h3ntai: 3D has nothing to be seeded for. They are a new clan when you think about it. The only thing they have going is their CAL-i record and a couple of small LANs. ND was at the last CPL while the ``clan'' 3D wasn't. Although X3 may be the predecessor of 3D, they're not the same ``clan''. 3D loses all of X3's credit's once they died.

It is a surprise that ND is now ranked 1st, seeing as they weren't even registered until after(?) the deadline was up. There was more on DoG.

[edit]: The NYTimes article is not worth giving out my email addy for.

If they looked at skill they would probably pick another European clan considering X3 lost last year. I want 3D to win but there are 3 other very good European clans with just as much chance of winning. Oh yeah, I know nothing.

Actually Sinac, I don't think Nordic went to the last CPL event. Although they have played in many major LANs in europe.

Yes, your wrong, because they won the last CPL event.

Also, didn't mTw come to the Winter CPL unaccounced? Then took 3rd? I read that they just showed up and jumped in the tourney.

                Oh yeah, mTw will win.

I heard they placed 6th at some CPL or another. Of course, it could be the fact they won the CPL Europe tounries? I don't really know, I haven't followed euro clans much. Maybe 6th was SK. I dunno!@#@$

Did you guys read that NYtimes.com article about the CPL? The reporter obviously has no clue what the CPL is all about.

                      Here are my favorite quotes:

"Thousands of hard-core gamers will converge on the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dallas on Saturday to match their rec-room joystick skills with those of like-minded fanatics."

"The league holds events all over the world, organizing multimedia spectacles in which computer gamers can listen to rock bands, check out the latest in gamer gear, hone their skills in workshops and lug their souped-up laptops into B.Y.O.C. (bring your own computer) areas."

He thinks professional gamers use laptops and joysticks? *pfft* What a newb!!

                          CPL News

The CPL has posted a bit more news on whats going to be happening, and what has happened at the CPL.

For their upcoming Dallas event - The CPL 4 Year anniversary event, they have increased the admission fee to $40, and have also announced that no free spectator passes will be handed out on the day.

There is also an interview with Mike Wardell regarding where CPL is headed in the future, and it also covers why CPL shifted it's major event from Quake III to Counter-Strike.

Mike: Without going in to any detail on what we have thrown around as "the ideal game" I will say that right now we are focused on bringing Counter-Strike as far as it can go. Valve's multicast software will be working in full force at the World Championship Event, which means spectators from around the world can watch matches non-stop all weekend. Combine this with replays, commentary, advertising breaks, and other sport-like elements in the future, and I think you have the next big thing.
                          You can read it here

                            CPL News

TheCpl have posted news of the updated world championship rules.
The CPL released today an updated version of Rules and Regulations for the upcoming CPL World Championship. This event will host the world's largest cash prize ($150,000) for a single computer-game tournament, and will take place in December 2001 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.
That's a hell of a prize. What are you waiting for? Go and win, my counter-strike minions!!

Also, the CplEurope site announced that the Austrian CPL Europe qualifying event will go ahead.
The CPL Europe would hereby like to announce that G-Zone will be holding the official Austrian Counter-Strike CPL Berlin Qualifying Event on August 25th in Vienna. The winning team will win a trip to the CPL Berlin, set to take place from August 31st through September 2nd, 2001, right in the middle of the International Congress Center Berlin, next to the IFA 2001.

                              CPL News

Ninjas in Pyjamas has won the CPL Berlin event!! Great job guys! They won on de_dust versus Spirit of Amiga (good job, too) getting a score of 4-3. I think it proves that you lovable Euros play the game a tad slower and more strategy oriented. Update: It was pointed out to me that lovable Euros just play by stupid rules, thanks to all who corrected me. It's true, Europeans suck just as much as everyone else.

In other CPL news WasteLAN will be holding the CPL qualifiers this coming weekend. Check out the site for more info.

                                CPL News

Logitech is again giving away 50 free spectator passes to the CPL CS World Championship coming early next month. After selecting the appropriate age range, click on "Continue Step 1" and scroll down to choice number 6 [red] "I want to register as a spectator." Continue the registration, making sure all information provided is correct and verifiable. This process will skip the final payment step, as Logitech is sponsoring all spectator passes (read: you don't have to pay for shiznit!).

Those crazy makers of BAWLS and the CPL have announced that every registrant bringing a computer to the BYOC (bring your own comptuer) section of the upcoming CPL World Championship will receive a special case (12-pack) of BAWLS Guarana. BAWLS Guarana (a four year sponsor of the CPL) is the special fuel that takes CPL players through the multi-day gaming events. It's like Pepsi for the athiest gamer population that needs to stay up for days on end.

So, who among us is looking forward to the actual event getting here? I'm anxious to see if the limey Euros (yes, that which is limey is that which has spread) will beat the fat Americans and all those other crazy countries in attendence. That's all I hear anyway, Americans don't stand a chance. We'll see, but it's sure to be quite the pissing contest until gameday.
