First Person Shooter on CTV

Bobafett has let us know about an upcoming documentary on Canada's CTV that will feature Counter-Strike. The unimaginatively titled First Person Shooter is sure to be both hilariously bad and maddening at the same time. Here is how it is described on CTV's webpage:

In a CTV documentary entitled "First Person Shooter" airing on Sept. 1, writer and director Robin Benger draws from his personal experience to delve into a disturbing world where game-hooked teens will do just about anything for their fix.

If you think that page is funny there is another CTV webpage about First Person Shooter that has a streaming Windows Media video preview of the show that has some parts that are laugh out loud funny.[break="more info"]The show will contain some footage with Counter-Strike creator Minh Le. It may be the same gooseman interview that aired on CTV earlier this year. An image from Le's player model animations for Counter-Strike 2 which was in that earlier interview can be seen on the CTV's page.



The documentary was made by a father, Robin Benger, who is "panicked" about his son's Counter-Strike habit. Read First Person Shooter's website where Benger's son is quoted as saying, "My Dad has made this dumbass documentary about videogames."

I really hate how people do very little research into these kinds of topics. Sure there might be a couple hundred (of the millions) who have this cs narcotic fix, but the rest of us are ... normal.

I cannot believe that in this modern society that biased 'documentarys' such as this can be broadcasted, from the preview it seems to be a piece of work that can most closely be described as a form of animal waste.



I mean, does the director really believe the stuff he's producing. I must say, it's scary if he does.

The documentary is about as well researched as the report I did about Christmas in Spain when I was in the first grade.

I'm hoping I get to see it in the US, at least for the Minh Le interview and to see how biased the report actually is, if at all.



Many of you are forgetting that this is the look at one kid. Are you to say that it's literally impossible for someone to become addicted to CS?



The violence implications are made by the speakers in the film and not the film itself. The film is focusing on the addiction. Which could even be valid.

God.. Is it just me or does it seem totally overacted when that stupid kid goes "HA HA HA KILL EM ALL" in the background? It's such a conspiracy, they're paying kids to make videogames sound sadistic and evil.

It's not what it's focused on that is the problem, it's what the documentary is going to insinuate about the 'video gaming culture' that could be damaging.

yeah I was surprised to see an advertisement for it while watching CTV the other day... I'm like... crap that's so bias... but whatever



I figured the CS community should know what's going on... cuz heh...



Also... I'm surprised they only seem to be focusing on CS and not other violent games...

Yeah, seems to be no mention of SOF/2 etc., or indeed the good ol' DOOM and Carmeggeddon that always seems to get dredged up.

blue, i was pretty surprised no mention of carmageddon. Sniff.. i love that game. I remember when it came out everyone was like "OMSFDW!! It encourages people to commit bloody acts of vehicular manslaughter!" Shame there was absolutely no truth to that assertion whatso ever

I have a feeling that the show will be pretty biased since the only psychologist listed on the show's website also happens to be the author of Stop Teaching Our Kids To Kill.



I hope its new footage with gooseman, but I doubt it will be. I don't get CTV on my DirecTV, does anybody in the United States have a way to pick it up?

Of course not man... but I can see how they want parents to see what their kids are doing... but I think had they made it more neutral instead of saying bad bad bad... that it would be a little more correct and generally accepted...



Sure there are bad things... but there are bad things for everything that happens...



CS is played by a LOT of people... but I don't see mass shootings in my city or anything... like come on... show both sides of what's going on here

It'd be interesting to see what opinions are formed after watching the program by people who knew nothing about FPS gaming beforehand. Maybe they'll be on the 'net looking for a demo of CS. Perhaps, and more likely, they'll be scouring their children's computers for any signs of 'Counter-Strike', 'Half-Life' and/or 'Quake' and immediately hitting the 'delete' button, fearing that these games will no doubt turn them into rampaging murderous killers from Hell.



Not that I care, I jsut find the whole thing very amusing.
