LOL, you hate them because they use a superior setup? I used to go with the arrow-keys too, and I couldn't understand why people would use WASD. Then I discovered: They are so much better!

The keys are not staggered, and I need them all (almost).

    1,2,3,4,5,Q,W,E,R,T,Y,U,A,S,D,F,G,H,SHIFT,Z,X,C
,V,B,CTRL,SPACE and all the F-keys. And I have no troubles finding them.

That list did one thing right at least:

It included X-Com in the top ten.

        asspennies:

WASD is only close to all those buttons because you didn't remap them...

i'll assume the gun "pots" are 1,2,3,4,5... You can access them from mouse (which is a much better idea, because you're not gonna be firing while switching weaps, but oyu will be running around, so better to use the free hand (mouse hand) to switch)...

"Consider typing, such as when you're talking to your teammates"

Excuse me, but when did TALKING require typing? I talk with my mouth to my mic... That requires no typing... Voice comm saves you more milliseconds than "easy to reach typing" ever will...

No, I'm not left-handed... My keyboard is turned (yaw) to the right about 20 degrees, my mouse is facing forward, and my monitor is about 40 degrees to my right (more compact, my table isn't as long front-back)... My mouse pad is beside my keyboard, and so i have about 1 foot between by arrow keys and my mouse position...

Awww... at least we have something in common... we all hate each other...

        bad mongo:

No, WASD is a less superior setup... If your keyboard doesn't have staggered keys... Then what kind of keyboard are you using? Every standard US keyboard is staggered (don't wanna say ALL... but probably everyone who uses a PC has a staggered keyboard... maybe you have a strange new/old type of keyboard)...

Keys I can easily use during gameplay: =, \, BACKSPACE, [, ], ;, ', /, ENTER, RSHIFT, RCTRL, Insert, Delete, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, NumInsert, NumDelete, NumEnd, NumDown, NumPgDn, NumEnter, NumLeft, Num5

Keys I can use for purchasing: All numpad keys...

This setup allows me to jump/duck/swim with the keys above arrows (the 6 keys above it)... I can use, walk, reload, voice talk, flashlight, NVG with the keys left of arrows... And I can also buy a deagle, HE nade, and fresh kevlar/helmet with keypad when I run past the buy zone in iceworld...

A lot of keys and all sorted into groups too...

GoldenEye 007 was THE best console multiplayer ever!!!

Especially Prox. Mines in the Lab level (2nd one in single player)

Truly the N64's best (and only good) hour!!

I use WASD controls, but then again, last time I checked, only scroll lock, num lock, and my special windows keys aren't bound. Everything else on my keyboard does something on its own. Scripting is fun, ya know.

Only control scheme I would consider switching to is ESDF (shifted one right of WASD) because it gives you more options to the left of your main controls. Tribes 2 had that by default, but I just kept on accidentlaly putting my hand back in WASD out of habit (not to mention bumping the windows key often), so I remapped them all. Still, it was a decent idea.

Half-Life is definately the most influential FPS known to date ( not counting the games that began the genre )... two big hints...

                    1. It's still played today and is one of the most widely played games ever.

                    2. Even after 5+ years it has the largest mod/skin/model/multiplayer/ etc. community of any game EVER... Half-Life's modified Quake engine brought modmaking to a whole new level... one that Quake's original community could not and cannot ever match.

We can only hope that Half-Life 2 will revolutionize FPS gaming ( not just the game in general but the entire experience ) as much as Half-Life has done up until today.
