    VAC/HLAmp Update

Update: This module is being recalled. At this point I still recommend uninstalling HLAmp, then reinstalling it once we verify that future modules will not ban the add-on.

IMPORTANT: HLAmp is now detected as a cheat by VAC. "Close Winamp and delete the HLamp DLL and scripts, and you should be all set." I feel very sorry for Disk2 at this moment, but I'll be even more sorry for you if you're banned until 2008 because of HLAmp and VAC.

VALVe's Anti-Cheat has been updated once again with a new module for those running servers out there. The module, which is downloaded automatically, contains "several new cheat detections." The problems with Linux's WineX have not yet been fixed, but VALVe is working with Transgaming to fix the issue.

Sorry about this, guys--flame me all you want. The same thing happened with HLirc, and everyone was very nice about it. That was of course when VALVe's bans were only for 24 hours though.

I contacted Eric Smith to see if the bans can be found and removed if possible. I'll let you know what he says.

              Again, sorry about this...

This has to be the best part of the news post though.

Delete gen_HLamp.dll from your Winamp plugins directory (Winamp 2.x) or C:\HLamp (Winamp 3.x)

Quite why VAC will pick up HLamp as a cheat is not clear.....

I'm all for anti-cheat (even though I can't run CS cos it keeps turning my monitor off - any solutions welcome!!) but isn't it a little extreme???

Or perhaps there is an exploit in HLamp...........
