Development has dragged on a little too long, but at the end of the day, if the game is good i don't care. Everyone will forget the lengthy delays and development changes if they're having a laugh playing.

Of course, if they're not, THEN they'll remember all the time they wasted waiting, and return to throwing stones at Valve/Minh.

Either way, i don't play CS enough (twice a month?) to really care. Which begs the point, "Why are you posting then?"... Quite.

What sort of SP games have you been playing? Usually, having both hands on keyboard/mouse makes games more fun, unless it's one of those point'n'click adventures.

            Ahh, see your point. Gotcha.

Aw, hell, no wonder we haven't heard about CZ in a while. Suspended in July? COME F*CKIN ON! It's rediculous.

Interviews, screens, movies, ECTS, E3? All just a big hoax?

I sure HOPE VALVe isn't pulling my leg here, since I'm waiting for this game a while now and I'm not in the mood for smooth marketing. Aw hell, they're probably swimming in the dough they made with HL and every subsequent mod. Mooh.

And in case you haven't noticed, the official cs site hasn't updated since JULY as well. What a big F*CKING coincidence, unless cliffe died (and he hasn't).

If they want my money, Ritual better come up with something FAST because i'm getting tired of waiting.

                Seriously, he's right, people...

Many aspects of CS could not be made worse. Look at what has happened since 1.3 to 1.5. The popularity of this game is sustained by community momentum (which is a good thing) and laziness (which is bad but who cares).

ah sh!t....What if they redid the program and it ends up sucking? I saw the videos for CS:CZ and gearbox was in the zone. What happens if it all goes to hell? But what happens if they didnt start all over and made it better? We will just have to find out :-/

Does anybody what Gooseman is really working on? Does he still follow CS or what?
The speculation that Gooseman is working on CS2 was fueled by a news video that was released a while ago that commented that he was working on the "next version of Counter-Strike" and showed him modeling what appeared to be a H&K G36 assault rifle on his computer. Seeing as that gun isn't and hasn't been featured in any of the updates since the release of that video, and isn't planned for CS:CZ, then the natural speculation has been that the "next version" would equal "CS2" or something along those lines.

I call bullshit, unless i see a survey suggesting that this is true. It may have been during CS' earlier days, but right now we have a surplus of spoiled punks who think it's OK for a 4 year old engine to require a GF4/p4 combo. From everything i've seen, everyone and their brother evidently has a GF4, and a parent to buy it for them. CS also runs like ass on "older" machines when there are any more than 3 players in view. Worse if someone throws the ill-concieved smoke gren.

You know the scum that play on pubs. My theory is that if low-end hardware were so prevailant, we'd have 14 out of 18 players on EVERY server bitching about "Ohhhh, i wud fucking PWN j00 if i had more tahn 30fps, yuo hardware pussy!". Either a very significant number of people like wasting money on the card of the month, or the ones that do talk way too fucking much. I'm open to either possibility.
My thoughts on the "crappy integrated video" issue come from the people I know IRL that play CS. I've had the best video card out of the bunch with a GF2 for quite a while, until my old roommate got a GF4 4200. Aside from him, though, only one other guy has a dedicated 3D accelerator card (a Radeon 7000 budget card). The rest (quite a few) are playing on Compaqs and eMachines and HP's and the like that came with onboard video.

It's pretty pathetic, because when it comes down to it, just about every computer you can purchase in a local store (as a complete system) has integrated video. Lots of people play on their parent's family computer, which wasn't built to be a gaming rig. And yeah, they're getting 30fps most of the time at 800x600 at most, but they've played like that for so long that they don't expect better.

Yeah, I suppose it's not for sure that the group I know translates to everyone else in the CS playing world, but here's another thought. Chances are that the people who care enough to try to get better hardware for their computer to play CS at higher res/fps rates are the same people who care about CS enough to try to get involved in the community aspect, posting in comments and whatnot. Just a thought.
Except, NS is (miraculously) a playable game. For us to say that NS ripped off some of TF2s features, we'd have to go out on a limb and pretend for a moment that TF2 actually existed. In a nutshell, Valve just got their asses kicked by a mod team.
Heh, well, NS is well done (despite the bugs), though unfortunately can only do so much with the graphics engine available. I'll judge TF2 if and when it comes out, not a lot of point in trying to do so before that. I agree though that it's pretty dumb to try to say that NS ripped off of TF2, when TF2 doesn't exist as a game we can play.

I'm not nearly so jaded as you about CS, though, so there wouldn't be a lot of point in me trying to debate the current state of CS. Apparently a lot of people still like it, for one reason or another. Maybe it is just because we all have been playing it long enough that it's habit, but there's enough new people joining that it seems like there's more than that. We'll see how this all turns out in time, I guess.

This actually has been changing for a while. These days, even eMachines are at least 1ghz or more. Family computers bought during CS' explosion are beyond what a game on the HL engine should require. That last sentence does make some sense though. As far as i'm concerned, the people playing on their parents' machines can get screwed. I also think that those people are in the minority.

By all reasonable accounts, it seems more like the people who care enough to try to get better hardware for CS are playing more for money than anything else. I'd wager that most upgrades merely affect CS incidentally, due to the hardware needed for games like BF1942, wolfenstein, etc.. I could go off on a tangent about CS, but it's sufficient to say that CS alone does not warrant hardware purchases.

People can play with lower hardware, but they're either going to be appalled by the game's performance, or too dense to notice. The latter really don't know their head from their ass to begin with, so i see them more as the "fly by night" kind of players. Both remove the "low requirements" selling point, among other things.

The thing is that they DID do so much with the engine available.

Being jaded comes more from the fact that the issues are few, but huge and longstanding with no hope of improvement. They're perfectly debatable, really. For example, you don't have to be jaded to know that the only way to screw up the recoil system MORE would be to have the weapons simply blow up on firing. You just have to be jaded to say it like that.
