did you acutally read that newspost? it talks about the addition of those checkboxes in the comments so you can quote multiple people, not the huge quotes that appear now! I just started seeing those huge quotes today (10/28) and unless i have extremely bad eyesight then i don't think those huge quotes are over three months old. Rze when did you add those new quotes anyways? i don't especially like them, they're just too damn big.

Heres the part of the newspost that talks about quotes:
In case you missed it, a little box was added to right of the comment number. Click the box to "mark" the comment. Scroll down to the bottom of the page: above the comment box you'll see a marked comments dropdown box. You can select quote and it'll automatically "quote" all of the selected comments.

I liked CS-Guard for when it displayed

            "Cheat Detected on <PlayerName> ..\..\..\ogc.exe"

Then we'd all get 5 seconds to type "lol", "bye bye you cheating f***", before the Player was kicked. Oh don't forget the ocassional "What does that mean?" by the detected cheating Player.

            Ah good old CSG

No I don't think that's true, I think most people didn't get CD because they didn't like having to go out and download it and run it every time before they run cstrike.
That could be true for those who didn't use ASE.
Also, I think it WAS worth downloading CD, and I think many will agree with me there. There were never any false positives with CD because it was prevention, not detection. It never banned or kicked anyone. Also, whenever I played on a server with CD, I felt pretty secure. OGC may have gotten past CD a few times, but a day later CD always updated past OGC.
Yes, C-D was the best and least obtrusive of the lot. Before that though, the selection wasn't that impressive.
I don't get that, if they didn't think it was worth downloading an update for CD every week or so, why did they whine about cheating??
Because it STILL didn't matter if you DLed it or not since the majority of servers were in C-D Optional mode, which made the prog fairly useless.

It sure was glamorous, but it didn't do jack shit against hardcore cheaters. Or even mediocre ones. Hell I think you could safely play off your floppy drive.

I remember the first OGC anti cheat ever, it was called "TSG" or something, and sucked butt. But for one day, and only one day, it was a grand day in counter-strike. No OGCers in sight.

Is there really a need for ANY third party AC tools now VAC is in place?

I would say no, but VAC seems to be a bit sluggish at the moment with many new cheats popping up. I just ran into a cheater today on some pub server. My guess (hope) is that they are going to really turn on the anti cheat heat for 1.6 and Steam 2.0

                              In my opinion, yes.

VAC, while great (well, awesome), hasn't been updated very recently (to my knowledge, anyways). If you're like I am, you constantly go to cheat sites (not just OGC), and see what type of new cheats are out (not to use them, but to be aware, obviously).

There are currently alot of aimbots/opengl hacks out that bypass VAC. While none of them to my knowledge have the features like OGC hacks, they are still very harmful.

I can only dream of Valve working with UA or something... just to make a better game of CS.

But, I am really skeptical of anti-cheats other than Valve. The reason for this, is because of the Server Admins, and the anti-cheat bugs.

To start with bugs... I think it was CSGuard that had a very annoying one, called bullet lag. It may have been hard to notice for some normal players, but hardcore players like myself and my friends didn't like this, but we had to live with it because at that time CSGuard was like the only thing that detected cheats at that time.

Well, after I think it was cs 1.4 that came out, csguard changed to hlguard (i think) and then certain things changed. I believe it was after HLGuard 1.02 (or something) that this "bullet lag" was apparrently fixed, and it seems that way. But who knows what other kind of bugs these anti cheats have? they might possibly be affecting everyone's game for the worst.

Now onto server admins... Most server admins rarely updated their anti cheats. You'd go into a server and see CSguard running, when something like HLGuard 1.20 was released. This would irritate me as I'd usually have to go find a new server to play on. This is why part of me doesnt like anti cheats made by a third party. Alot of server admins arent responsible enough to update their own server.

                              bleh... damn my A.D.D.

Wasn't OGC those colored models thingys (red blocks for Ts, green blocks for CTs) during the first days of cheating? If it was, the first ant-ogc has to be the color tag: a blig block of green and red. when you see someone staring at it forever, that's someone that's getting kicked :) (which of course, didn"t know r_decals 0)

it also did that on someone staring on a dead body :/

if that made sense to anyone, tell me.
