Health-packs? Come on that's fucking pathetic. Counter-Strike never had any damn health packs in it, you had to keep on your toes ready to kill, and if you fucked up that was it, bye bye you're dead (for 3 minutes). Health packs...stupid, fucking stupid. This game isn't single player counter-strike, it's some other game with counter-strike in the name. Too bad it's not April 1st so I could pass this off as a big joke by Valve. I'll still buy it though; I'm a sucker like that.

Blue Shift was designed to be a Dreamcast game, which is why it was so short; it was supposed to be squeezed onto the same CD as Half-Life. The Dreamcast version fell through, but they went ahead and ported it to PC without making it any longer.
I hope they have enough SP missions to last me through a week. I finished Blue Shift in around 3 hours.
As for the health packs, well they're a mainstay of single-player FPS games. We can only pray that they're handled in a way that will at least sort of make sense in the context of the game. Bandages, maybe? Field rations? Who knows?Comment

CS isn't just another bland watered out FPS with half assed mission briefings (zeh germans have stolen blueprints to build a nuke, u alone must take this pistol and go get zem!) and boring linear play. I guess ritual disagrees. I would have liked to get my hands on the gearbox version.Comment

Return to Castle Wolfenstein, in my opinion, sucked as a game. It was beautiful, and I was delighted when I first started playing it. However, it got really, really old really fast. Yay, I'm blowing away zombies, and I have to make them explode... just like in Quake I. Yay, now the enemies shoot out electricity... load me up with another healthpack and I'm ready to go! Yeah, it just wasn't much fun (I finally gave up and didn't finish it, because I simply wasn't having fun anymore).

As far as the SP element of CS:CZ, well, I'm having mixed feelings. I was imagining some sort of related, connected storyline, where missions would be very related on a small scale, and somewhat on the grand scheme of things. You know... you may be working with the Spetznaz for a few missions, helping them out because of your expertice in blahwhatever, then move on to working with the SAS... but still have things somehow tied together into a unified theme, perhaps with a single terrorist organization behind most of the smaller groups that you're having to deal with.
Cohesiveness is an important factor in making a SP experience "rewarding" to the person playing it. Small victories are good and dandy, but without connecting things together into a grand picture, the game just sort of... ends... without any real sense of accomplishment.
Yes, there are certain games where health packs are acceptable, but for a CS experience, the only acceptable option, in my mind, would be additional flak jackets and better all-around protection by them, but even that would sometimes be stretching it.
Simply put, in the amount of time that Ritual is planning on finishing up CS:CZ in, they aren't going to be able to make this game what it could have been. Let's all sit around and ponder what things could have been, but never will be, eh?
