Well, I watched the streaming video of it, and God help us all if these Canadians overrun us... (thats a little joke) I'm pretty sure from the low production values, and mad sh**ty actors, we as a community shouldn't worry too much aboot (haha) this stirring up anything serious...

I belive this whole idea for a show is merely Robin Benger's hysterical reaction to his son's totally healthy attraction to the first person shooter genre of video games. Mr. Benger is at once cashing in on the mass hysteria of the public in relation to digitalized violence of any sort, and punishing his son for rightfully not obeying his father.

There are absolutely no links between so called "violent" games and violent behavior. In fact, there are no viable studies or experiments to prove the so called "link" between the two. There is no evidence that such a "link" exists.

Since there is no connection between "violent" media and violent behavior, this show is totally off base and asinine. I beg you, Mr. Bergen, not to show this documentary, so as not to make an ass of yourself.

Oh and Rizzuh, I am not basing my opinion on anything other than the video and text clips that they gave us!

And I sincerely hope that everyone else is too.

You notice how they don't talk about the good that CS does? Gives you better reflexs, so maybe when someone DOES try to do what they say, you'll be able to whip out a pistol and shoot them.... Lets us take out our anger without harming anyone... I mean, christ, how stupid can these people be? I mean, I know they're canadian, but CHRIST!!

It doesn't happen to show the facts like how CS has brought people like us together into a community. And even the simplest of things like using radio commands teaches us social skills, does it not?

And I'm back to mock the advertisement for this so-called documentary once more...
The 16-year-old Toronto teen shows all of the telltale signs of addiction and dependency: He spends hours per day feeding his insatiable habit and in the process has become rebellious, short-tempered, emotionally closed off and militant toward his family.
Wait... let me get this straight... he's 16, rebellious, and emotionally closed off toward his family? A teenager being rebellious and emotionally closed off?!? OH MY!!! I've never heard of anything like that happening before, ever! It must be the fault of CS!

The whole article about the documentary was sensationalistic, so much so that it made most propaganda I've read look tame.
But the allure was too strong to ignore so when his home supply ran out, Griffin hit the streets of downtown Toronto looking for a game fix.
Or you could just say that when he lost his computer, he used a different one. Of course, that would sound normal, not like a junkie, so you better use phrases like "home supply ran out" and "hit the streets", along with a "fix" to round things out.
But much like a marijuana user progressing to a harder drug, the ducks eventually wore thin and Griffin sought solace in tougher challenges.
Yes, and like a marijuana user progressing to a harder drug, eventually the challenge of crawling just wasn't enough for this young child, and eventually they found solace in the tougher challenge of walking. Little kids are like addicts in so many ways, you just have to figure out the right comparisons!
That admission -- not from Griffin himself, who like many addicts says he doesn't have a problem...
The producers of the show, like many addicts, claim they don't have alcohol problems. Of course, me saying that doesn't automatically mean that they do, but they seem to make us want to believe otherwise.
Games like Counter-Strike, Grossman says, are the worst of the crop.
Umm, I've actually read Grossman's stuff (interested in the topic), and that's not what he said. His actual statement was that games like this were not good, but ones where you actually physically held a plastic gun in your hands (Area 51, Time Crisis, etc) were the worst, since moving a mouse and supporting and aiming a real gun are two very different skills. I still don't see such games as being horrible, but I will agree they at least do somewhat teach more of the real aiming skills necessary to really shoot, where as the keyboard/mouse combo of CS does not.
The U.S. video game industry is worth about $6 billion US each year in game sales, not including the electronic hardware needed to play them. The game industry proudly estimates that as teens grow into young adults with a pay cheque, the video game industry will grow an astounding 71 per cent in five years to more than $86 billion US.
Let's give a gold star to the math majors that came up with the equation that $6 billion + 71% of $6 billion ($4.26 billion) equals $86 billion (instead of $10.26 billion). But hey, can we really expect the authors to be thinking about the numbers they quote when they haven't been thinking about any of the content in the first place?

As far as bashing the documentary goes, well, most of us I would say have been bashing either a) the sensationalistic, and completely stupid propaganda being presented as the advertisement for the documentary, or b) the many video clips presented, which don't seem to present any more intelligence.

I don't argue that people can theoretically develop an addiction to video games, or computer usage, or any number of other activites, harmless or harmful. And I think doing a documentary about the possibility of addiction to computer games is a great idea. However, I think presenting a one-sided view as a "documentary" is riddiculus, and insults the intelligence of the average citizen. Even if they are Canadians.

Sure, I haven't seen the documentary in full, so I can't say with total confidence that it's totally one-sided. However, judging from all the material surrounding it that we have seen, the likelihood of this being a balanced, unbiased look into the possibility and effects of addiction to computer games is slim to none.

The show will contain some footage with Counter-Strike creator Minh Le. It may be the same gooseman interview that aired on CTV earlier this year. An image from Le's player model animations for Counter-Strike 2 which was in that earlier interview can be seen on the CTV's page.
Actually that was CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), Canada's public broadcaster, that interviewed Mihn Le. CTV is our large private broadcaster, known primarily for re-running Suddenly Susan and their lead news anchor's orange hair.

WHUT! You're not from Canada you fraud! CBC is the gov't network. Both, I admit, are cheap as hell and have a history of disgracing themselves.

Indeed I stand corrected about the gov't network. Though they both rely on huge government grants, they both suck, yeah. The only thing that is good is the CBC News Network, I think it's actually one of the better news networks. I think the program will be very interesting anyway, I still like sensationalism... it's fun.
