Cheating-Death was 100% cheat proof. A couple verions of OGC bypassed the validation system to play on CD servers without the client, but that was quickly fixed. I think CD was the best anti cheat for a while, but then it too was blocked by VAC.
It wasn't blocked by VAC. They just decided to stop making it so it could work on VAC servers. From what I read.

That was CSGuard that was blocked by a HL update, wasn't CD blocked by VAC because it hooks the dll in the same manner cheats do?

haha, my news submission was posted.

Hopefully they'll get it to cooperate with VAC.

"It's amazing to see how two, once competing projects (Cheating-Death and CSGuard) can eventually come together and provide a more complete anti-cheat solution."

Why didn't they work together in the first place?? Imho, that's pure stupidity.

Differing philosophies originally kept them apart. CSGuard relied on cheat detection (via filename/cvar checking), while Cheating-Death believed in keeping cheats from working effectively (ie: wallhack block).

Maybe a new CSGuard will block cheats and render others useless?

It wasn't that VAC blocked CSGuard or C-D, it was that Valve recommended that you shouldn't run client-side programs with VAC.

                  More people = more money.

Also, if they are employed by valve, that means it will take years for each version to come out.

I HATED When CD was Optional.

It was completely pointless, and everyone playing had the ugly [****] in their name.

CD servers should have always had it mandatory.

And Bah to stupid admins on some pub servers who a year after punkbuster has stoped being developed go 'Hey, let's get Punkbuster'

                    When everyone is using CD.

Half the problem was Admins who didn't stay with the times.

What is the point? What can HLG now do that VAC cannot? asside from cvar checking there is no reason to run HLG on a CS server.

Ill stick with an anti cheat that works and doesnt require me to work to keep up to date. Ill stick with an anti cheat that automatically updates itself for me. Ill stick with the only anti cheat to effectively kill cs WH's.

                      Go VAC!!!

I don't understand how this is even news. I think CS is past any sort of real cheating problem.

Yes, you are right. On July 27th rizzuh updated us (http://csnation.counter-strike.net/comments.php?id=4870) on the addition, so it has in fact been well over three months. Good catch.

People usually didn't have a problem with downloading an anti-cheat client; they had a problem with everyone and their fucking brother making a new one, thus requiring them to download several if they wanted to have a decent selection of servers..
No I don't think that's true, I think most people didn't get CD because they didn't like having to go out and download it and run it every time before they run cstrike.

Also, I think it WAS worth downloading CD, and I think many will agree with me there. There were never any false positives with CD because it was prevention, not detection. It never banned or kicked anyone. Also, whenever I played on a server with CD, I felt pretty secure. OGC may have gotten past CD a few times, but a day later CD always updated past OGC.

I don't get that, if they didn't think it was worth downloading an update for CD every week or so, why did they whine about cheating?? For some reason, the cheaters would download the updates for their cheats more than the anticheaters would download the updates for their anticheats. People whined all the time about cheating, but they themselves were too lazy to download and run those updates.
