The single player game GEARBOX had in mind sounded like it would be the same single player Battlefield 1942 had. If you havent played BF1942 the single player was exactly like the multiplayer. So I think they canned gearbox in order to have a valid counterstrike single player game with more content and freshness. Look forward to something new Valve is competing with the line of new games coming out and trying not to be hindered by some game made in 1999. The reason Counterstrike is still around and valued today is becuase of 1 thing CONTENT. It's engine is old it's models are old but the content still cant be compared.
So with that being said Valve knows what makes counterstrike #1 in our hearts and Gearbox probaly couldnt grasp that. Or there is some way inside shit going on like they wanted a percentage of the profit that was too much blah blah blah.
So onto RITUAL basically a small unheard of company that would settle for less or no percentage and would just be Valves workers and not a creative side adversary. Only implementing the ideas valve has intended instead of coming up with ideas on their own.
I think CZ is on track and should be able to " Hang " with some of the newer games coming out minus Unreal 2 and Doom 3 becuase lets face it Grapically they are gonna own any 1999 technology and we are gonna need a big hardware upgrade for those 2 games.Comment

Same guns, same abilities... just more of them. I like that idea. It'll be fresh and new and exciting and different, and not just like a series of matches against bots on various 'missions'...
CZ is going to be terrible now. It's gonna be only a little bit like cs now that they are doing thisGatorade wrote..
See.
I think this is a good thing, it's going to be real single player now, not just dust with bots.Acit0gyM wrote..
Ritual - a small unheard-of company? Fool.

Ritual have been around for ages. Longer than Valve, definetely. They even released a mission pack for Quake, and that was years ago before Valve was formed. They have some of the most famous and talented designers in the business - like Levelord (who's been around since time began) and weasl. They have a massive team. They have created several games, pretty much from scratch (except perhaps an engine license) and had good success. Ok, nothing as resounding as Half-Life, but excellent non-the-less.
And they made Sin. Great game, but trounced simply due to the fact that it was released the same time as Half-Life - which everyone started going crazy about. (Ok, there was that minor issue with all those bugs, but they were patched eventually).
Bottom-line: Ritual are a highly skilled company that have been around longer than Valve and Gearbox. They know what they're doing.Comment

For Doom3 you will need a hardware upgrade to run it because FPS will be extremely low on old machines.

Unreal 2 is the same engine (more or less) as UT2003, maybe with a few more enhancements.Comment

You can download SP mods for HL that are decent. I'd recommend "They Hunger" or "Azure Sheep" as some of the better ones. Azure sheep has a few new weapons, but a similar theme as blue shift. They Hunger was based off a living dead theme, with zombies instead of headcrab guys, and a pretty decent storyline (all things considered).Acit0gyM wrote...
I have to admit, I'm curious why you put "Myg0t" in your name and tried to conceal it. I probably don't really care to know, though.
Shadows. Never enabled them back when you could, and now I kind of regret never trying it out to see what it was like. I remember having to mess with Tribes to get shadows enabled way back there...
It's kind of pathetic how many people got upset over things like cameras and diving animations. When it comes down to it, your average reader just isn't very smart unfortunately. Logical interpretation that some of us are blessed with simply doesn't happen in their minds.
They imagine playing normal CS with a "camera" weapon and getting to be able to dive off things. Then they hear "Steam" and forget about all the material posted on how it's not going to make anything worse, even for people with modems. Then to top it all off, they think of VALVe and don't realize that there's a lot of people at work there doing things that we don't know about, so they complain that games are never coming out.
Ahh, the joys of trudging through CSN comments... :)
