As long as when the game comes out, it's as good as Daikatana.

    Hehe.

At this rate, Blizzard could push StarCraft 2 out before we see CS:CZ. Seriously, why the hell is it being moved from Gearbox to Ritual? I mean, the game was already delayed as is, then I remember seeing a schedule January 03 release, now this?!

Why is the change only announced now even though Ritual took over the game in August?

Just to give a counter-argument to those 'Why the hell did Valve transfer CSCZ again?!' posts... Counter-Strike is a big game. Very popular. We all know that. It's a huge market, label even. Maybe 'license' is the correct word. It can't go from having a great game (as we have now), to having a SP version of lesser quality. That'd be a huge disappointment to all. I think Valve are just trying to avoid disappointment, which is very understandable. If it goes wrong, they could stand to lose a lot of money and respect...

Who knows, maybe no one can meet those expectations.

Latest (TF2-related) news on www.team-fortress2.com is from August 2000. Valves main project is still TF2 though, which they admit is extremely classified and 'hush-hush', probably because it will be ground-breaking somehow. Everything else, like HL- and CS updates and CS:CZ are just maintenance and side projects.

CS2 will use the TF2 engine, and perhaps it will even come as a mod for TF2. That way, Valve might be able to transfer its huge community over to TF2 when it is released.

OH MY! Ritual?!? The same people that put out Sin? Or perhaps they'd rather be known for the smash hit "Blair Witch 3" that no one has heard of. I had myself prepared for delays, but not this... not this.

Hey rouge knew what they where doing. Crossbows in CS? BRILLIANT!
Yeah, I have to admit I wasn't terribly excited about the initial concept for CS:CZ, with one exception, namely the Pancor Jackhammer. In defense of Rouge though, they were just coming out of development on Alice at that time (which was awesome, imho, showing that they're a decent developer), and evidently had a little too much fantasy on the brain.

In all honesty though, if they're giving it back to the people who wanted to add crossbows, do we even want to know what the hell Gearbox was going to do?
They're not. Sequence goes: Rogue, Gearbox, Ritual. Good company with bad ideas, fairly good company with better ideas, poor company with unknown ideas.

Okay, to be fair, we don't know if Ritual somehow figured out how to make a decent game since their flurry of failures. Let's hope they did. I suppose Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 wasn't a total failure, though I thought it sucked.

What i'm sure is that cz will have an outdated engine which is *yuck*

by then, and everybody will forget about it
Just like nobody places CS right now, because the Half-Life engine is outdated. You're brilliant.

Have you ever stopped to consider that a large percentage of the people currently playing CS are doing so on computers with integrated video? For the special ed kids here, this means they have no video card, just a crappy chipset on the motherboard with shared memory that is almost up to speed with the decent technology of several years ago, back when Half-Life was released. Their computers suck, so they play a fun game on an old engine that their computer can handle. Even if CS:CZ is delayed by quite a bit, it's the same type of situation.

                  That's a damn good question.

My only guess is that they either a) didn't want people to find out and freak out about how much longer the game would be delayed, or b) don't give a damn about any of us, don't care to give us any firm dates or real information that has anything to do with reality, and instead focus on PR. Beats me if VALVe would be making this decision, or Sierra above them.

Ah well, luckily my life doesn't revolve around when CS:CZ is released, or even what it's like, so I'm not terribly affected one way or another. Still, the idea of anything as precious as CS being in the hands of... Ritual... is somehow disturbing to me. There's developers that would have sounded worse though, I suppose.

Screw it, forget about CS:CZ, focuse on CS1.6! Think about it guys, we have only a mere week until CS1.6 beta is...

                  ...delayed again. :-/

Has it actually been said that there is another delay?

You see this change was made some months ago, before the announcement of 1.6 and Steam 2.0 by Valve. So they made that announcement in the knowledge that there had been some disruption from the change and announced it anyway...
