i deleted only gen_hlamp.dll, is that all that is required?
Yes, as long as the DLL is deleted and you have restarted Winamp, you won't be detected.

Disk2, is it possible for you to fix it in anyway so its not detected as a cheat?

or can we just make another mod CSHLAMP ?

That would just mean people could use HLamp for a couple more months until Valve updates the VAC to falsely detect HLamp again.

Actually as long as Winamp is not running when you delete the DLL you are fine. So close Winamp and delete the HLamp DLL file.

It's detected because some cheat probably uses a similar method to interact with the game. The VAC is not able to tell the difference so it bans everyone. It's wrong, but it's what we have to deal with.

If that question was directed at me:

You can either blame me or Valve, and since I wrote the program and am the only one of the two blamable parties on CS-Nation most people tend to blame me.

I love you Disk2. I know you never meant to ban people. But think of it this way: The people that play 12 hours a day and are suddenly banned can go out and see there's a world beyond CS! You've done a service !

                            Thanks, Magus

By the way, I just go an email from Eric Smith saying they will revert to the old security modules while they look into the problem. I don't know what that means in terms of bans, but at least the bleeding has stopped.

This is sad. I like to have music play when I'm out pubbing... now I can't because of VAC. It's good that they are fighting cheating and all, but they should fix this stuff before they force it on us. It seems to me that everything released lately causes more problems that it corrects, take STEAM for example.

Sure is a good thing I was bored and decided to read today's news, or I would be paying the price for HLamp later. Getting banned until 2008 seems a little much. I paid for my copy of HL, CS, and had I been banned for years for simply using a music mod, I would have raised all kinds of hell, maybe even sued.

I think these folks need to do a little more homework before they go changing the way things work. Maybe, I know this may shock some of them, but just maybe Valve and whomever else decides to release a major game mod, could stop and think about what they are doing. Being a programmer I can safely say that it would not be a massive undertaking to add a "this wont screw you for having HLamp" function. Had they stopped to look at the people they are saving from cheats they would have realized that they are going to do a lot of harm to a lot of people that also like music, but did not read the latest news...

                                Good news!:
We've had some reports of problems with the latest VAC security modules and other third-party applications. We're reverting the security modules while we look into the problems.
