evil_sheep Said: Holy lemming. The whole western world could drop their living standard 25%, how's that for "better"? If you think any country is doing their absolute max concerning 3rd world aid, I would suggest you free your mind a bit and take a look at humans and the ideals and instincts that drive them - selfishness and greed, has a good grip on the stearing wheel. In you and me.

Why should my standard of living go down so people in other countries with types of Gov and idiological beliefs I do not belive in can have a better life. I think it would be better to say that if you want your standard of living to go up, then model yourself more after America and not be jelous of it.

It is funny though, because I work with the military in Denmark as part of EPAF and have never heard anything but praise for America.

Another thing is shouldn't countries recieving aide from us be grateful and not complain about how much it is?

We have our own social problems, the homeless, un-employment, etc. We give what we can, and that should be enough.

You may also want to take into account the size of various nations and what percentage of their GNP they give for foriegn aide. The more people, the more money it takes to run a great country and keep the majority of it's citezens happy.

America often brags it is the "land of opportunity." Sadly, for many, many other nations in the world, it is most definitely untrue. Countries where they are unable to go to school because of lack of money, or even lack of a school. Countries where you have a very good chance of dying before you are five years old. Countries where the average age of death is 40 years. These people are born, live and die without any opportunity whatsoever to improve their living conditions for them, their family or their people. Meanwhile wealthy first-world nations open up factories where they can make a dollar a day working for ten hours in often despicable conditions.

It is unreasonable to expect America to lower everyone's living standards for 25 percent. While certainly charitable, humane, and generous, it is unreasonable to expect people in America to vote for a government that would support such an act of humanity. However, what is unreasonable is that the US performs so consistently poorly in foreign aid in comparison to other first-world nations. There is no excuse, with the wealthiness of the US, to not contribute more to help the plight of these poor, desperate, starving peoples throughout the world so that they may improve themselves. If this happens, it will be humanity to gain from it because instead of these people just dying as infants, or living their lives trying to scrape out a living, they could become doctors, scientists, engineers, philosophers, teachers etc etc. Imagine if everyone in the world had the same opportunities to succeed as citizens of the US. It is the selfishness and greed of the US especially, as well as other first-world nations, that is holding back the development of the world, our society, and of ourselves and our future descendants.

Instead of looking for the U.S. to bail out countries why don't they do it for themselves?

You are correct, we won't elect a Gov. that would put other nations ahead of our own, and I think most Americans are thankful for that.

Yeah! Why should we do that? It doesn't help us in any way, does it? And they have another type of government! OMG they don't deserve to be happy!!! Yeah! They should use their 50k$ gnp to 'model' themselves after america, and if they can't they are dumb and don't deserve it anyway.

                  Game categories

                  ---------------------

According to notion of the commands of the current law:

                  a. Mechanical games are those, for whose operation it is necessary to use muscle force.

                  b. Electrical games are those, for whose operation it is necessary to be dependent on electrical mechanisms.

                  c. Electromechanical games are those, for whose operation it is necessary to be dependent on electrical

                  mechanisms AND use muscle force.

                  d. Electronical games are those, for whose operation it is necessary to be dependent on electrical

mechanisms that also have some calculating (accounting) program.

                  e. Entertainment "technical" games are those, whose result depends exclusively on the ability and skill of the

player, and its use is solely for entertainment.

only (lol) b, c, and d are banned in greece

maybe it is just me but me thinks that most games that we all play (including cs) are under the e category so all this was for nothin

(i may be wrong but i can read)the law(translated for all who slept though your Greek 101)

[Edit: the law only allows such games (E) as fall in category (A). This means games 1. meant only for entertainment (not for profit) that 2. depend solely on the skill of the user (not on luck ala slots and other betting games) that are 3.mechanical and lacking use of electricity, are allowed. Counterstrike falls under categories C, D, and E. Because C and D are banned, CS is then also banned, regardless of the protection of (E) within (A) games. The games that are protected are games like ping pong and foosball and such.] -Nighthawk

I've held my peace up until this point, but between evil_sheep and Corinthian both, I've heard about enough.

Sure, I'll never convince either one of you that what America has done for the world has been for the best, and has been a blessing on the world overall. But then again, that's exactly the point.

Countries where people are not willing to work as hard, band together as a people, and create a wonderful way of life for all are going to be jealous of the USA, and will continue to despise us for our wealth and generally carefree way of life.

Why is the USA great? Personally, I'm religious, and I believe that not only have we worked hard as a nation and created the best governmental system that has ever been run by man, but I also believe we have been blessed by God. The "history lessons" posted on here have been common history text material. People don't tend to study the migration and dispersion of whole peoples nearly so much.

Why are the USA and Israel so closely linked together? Why is Britain one of our closest allies? We all have common blood, as do a number of European countries along with us. The modern nation of Israel is but a small portion of the ancient peoples of Israel, mostly comprised of the tribe of Judah and a small amount of Levi and Benjamin. The rest of Israel spread out into Europe long ago, and more of us have some Israelite blood in us than realize it.

Anyway, yeah, I believe the USA is blessed by God, and you can flame me and say it's the dumbest thing you've ever heard of, since many of you probably don't believe in God anyway. All I can say on that regard is, we call ourselves "one nation, under God", and our country certainly does appear to be blessed.

If you will take an honest look at modern history, the USA has done more good for the world than any other nation. Period. Canada and Denmark, as much as we may like to visit them, and as much as they may try, really simply cannot compare to what we have done for the world. But there always remains those who complain and tell us that we need to give more.

It's ironic that the people telling us we should be giving them more are the same ones saying that we are greedy. We work hard for our money, and they tell us it's "not fair" that we don't give them more of it? Fair means we keep all of our money, and spend it on our own people, giving them back what they invested. However, we are generous enough to share with other nations.

Do we have vested interests? Yes. Saying it's wrong to protect your interests is like saying that it's wrong for a company to try to make money. The USA must always look out for herself first, to make sure that she is well enough to then take care of others.

We have a long history of dumping money into problems, hoping to see the countries we give help to then pick themselves out of the mire and start standing on their own two feet. It's like having to be the parents of half the world, encouraging young children to take their first steps. And sometimes it has worked, such as in the case of Europe, where we helped many countries pick themselves back up, and they have continued to do well.

However, some of the world refuses to "grow up" and support themselves. They complain about starvation while maintaining their insane birth rates and not instituting birth control. I won't say that every person in such countries is too lazy or stupid to accomplish anything, but unfortunately many of them are.

The problem is, it won't matter how much money we give them. They're always going to be begging for more, like the kid who never moves out of his parents' house. And like that kid, they're resentful to the parents when they don't give them as big of an "allowance" as they think they deserve, even though they're not accomplishing anything.

You can go on about how we're not giving enough % of our GDP to these ungrateful countries, but it doesn't change how the world is. We continue to give more than they deserve, simply because we care. Giving more won't help our image. It will never be enough until these people are better off than we are. Then perhaps their jealousy will die. But they're not willing to build their success the "American way", but rather just seek handouts.

Wealth and equality for those who keep their pride and refuse to emulate the system that actually works? That day will never come. And don't think that countries with relatively insignificant impact on the world can tell the USA what to do. We've worked hard for our power, and now we have it to use, to create a better world as -we- see it. Simply put, your dicks aren't big enough to get into a pissing contest with us.

World peace comes through the fear of American military might on those who would try to disrupt the world. Like the policeman, we sometimes have to come down hard on a few to ensure the safety of the rest. And no, the criminals never ask to be policed, but it must happen regardless. So watch us with fear, like you watch the cop sitting at the corner, and know that as much as you despise us, and question what we do, we're all that's keeping you safe and secure.

And to those countries who have been supportive of America throughout our history, do not think we are ungrateful. When really bad times come, we're always there for you, and always will be.

                    God bless America.

Justification by God (religion) - Yeah, that's great mac. Good thing your own constitution protects the US from people like you. Besides, I don't know if you've actually read the bible, since I fear ol' jesus would probably shed a tear if he saw how live out your vision of being 'chosen'.

As far as I remember Jesus talks a lot about love, unselfishness, charity, giving up wealth, turning the other cheek, etc.

You really let these qualities shine through, ye pure of heart... What the hell is the matter with you?

You dismiss historical facts and begin ranting about migration? What? Hard hitting arguments indeed.
If you will take an honest look at modern history, the USA has done more good for the world than any other nation. Period. Jesus, you are simple. You think the only thing you can export is money? How about knowhow, ideas, knowledge? I believe we have done much more than the US in that area... but I sure can understand how annoying it is that people point out the glaring diffence between wealth and aid. Apparantly tough on you.

You ignorance of the situation of millions of people is certainly stunning, but not that rare unfortunately. The same can be said about your denial.

With that said, I love most of what's America is about. My girlfriend is from cali. I certainly love her :-)

It's pathetic bigots like you, that seem to think they can speak on the behalf of a nation, that's really precious.

Hahahah ;D You know that little cramp you get in your stomach when you laugh really hard? I just got it

You're a funny guy, mr :/NightHawk:-:, and if you took the time to think you might notice that I am not flaming, and I did not flame, the US or it's people. I merely discussed politics in a mature fashion and the proceeded to call -Aragorn^_//Z a dirty, fat, no good liar who is into gay furrysex.

And I'm doing the same here. In my experience, my American friends are somewhat more open and free minded than you, so I must assume you are the problem and not generalize to rest of the populace.

... but it is somewhat scary how many like you think you are chosen by God and then proceed to act directly against his written teachings.

I do not believe in God by the way. But I do recognize a lot of wisdom in the bible, especially in the new testament. Like in the Koran and Talmud, they all contain many good things, but somehow the negative exponents of these teachings always seem to overshadow the positive ones.

Perhaps humanity is not ready for religion yet :-)

Like I said... those of you who wish to bash on our practices will continue to believe what you want, regardless of anything said.

All I was saying with my thought of being "blessed by God" is that we were given a wonderful land that helps us be even more productive than many other countries ever could be. Combined with the capitolistic system, it leads to a lot of wealth. Many places in Europe have very good land as well, which is a blessing to them.

As far as acting against the teachings of the Bible... we continue to give charity. I hate to break it to you, but even the Bible says to look after those within your own house (family and neighbors) before you look after those of the other nations. We do both, and in that order.

I'm not saying all of what this country does is Biblically-motivated, but it certainly complies with the principles taught as far as kindness to others. I still fail to see how I'm qualified as a "bigot," as this implies inherent prejudice. I'm not prejudice against other countries, and in fact wish to see them treated as equals. You can't treat countries as equals while they're begging you for money. They have to act as equals, and share equal responsibilities, before they can be true equals.
Jesus, you are simple. You think the only thing you can export is money? How about knowhow, ideas, knowledge? I believe we have done much more than the US in that area...
We certainly don't just export money, though money certainly is what others come to us asking for. We export various aid, be it food or medical relief, but what we give is essentially wealth, whether we have already used the currency to buy them what they need or not.

However, the USA has been extremely active in "exporting" ideas and knowledge. America's promotion of the ideals of democracy and freedom has been bashed on, and yet you claim you want us to be spreading ideas? We have provided many countries with both the money and the knowledge of how to create functioning governments. Some have used that effectively (eg Germany), and others have remained in their pathetic condition.

Meanwhile, Denmark has contributed massively to world aid by... um, by... uhhhh... Yeah, you're not as affluent a nation, nor as big as the USA, so we don't expect that you'd be giving as much aid to others. However, the impact of Denmark on the world has been quite small, much like any other small individual country. It's not to bash on your country, it's just you can only do so much with so little.

Yeah, it's sad that much of the world lives in poverty. Don't think we don't see it and feel for those people. But the US isn't responsible, and no matter how much we try to help, nothing will be accomplished in the long run until they change their fundamental view on how things should be run. Hell, we haven't given Afghanistan all that much ecconomic aid, yet they're already doing a lot better off, because they have been willing to change.

We'll still continue to send foreign aid, even to nations that will simply waste it and never pull themselves up. We send it because we care. But we're also not stupid enough to destroy our own country while striving for the hopeless goal of taking care of every other nation that asks. When there's a real need, we've always been there to help, and always will be, that's how it works.

And the world has continued to deny the good we've done them. But that's okay. We're not a country to let our pride get in the way of helping others, so we will continue to help as we see fit, even when there is no thankfulness. It's kind of frustrating to see how ungrateful people can be, though.

By the way, please note that throughout all of my comments, I have not called names or personally attacked those expressing views contrary to my own. Your views are as valid as my own, no more so or less so. In the future, Corinthian, I think it's fair to expect that same level of respect from yourself. Thanks.

Brutus/Nighhawk, if you read what the argument was about you would find that it was the wealth/%gnp aid thing, which is an old argument. I never said the US did not do anything positive and nowhere did I say I hate the US or her people. I understand your desire to put words into my mouth, though. Very common thing.

And yes, Nighthawk, what needs changing in much of the world is the attitude towards modern social structures, like democracy and capitalism.

If you don't know what Denmark has done, I expect you haven't bothered to check? Since we certainly have done a lot, especially taking our dimunitive size into consideration.

I also believe you're completely wrong when you say the world denies the good you have done. I certainly don't. I'm just pointing out one thing that may be not so consistent or moral about US foreign policy.

As for bible quotes, I can find quotes that state the opposite of what you refer to about helping your own first. The good book can be used to push almost any action you desire - in the same way it is done with for example the Koran and Jihad or supression of women.

I'm not pushing that big of an argument here and I'm not immovable in my opinion as you seem to suggest (that everyone opposed to you is).

I like the fact that you demand that I show respect, when you yourself feel the need to denounce anything non-US.

                            Thanks.
                            You are most welcome :)

Corinthian, I did respond to that. The Gov. may only give a small % of the GNP, which in actual dollars is more then most if not more then every other country giving foriegn aide.

One thing you have to understand is that we have many private charitable orginizations that also collect money from the U.S> populace and gives it to other countries in need. We also have the Peace Corps who go to third world countries and supply them with resources and knowledge on how to help them help themselves by showing them farming and irragation techniques.

Yeah, but I still think is a moral surrender to argue that those who have more should give less of what they have.

As I said, I have an American girlfriend (who lives en Denmark), so I do know quite a bit about American culture and society and I am fully aware of the many great private initiatives in charity. The US has a strong culture in that area. However that is also very nessecary, since the redistribution of wealth in the US is very low and there are many, many relatively poor people in the US due to that social construct.

Every country has nongvmt orgs that organizes aid, btw.
