted, that's probably the biggest irony you could do, but either some nice classical music or hippy peace songs would be really amusing while watching CS frags.



I dunno, maybe John Lennon's "Imagine" or some of the "all you need is love, love, love" type songs (Beatles?) Or of course, Vivaldi's Four Seasons or Mozart or some other classic instrumental type music.

The reason you arent seeing a difference in size is because just that: It does shit. If you want to lower quality of the video to decrease size, go to % based quality under divx settings. Lowering the resolution isnt too shabby an idea.. cuts off a few megs of unneeded space. I'll have to go home and test how much of a difference it makes when gonig to full screen though..



I'm glad someone actually posted a good video making guide now.. I've gotten so accustomed to seeing so many shitty ones that I actually expect a two paragraph one before I even open the webpage. Nice job on it, and I'm also glad you stressed the point about music and opinions, although I don't think you stressed enough the point about having a successful video also needs the music to go along with it..



BTW: Would you mind hosting a small 30 meg video? I'll let you use it as an example of how music should go well with the movie; I'm going to redo it this afternoon so its small size and better quality plus I need to fix one last clip at the end so that it fits perfectly with the music.. I'm hoping I can bring it down to a 7 to 12 meg movie (much like that really nice scout movie (btw, if that guy doesnt blue dot then I'm impressed; imho blue dot = cheat) :)

Ok about your compression... divx basically has an optimal compression range at 8-12 MB per minute. I think that translates from 1500kps to 2000kps on the "single pass" setting. Seriously... a 5MB movie that is 300 megs --- must leave the divx team scratching their heads why their wonderful compression technology isn't being used.

A 5 minute movie should be about 60-80MB at most, 640x480 at most. If you use mp3 audio encoding you can go even smaller. In fact, half of the movies released on CS-N have a fair amount of VIDEO compression, but the audio is terribly compressed or NOT compressed at all.

Yes Beacuse all you would need to do is run the svideo from your geforece 4 card (or any other card with svideo) capture the video, then edit... You can also do this on Sony Viaos.... But machines have all the plugs, and needed software. This way you don't need to go through the huge expense of converting demo's to movie files.

I made my movie quite sometime ago now, and since starting a new project yesterday I played around with DivX settings and found out how to do low & high quality which I'll add to the guide next week.



Also will be adding transition help.



Reason for next week is because I won't be here for 3 days (starting tomorrow). =(

yeah in short if you make your movie from a video capture source (ie video camera or that MAC idea mentioned): use 1000kps to 1500kps. If your source is a DEMO (BMPs) then use 1500kps to 2000kps to max quality. The reason is that video capture sources are not as high quality and therefore don't benefit from anything adove 1500kps on the whole.
