Any cal players could be cheating, for example, Joe from the clan Super united squadron of destruction from Cal-O decided he wanted to try a aimbot, he say's he is in cal, you check... ok he is so he not cheating because hes in the cal list of wonids.. ? Hmmm useless

Nothing's better than looking in first person mode... because any long time player know how to see if someone is cheating or if someone has skillz.

just my little 2 cents in the conversation.

uhm.. did you even stop to think that maybe they wanted to be seen as 1337 by telling people they are in CAL even though they not.. regardless just because someones good and not in CAL doesnt make them a cheater. and even then they possibly still could be cheating, the inverse of that is also true, just because someone is good and in CAL doesnt mean they DONT cheat..
Ya, that's true. But if they are really good they tend to say that they are in CAL-M or in CAL-i. If you dont' find them on either (or in CAL-O or CAL-im, you know that they are lying. And if they are lying they are prolly cheating). Good point about people in CAL cheating though, I'm sure there is a lot that cheat. Just kind of unavoidable I guess.

Oh no, anything but people seeing "Justin Batts" on their screen! Say it isn't so! Of course, they could just hold their mouse over your name and look at your email address, too. If you're an upstanding player, though, you shouldn't have any reason to fear being identified.

In which case they're dirty damn liars, and I'm perfectly fine with banning dishonest scumbags like that any day. >:) So it's pretty much a win-win situation for the admin no matter how they respond. Obviously it shouldn't be used to claim that someone is cheating simply because they're not in the CAL, though.

nighthawk how come you didn't tell us what happens if more than 1 person is on with the same cdkey like if...
Because it's completely off topic. If you are that fascinated by the subject, feel free to email me, but I don't know how much detail I'd feel like giving you, as you seem like the type of individual that would exploit any knowledge you gain. Nothing personal.
... I just thought that was relevent to ways that people that don't buy the game can get working online cd keys, besides the more obvious scamming and stuff.
The how-to's (that I removed) of illegal activities are not welcome here on CSN, even for the sake of discussion. Post any more ideas on how to cheat game developers out of the money they deserve, and you'll be banned promptly.

Feel free to do, write, or create something cool or exciting for the community. Our hard working newsies would be glad to post about it here on CSN. If you're not actively contributing to the community, however, you've got precious little room to bitch about it being slow or uninteresting at the moment.

                nighthawks comment really hurt my feelings -_-;;

the only reason i know that you can do that is because i happen to be on of the few people that read endusers and i know it works because a friend of mine bought a shitty game and i told him to say that to return it.

Why doesn't WON just make a Searchable DB or ask some company like yahoo to do it and tell them it will make them lots of money on popup ads?

WON stores nothing of value about you, not even the current alias you may use. Only a CD-key+WONID combo is really important. So, WON really couldn't create any sort of useful database, even if they wanted to.

However, CAL can require players to enter a name and designated main alias, so they do have a small amount of relevant information, even if it's only enough to identify you as a specific CAL player.

Who's "ruzzuh"? However, rizzuh's WONID is really low, actually matching the waist measurement of his pants. I won't tell you what it is exactly, but from what I've given you, you already know it's at least triple-digit.

i'd like to point out that one-way encryption exists... and encryption is simply an algorithm applied to something (basically). so your cdkey gets put through a one-way process that results in your wonid.

compareable to md5 (as far as one-way goes).

UncleFu should take someone's (many individual someone's) advice and try READING.

Have all the fun you want with blacklists. Don't ever think of trying to force them upon people. As long as participation is and stays voluntary, forever, I'm fine with it. Administration of the list will always be a problem, mostly because the world is full of stupid people.

My WONID is 416697. I bought the game in early 1999, so clearly the order isn't in order.

To put it more precisely, the entire WONID system was changed a few versions back and I think VALVe deleted all old WONIDs and started from scratch. I can't be for sure, but my WONID seems to indicate that they weren't given in a strictly incrementing order.

This change meant that east.won and west.won connections had the same WONID's, btw. Meh.

What's with the new picture of the quotation marks and the black dotted line next to the quotes? It's pretty ugly.

The whole WON ID and CD key conversation lost my interest a long time ago. I'm so superior in every way.

I want to check for cheaters.
If I wrote something in response to it, there's a 99.999% chance that I read the story. In fact, I read it twice; it was posted on gotfrag earlier, iirc.

Mmm, I love qualifiers. Come out hard and say it: "I LIKE BLACKLISTS!" I imagine you spend a lot of time getting killed by cheaters and it drives you to tears. I can't imagine why you get frustrated, as is pointed out to me by any given admin in any given pub, there are thousands and thousands of Counter-Strike servers. If you're so pissed off at someone in ONE of them that you feel he needs to be removed from the pool of players everywhere on the planet, I genuinely feel sorry for you. I too feel that there are many, many players who should be blacklisted. Problem is that most of them don't cheat. They're just too fucking stupid to own computers, let alone game on them.

I already handled this a long time ago. Serious Sam didn't understand me, though, so I think a bunch more people cried a bit and wanted to hit you.

Finally, kaxman, in a sense the VAC implements a universal blacklist, but it's a much less subjective one than the blacklist.de version is, as rogue server admins can't add people they don't like to the VAC blacklist. Downside is that, in the effort to not have any false-positives, they end up not detecting many cheaters either.
Yes. I don't have much of a problem with the VAC list for that reason. That and the fact that you can always run an unsecured server that will still report to master servers as normal, still appear in server lists as normal, and just generally not be affected at all, except for not getting to download the latest security module.

As to whether you can exempt your server from the VAC list and still run it secured, I don't know.

Ah, wonderful, the site apparently died while I was typing furiously and smashing my head into the brick wall I keep handy for times just like this. I'll resume bashing, this time from a standing position so I can hit it just a little bit harder, and spare you more of my inane preaching.

I'll try to keep this in mind in the future. I'll also waste less time that way.
